In-Depth Guide for Improvement in CS:GO [Chris Smith]
By 3klizt4x-da-k1nG and 1 collaborators
I read Chris Smith's article about critical analysis of gameplay in order to further your skills and decided to publish it on Steam so more people would be able to see it. I do not take any credit for the information used in the guide.

Chapter #1 - Introduction
“Don’t get mad, get better.”
~ Cindy Bristow

This guide have been created by Toni Hirvonen with
the help of Anunnaki - Graphic Designer
Chapter #2 - Learning "How-to-Learn"
If you wanna become a master in your field you should start studying some players that you take a fancy to, those who play with similar game styles that you wish to portray and those who play similar roles to yourself.

When you are watching a demo you need to be constantly engaged and thinking. You can choose to take notes or mentally note things down and always be thinking about things like the following:

  • When do they do their actions?
  • Why are they looking at what they are looking at?
  • Why do they have that weapon or build?
  • When do they choose to go somewhere else?
  • What grenades do they throw and where?
  • What would you personally do in that situation in comparison to that player?

Chapter #3 - HLTV
Demo analyzing is the bread and butter of any trainee-gamer arsenal. What is the better way to learn tips, tricks and strategies than to watch the best battle it out on the largest leagues and tournaments?

I would advise against learning something from a little-scale tournament since most of the time you will end up picking up bad techniques and not-tested strategies.

Chapter #4 - Constructive Criticism
This goes the same for study, real-life sports and your workplace. Constructive criticism is always extremely helpful in your personal development alongside providing some of your own to your peers can help the both of you improve as players.

If you find good players they will more often than not take 20 minutes out of their day to give you some pointers and maybe even play a match or two with you in order to offer advice and improvement avenues.
Chapter #5 - Doing a Mistake
Analyzing your own mistakes is something that you can do even while playing an online match. If you have done a mistake in-game try analyzing the situation and ask yourself a simple question:

  • Why did the mistake happen?

Majority of players like to blame the enemy for their own death. If enemy player pushes in a situation where they shouldn't, enemy might have done the wrong thing, but you should have been prepared for that push.
Chapter #6 - Final Thoughts
Most of these tips can be transferred into any competitive game of today. I urge you to pick and choose what suits you best. You certainly should not take everything i have said and blindly replicate it without thinking.

Games are certainly meant to be fun so please do not take what I have said above as the only way to enjoy your time while gaming. These are just some things you might want to think about when improving your individual skill.
Chapter #7 - Special Thanks
I wanna give special thanks to Anunnaki - Graphic Designer for being a huge help towards this guide.
