Golding people is what we do if they're being a nuisance. It's like if you get hit with the golden wrench in TF2. For them to be golded, they must have been being a problem and needed to be restrained from doing so.
Could be anything from screaming on the microphone to slamming props into peoples' trains. Whatever the reason was, it would have definitely been something that drew negative attention to them and required action.
Whoever told you that is lying through their teeth and shouldn't be trusted.
