Install
  • Make sure you have a clean install of the Steam/GOG version first.
  • Get the latest version[github.com] - click "Download Tomb Raider Automated Fix"
  • Run the file to install.
  • Once complete, launch the game on Steam and select "Tomb Raider I" or "Unfinished Business" from the launcher.
If the launcher won't open and your PC is severely outdated, then you need .NET Framework 4.0[www.microsoft.com].
About
This tool is ideal for those looking for an easy automated patch to play Tomb Raider in it's best possible state.

Provides significant enhancements to the game:
  • Custom launcher to play the base game and Unfinished Business expansion
    (Thanks cheatfreak47!)
  • Unlocked resolution (runs in native resolution by default)
  • Improved graphics
  • Full soundtrack
  • Water color from the PlayStation version
  • Steam overlay support
  • No longer plays with DOSBox
  • Optional higher resolution or remastered cutscenes
Normally, this can be achieved by manually installing and configuring the Tomb Raider Retail Fix but that requires a lot of tinkering that many people have had trouble with. The tweaks are already made for you and the modded game can now be launched from Steam (unlike with a manual install).
Advanced Configuration (optional)
In the game folder, open the Patches folder and edit the correct file to manage additional settings:
  • tombati - Tomb Raider
  • tombub - Tomb Raider: Unfinished Business

Lost Artifacts' TRX project (previously known as TR1main) grew out of Arsunt's TR2main project, which aimed to patch Tomb Raider 2. Arsunt stopped developing the TR2 patch, but the Lost Artifacts team continued the process of reverse engineering TR1, and today they have over 100 modifications and improvements (hence the name change). I recommend downloading TR1 from Steam/GOG, using the 'Automated Fix' tool first (I'll explain why), and then downloading the 'TRX' installer from GitHub. When you open it, choose the 'tombATI' option and install the improvements. Explanation: TRX does not come with HD FMVs and will install a new game in the 'documents' folder, so we won't be able to run it from Steam. Using the 'Automated Fix' first, the game will be recognized by Steam by replacing the original emulated files, it will come with a beautiful launcher with options to choose between the main game or the expansion and the improved FMVs. It is advantageous to use both.

For those who don’t know, this restoration project has been ongoing for 7 years. The original Tomb Raider 1 for PC was made to run on MS-DOS (an OS from the 80s), meaning it wasn’t designed to run on Windows. As a result, the game had several downgrades compared to the PS1 version, which is why people say ‘enhanced graphics’. The Steam version is emulated and doesn’t run the game natively on Windows. This patch eliminates the need to use the ‘DosBox emulator’ to unlock various features such as: running at any resolution (the Steam DosBox version goes up to 800p), enabling widescreen, restoring the complete soundtrack that was only available on the PS1, HD FMVs, support for HD textures, and video card filters, which thanks to the patch, runs natively on Windows.

Breaks the game, better install TR1X

This mod plays amazingly and is a huge improvement, BUT there is no sound effects. I'm getting music and dialogue, but no footsteps, gunshots etc. I wish I knew what the problem was :steamsad:

What does "Improved graphics" mean, is it the higher widescreen resolution? The bi-linear filtering? Does it offer 32 bit textures now? I don't consider fmvs to be count as graphics.
What are the differences to TR1Main or TR1X?
Why I investigate, I like to know what I am about to install, the provided executable cannot be opened as an archive, is there archived package version somewhere?

Orasouthpark this is for Tomb Raider 1 on steam or gog it says. There is also one for tomb raider 2 that steam is showing me right about these comments. Maybe that's why your confused? If you start reading at the very top you will see it says it is for Tomb Raider 1 and that it adds the expansion pack to TR1 and some other updates/mods.

Does this work for Tomb Raider 1 too?

I don't know if I'm the only one getting this issue, but whenever I use the Enhanced option for the FMV's (PCSX or/and Remastered) the screen goes black but the cutscene audio is still their.

And now my Dual Sense Controller does'nt work anymore with this version. Anyone has an idea how to fix this?

I'm having flickering textures like the broken bridge pieces in the Lost Valley, and the swords at the bottom floor of St Francis Folley.
