How to Survive on the Community
By bhwgamer
New? Don't want to be ripped to shreds by vicious community members? Misguided and in need of social help? If you answered 'yes' to any of these questions, fear not! This guide will help you not get upset, cause upset, or become despised. This is useful for currently struggling people or new people that came from the Humble bundle.

Hi there!
So, if you're reading this, then you are either: new (either to the game or just the community), already despised and desperate for help out of your current mess, or you think that this is some kind of dank meme guide. Well, you're all in luck (except the memers; this guide really is meant to help people since humanity has failed me)

I apologize if anyone feels offended by this, but this is the harsh truth to getting by in this community without feeling like an angry chihuahua is biting your ankles all the time.

All art that isn't mine is credited and all examples of bad art are hand-made by me to avoid embarrassment to others.

Thumbnail art credit: Smudgeandfrank (Alex Miller) She's an awesome artist, btw.
The Discussions Section
Alrighty pal. So the first thing you probably have done or felt urged to do is zoom straight to Discussions and strike up a conversation about something really silly or discussed to a point of dryness, or something really volatile/controversial. Wrong, wrong, wrong! Let's talk about the Do's and Don'ts of the Undertale Discussions section.

Do:
1. Check the section to see if the topic you want to talk about has already been made before.
2. Make a relevant discussion about the game.
3. Be respectful of others, but remember to be strict on those who cause trouble.

Don't:
1. Post anything about shippings/pairings. That includes the ones about favorite, disliked, or how cringey you think they are. (Seriously, just don't. People will get angry at the mere mention of one)
2. Post anything about how much you hate Undertale or the fanbase. (If you want to express dislike, be constructive and don't shame the whole fanbase. That'll rile people up and put you on some kind of hitlist or something, I don't know.)
3. Flame on one person by making a whole topic about how much you dislke them. (Pretty straightforward, said person and all their "friends" will hammer on you.)
4. Ask for a sequel. Ain't happening, plus people will get disgruntled at you for this. Guess Dog backwards is really God afterall
5. Advertise your stuff. (Your "successful" movie idea, your "great" fangame, your "awesome" art, your unauthorized products, etc.)
6. Meme. That will cause a crazy derailing of your thread, probably get you banned for being the source of some argument you weren't aware of, and cause your credibility among others in the community to drop below zero.
7. OCs. Hey, don't know if you realized it yet, but all threads about OCs result in a huge dumpster fire due to opinions and the like. Maybe just stick to Reddit or the Undertale Amino page for this, OK?
8. Emoticons like that happy face, sad face, facepalming face, and the overuse of the salt shaker. People absolutely detest stock emoticons and they look childish.
The Art Section
Ah, probably the smelliest, most notorious section in this whole community. Here pal, I'll save you.

Do:
1. Make your own art from scratch.
2. Credit artist/have their permission if you do share it here.
3. Keep it clean.

Don't:
1. Make obvious shipping art. People here retch at that and will give you a bad reputation.
2. Make disturbingly gross art (You know what I mean; that junk you can't look at while at school or work)
3. Make very poorly done or quickly done art. Not trying to flame, but if you make a drawing of Sans in 2 minutes in MS Paint, it ain't gonna be a Picasso. Just saying. Y'know, keep it to yourself or show your pals, not every one else.
4. OCs or your friends done as characters. These are a-OK if done properly, but if people can't tell the difference between your OC art and a mashed potato, just keep it private.

Example of good, well-done art:
Credit: WalkingMelonsAAA (check out her DA, she is great at art)

As you can tell, this is art of Mettaton. It clearly was done well and NOT in MS Paint by a kiddo that got an F- in Art Class.

Example of bad art that should be kept at a 'Private' or 'Friends Only' publicity:
Credit: Me (Not an accurate representation of my normal art, just an example for you guys/gals/helicopters/etc.)

Huh? Is this supposed to be Mettaton NEO, a hideous Sonic OC, or a distorted, pink frog?? Just keep the artwork section clear of this junk, 'k?
Making Guides
Ok, this section will be short.

Just make sure you make an actual helpful guide for people and not a cringey meme-fest or some way of egging people on. You can make lighthearted joke guides every once and a while, but make it Undertale-related, alright?
OCs.
Yeah, I've mentioned these guys alot in this guide. They deserve their own section since they are very, very finnicky in regards to this fanbase.

Do:
1. Make something original. OC does mean "Original Character", not "Overpowered Character" or "Obviously rip-off Character".
2. Make sure you've played the frickin game before making a character.
3. Put time and effort into your creation.
4. Be lore-friendly.

Don't:
1. Make an overpowered character
2. Flood the artwork section with a new drawing of it every single day. People get tired of seeing the same Sans or Undyne rip-offs in the community everyday.
3. Rip-off an existing character. Really, that is a bad trip to the ball park for everyone involved.
4. Push your little OC agenda onto people. They really don't care for your campaigning to force everyone to accept your character as canon or the greatest.
5. Make them related or aquainted with every main character. They aren't the star here, darling.

Example of a good OC:
Credit: People with brain cells
Anyone that is original. (Not putting artwork here; don't feel like wading through trash to find treasure. Pretty sure you can have fun putting that in your own browsing history if you want to find a quality OC.)

Example of bad OC:
Credit: me (examples; not my regular art)
*Sigh* You have no clue how many people think they are clever by making stuff like this. Just be creative, alright?
End I guess
Well, did you learn anything? No? Alright, whatever. Um, if it did help or you liked it, please rate this rubbish so I know. If you didn't learn and want to learn something, I suppose I could teach you the Tragedy of Darth Plageius the Wise, but that's another story.
(Dialogue edit credit: Me, ya fool.)

I don't use reddit, and this was made years ago when the community here was legitimately terrible and I felt like making a meme using bad examples made entirely by me, and good examples made by other people to highlight amazing members here.

holy fuck just stay on reddit you freak

In that case, you should be fine if it happened a while ago and didn't continue on.
