Is there a way to exit the interface once you're done making the icon? Pressing F8 just opens it a second time.

To automatic it:

Delete the "thumb" folder located at:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\data\mapicons\thumb

Then open the Command Prompt and paste this:
mklink /J "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\data\mapicons\thumb" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\maps\thumb"

This mod does work:

After taking your photo with f8, go to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\data\mapicons\thumb

Then move the photo to:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\GarrysMod\garrysmod\maps\thumb

Restart Gmod

This mod doesn't fix the grey map icon issue. It still persists even when the folder is correct.

i made sure the screenshot was saved to the thumb folder and it doesnt fix the ugly grey map icons

how do i make data/mapicons/thumb a "symbolic link" to the maps/thumb folder like it says to in the description? i want to make it automatic but i dont know enough about files to know what a symbolic link is or how to make it

garrysmod\maps\thumb. if the folders don't exist, create them. there should only be one maps folder in your garrysmod folder.

Also what exact "maps" folder are the images supposed to go? You don't give the exact path and there are 3 different maps folders in various places.

Nevermind, I found the image but the map icon doesn't show up in the map selection screen.

Я конечно понимаю, что аддону уже пару тысячилетий, но всё-же я надеюсь, что автор увидит мой комментарий. Насколько я понял, скриншоты с карты должны хранится по пути: "garrysmod\data\mapicons\thumb" и заменятся сами в автоматическом режиме уже в игре. Значит ли это, что и те иконки которые до этого были в игре должны быть отображены в той-же папке? И если это так, что делать если этого не происходит? У меня в вышеперечисленном пути есть только те скриншоты, которые я сделал с помощью мода и причем их наличие никак не изменят иконку карты в игре.

because you can't do that from within the game. you don't have access via lua to maps\thumb

This mod works like it needs to, but why all map icons can't be saved in exact folder (maps/thumbs) or at least can not be directed by yourself in whereever you want by some console command?
