Distressed

Yes I know, it's been a long time since I actually posted something to the workshop. It's not that I'm becoming lazy, in fact, I'm working more than ever. Since last week we started with the detailing stage of a map I'm working on that we aim to release for Operation 09 called de_Studio. Since I'm working on the materials and the overall look of the level I have to put less time on weapon skins. I still have some weapon finishes semi-finished so I will work on those when I can. The map being detailed is also the main reason that for now I'm not posting new Youtube tutorials. Enough about de_Studio, now onto this weapon skin.

Work Progress

This Glock-18 has been on my mind for some times now. Most mil-spec Glock-18 skins feature a black lower body which, for most players, is a big turn off. Most of the times the black bottom part is impossible to work around (i.e. patina, anodized finishes) but Gunsmith allowed me to paint the lower body. I decided to make the bottom part of the gun into a wooden stock and the top slider to be a brushed, bright metal. This is in line with the whole theme my Distressed Collection has been going for.

Applying the wood turned out to be a fairly simple proces. Colours were a bit iffy at first but after some tweaks in terms of contrast and brightness it turned out well. I added some rusty parts to the top slide and was ready to go on to the interesting part of this weapon skin, the wear.

Wear Progress

More and more skins start utilizing the chemical wear in a way it majorly changes the way the skin looks in different conditions. As for my weapon finish the top slide of the Glock-18 will rust when it becomes more worn. I intially didn't want it to be super rusted because then it would be too much in my eyes. Considering though that I can't make the wood scratch off like paint (because c'mon, that's not realistic) I upped it back to a full wear of 1.00. The wood will turn darker and the top slide will be almost completely rusted.

Last words

Like I said at the beginning, I still have some semi-finishes work that I will finish throughout the mapping adventure. Patterns, some more oxidized skins and distressed skins are coming but I don't know exactly when :P
