I've made a mod that puts the Mhramnaroth in the Mammalian species class: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3206634280

@Lord Rith, I imagine them as coming from a harsh and cold world.
Since ancient times young Mhramnaroth have lived in herds, but older specimens live solitary lives, only coming back to the herd to breed, and to leave their young. In the technological age, older Mhramnaroth can still be found on deep space missions, while the young live on the colonies.

It is thought the Mhramnaroth leave the herd as conflict between elder Mhramnaroth is inevitable. The elders cause trouble, but only they can produce offspring and keep the species alive. It are the young Mhramnaroth that run society and all it's important functions.

It is not true that the strive in their own society will inevitably leed to xenophobia towards other races. Some say it may even make them more open, since they already know how to deal with social tensions. In any case, their history and biology are very different from most races. they should be watched closely.

@pamplemousse: not ironman compatible I'm afraid.

Feel free to give a brief history on this race. Seems pretty cool. Would like to know more.

This looks so good but importantly meshes with the vanilla artstyle really well. Great work
Pamplemousse 28 jul. 2023 às 16:01
I am wondering if it's ironman compatible

Intriguing portrait, though I at first thought it was two Blokkats in a trenchcoat.
Hirohito 17 jun. 2023 às 18:08
lol I saw this and thought it was a rock with a big fur coat covering it.

So your telling me that you randomly make one of the nicest alien portraits ever?
10/10 mod, im excited for what will come next!
Dizzard 29 mai. 2023 às 2:41
Good luck btw! Currently trying to figure out animated portraits as well.
Dizzard 29 mai. 2023 às 2:41
@Moon_Man

I'd recommend joining the official Stellaris discord and there you'll find a link to a Stellaris Modding discord. I've found the wikia is kind of lacking in terms of modding info on portraits. (especially animated) Plus it's easier to get help on modding in the discord vs asking on Reddit.

&Moon_man: Good luck! I'm always looking forward to more portrait mods.

@Bralbaard i'm familiar with blender and maya just not the coding side of things unless its unreal engine 5. This will help me on the right track and i'm hoping the learning curve isnt to bad. Thanks for your reply :leatherneck:

(continued from below)
If however you want to make new models and animations (like was done for the Mhramnaroth, there is a bit of more information on how I did it. Even though the portraits look 2- dimensional, you use 3d moddeling software to animate them. The paradox tutorial uses maya, but that is ridiculously expensive. I’ve used blender [www.blender.org] which is free. You also need the io_pdx_mesh [github.com] plugin by Ros-g to export the 3d meshes and animations to files stellaris can use.

Because it’s different software, the paradox tutorial will be of little help. 3D software, and especially blender can be quite challenging if you have zero experience with them, like I had. There are plenty of tutorials online however. Google is your friend in this.
Bralbaard  [autor] 28 mai. 2023 às 2:27
@Moon_man: As far as I know, there’s only the old tutorial [stellaris.paradoxwikis.com] by the stellaris team. For static portraits that will get you quite far, but the file structure of stellaris changes between versions, so it is best to use another up-to-date portrait mod as reference to see how the code should look.

Animated portraits are far, far more complicated. Many animated portraits mods don’t actually touch the underlying files, but simply repaint the “skin” of the model (these are the .dds files). The model will then use the existing animations for the race you used.

I always wanted to make a portrait mod. Is there a tutorial you followed to make these?
DeaconBlue 27 mai. 2023 às 5:54
Women like to joke that we can never find it... and well, here we are boys, we found it.
xmandan 25 mai. 2023 às 12:46

alikastle 24 mai. 2023 às 14:18
I honestly think this community is lacking on modding their own ideas for species in this game, these look amazing!

@Nhaga: Yes they should spawn randomly.
greensniperhat 21 mai. 2023 às 19:42
Oho, insta-subscribed!
Raijzu 21 mai. 2023 às 15:38
Thank you for the great work.
I do have one question though - are your custom races part of the pool from which the game choses races to populate the galaxy?
In other words, could an AI spawn as the Mucor / Mhramnaroth?
Mr_Daniels 21 mai. 2023 às 14:42
Looks fantastic! Excellent job!
guywithpups 21 mai. 2023 às 12:48
Awesome! Always great to see a new race, I've been a fan of Mucor for a long time
