So I put the first cube on the 4 button, and the second cube on the 2 button, and then i'm in a green corridoor with multiple closed doors and nothing else...now what?

This was brilliant! A true Materpiece!! This is exactly the reason why developers included an editor in their game, to let people like you express themselves in a magnificent way!!! :-D Now, to be honest, I didn't find the red chess piece without cheating but I did it in several steps:

checking, first, what colour was each door and button used in the level in normal play to understand how the level worked exactly and, second, because I realised the level was actually so well thought that it was, in fact, extremely linear, checking every door I encountered to see which was a "coloured" one which I didn't notice. But, just before trying that, I had an idea which is basically the solution except with a slightly more elaborate twist: after opening the door #6 on top of the swimming pool, I went all the way down and placed the cube on the button #2 and then went all the way back up to the room with the button #6, thinking the chess piece would be inside the door that is on the top of that room. So, I did think of going all the way back there but not down to the green hallway with the funny door at the end. Silly me...

Bruhhhhhhhh that hidden chess piece is very hidden... Spent like 10 min trying to activate a button which its location shall not be mentioned (goteem if you read this when looking for hints and another like 10 min wondering around the place before I find it at lol I'm not telling you where it is

Nice dream - the wall decorations were enjoyable and the signage was greatly appreciated.

I don't want to spoil it too much, but the chess piece becomes available once you've activated the 6 button. You won't be able to physically touch the piece (it's the lava material after all, not to mention it's blocked off from being reached), only see it.

I am trying to get to the red chess piece, I tried pushing the dice that falls from the ceiling onto the 4 button on the ground but it does not activate the button. Could you please help me?

Well, you are going to need a box past it. See if you can find something out of place.
