Mod does work.
Having any mod that skip story will skip the BYOS option.

And if it still doesn't work, keep eyes on any SAIL mods installed - those can overwrite the dialog at start. Last unchecked resort is placing this mod from workshop folder to main mods folder for it to load first, and maybe, installing FU Sail patch from race page (at the bottom).

It won't say Protogen ship, it'll be the one that says to pick the vanilla ship or something

Sounds nice, but you don't mention whatever "Protogen" is supposed to be.

did some testing, one of the other mods is breaking the nav, and it's literally every single race breaking

but without this mod, there is no byos option at all, even with another mod that claims to support it

when i use the byos option, the nav seat says incompatible mod detected
