Back when this game was more playable - the file structure and windows registry were different.
We've lost a lof of backwards capability.
I'm unsure how to point the patch installer to the new registry location - if you are keen, then it might be an idea to contact the guys who made it, if they are still active.
Where is the game installed on your machine..? It ought be have an entry in your windows registry that points to its location - I think this may be because Steam has started to use the game name instead of the appID for the installation folders, or it is on a drive with a high letter?
Also, there's ... shit I forget that name too xD
It's like Insurgency or something... I can't remember, sorry. It didn't really take off so well back then, but it might have been fixed up and have a playerbase now - you will have to look. It was 32 vs 32.
ARMA 2 and Argo are the most like OFP for coop mil-sim play :)
It is a big shame that it is difficult to set it up for coop play, as this was the real highlight of the game...
There isn't really another one that is the same in the modern world, but you can try things like Ghost Recon Future Soldier, Red Orchestra 2, ARMA2 (or3), although these really are not quite the same.
The closest one would be the ARMA series (2), as this is the same series, kind of - OFP developed into ARMA Cold War Assault, and onwards, although they are not quite so action oriented.
There is a f2p version, that I cannot remember the name of atm. I will have a look - I spent a lot of time in that one, it was like a mini version of ARMA with a points based upgrade system, and pay to bypass the grind.
