The WW2 collection since then (around 2020-2021) also includes WW1 weapons without issues, as most were also kept. There's only discrepancies on weapons such as this (or the prototypes, like the Clair pistol and Hellriegel), and as such we think it's better to just keep it WW2.
If you want a lore explanation, in the world of the WW2 collection, the only difference with real life is that some prototypes were either adopted, or survived the scrapping of their "brothers" miraculously. Eventually, the German government would open caches and issue them to the Volkssturm.
