Introduction
Have you accidentally deleted your hacknet profile ingame? Look no further, I've got you covered! With the help of this simple guide, you should be able to easily recover your hacknet profile.

This procedure works because Hacknet doesn't actually delete "deleted" profiles, instead it simply removes them from a list.

To be on the safe side: While this shouldn't happen anyway, I am not responsible for any damage you do to your system or your game by following this guide. Proceed on your own risk and make backups.
Requirements
Programs:
  • The only program you'll need to do this is a basic text editor. Notepad will do just fine.
Other requirements:
  • This guide assumes you haven't created a new profile with the same name as the one you're trying to recover here - In this case your profile would be overwritten and couldn't be recovered anymore.
  • You're required to be on the same computer you have previously used for playing the profile you're trying to recover.
  • I'm also assuming you haven't reinstalled the game although that shouldn't make a difference.
1. Locate your save file
Find the folder
The first step is to locate your savefile. On Windows, it is located in:
C:\Users\[Your Name]\Documents\My Games\Hacknet\Accounts

If you want to recover a savefile that wasn't created in the base game, but instead was created in an Extension, you'll have to navigate into the according subfolder:
C:\Users\[Your Name]\Documents\My Games\Hacknet\Accounts\Your_Extension

Find your savefile
Now, you'll have to find your savefile's name in this folder. It will be named something like this:
save_yourName.xml
Remember how your savefile is named, you'll need it in the following steps.
2. Understand Accounts.txt
To recover your profile, you should know how the Accounts.txt seems to work.
Your typical Accounts.txt will look something like this:
zzzTestTwoYeah
%------%zzzTestTwoYeah
__#DEC_ENC::::::111111 111111 111111 111111 111111 111111 111111
111111 111111 111111
__24/05/2017 12:57:57
__save_zzzTestTwoYeah.xml
%------%
  • The first line of this file always shows the last used profile.
  • The %------% shows a new profile begins here
  • The two lines including the many numbers are something I don't know, so don't edit it. Note: I replaced them with 1s for the sake of simplicity.
  • The date shows when this profile was created.
  • The next line shows the savefile location of this profile.
  • At the end of the file, there's always a %------%.
3. Add your profile to Accounts.txt
Now it's time to recover your profile. I'd recommend doing a backup of Accounts.txt before editing in case something goes wrong.

Create a new profile in Hacknet
Go into Hacknet and create a new profile. Play until you're able to save the session. Press save and close Hacknet. We'll need this profile to cheat our "deleted" profile back in.

This new profile will look something like this in Account.txt (I named it "greatProfile"):
greatProfile
%------%greatProfile
__#DEC_ENC::::::111111 111111 111111 111111 111111 111111 111111
111111 111111 111111
__24/05/2017 12:57:57
__save_greatProfile.xml
%------%

Edit the new profile
Now, to regain access to your "deleted" profile in Hacknet, simply replace the profile name and the savefile name with that of the profile you want to recover (In my case, the profile's name is "Nacker"):
Nacker
%------%Nacker
__#DEC_ENC::::::111111 111111 111111 111111 111111 111111 111111
111111 111111 111111
__24/05/2017 12:57:57
__save_Nacker.xml
%------%
4. Test your profile
Finally, open Hacknet and see if you can log in with your "deleted" profile again. If you can, please log in with your recovered profile and save - If you don't save ingame, Steam Cloud might mess with the Accounts.txt and reset it.

If it doesn't work, please look through the previous steps carefully.
If it still doesn't work and you don't want to give it another try you can replace the Accounts.txt with the backup you hopefully made before to reset everything to the state it was.
Possible side effects
As this procedure is not officially supported, there might be possible side effects I don't know about. If you do notice any side effects provoked by this procedure, please write them in the comments of this guide to let others now.

Wow, this helped. I didn't accidentally delete my profile or anything, but when I added an extention for some reason all my profiles got moved out of that text document. I had two 100% accounts that I didn't want to lose, so thanks lol, really helped.
