THE WRONG but easy way
Simply copy the following files from the japanese version of the game rename the one on the english game (to backup the en file) and paste the one from the japanese game. Run the game, open the menu and set voice to japanese.
  • ED6_DT28.dat
  • ED6_DT28.dir

THE RIGHT and not at all hard way
  1. Grab a copy of the original ED6_DT28.dat (the one from the jp game)
  2. Download falcnvrt to extract the original ED6_DT28.dat file x86 (32-bit OS)[www.pokanchan.jp] x64 (64-bit OS)[www.pokanchan.jp].
  3. After extracting grab an empty usb with NOTHING on it, on the extracted files you will see "ED6T####.WAV" files copy those to your usb.
  4. After copying the necessary file to the usb download and extract ED6DatCreator.7z[modding.tistory.com].
  5. After extracting ED6DatCreator.7z you will see a "ED6DatCreator.cmd" file and a "_exe" folder place those two in the usb that contains your "ED6T####.WAV" files.
  6. Simply double click ED6DatCreator.cmd it will then create a ".dat" and a ".dat.dir" file.
  7. Rename ".dat" to "ED6_DT37.dat" and ".dat.dir" to "ED6_DT37.dir".
  8. Copy both "ED6_DT37.dat" "ED6_DT37.dir" to your game directory.
  9. Run the game, open the menu and set voice to japanese, enjoy.
GREY AREA
Disclaimer I did not upload these, made these, or suggest getting these if you don't own the japanese game (I think you can buy from steam japan, if not then falcom).

So I played the game after repacking the files, and the voices were messed up. The prepacked files downloaded above are working fine though. Did I do something wrong?

It is prepacked like I just commented before your long comment.

Update: it had processed 60 files in a day... so I decided to try running it in my Windows XP VM (originally so I could suspend it to restart my computer once in a while). Created a new HDD for the VM, put all the files on it, and it finished in a few seconds :O. So maybe it just doesn't like Windows 10 or something.

By the way, are the ones in the download link above (grey area) the original JP files or after running thru ED6DatCreator? Couldn't you/me/someone upload the re-packed files and save everyone some trouble?

It's nice to see you guys aren't using the prepacked files

The ED6DatCreator step was really slow for me too, so I created a small partition on my HDD to see if it would be faster. It's still really slow, so there must be something else that's causing it to be slow.

I don't believe the Japanese version is available on Steam anywhere but there are various Japanese digital stores that you can buy it from if you want to get the files from that actual game/play the original version. You could also get it physically but that's more expensive what with having to import and all. I don't know all the ones that allow for international purchases but I've bought Falcom games off DLsite before so I know at least they work. I hear Vector accepts Paypal even but I have yet to use them.

Go down to 英雄伝説 空の軌跡 the 3rd and pick whichever works for you.

nonamen  [ophavsmand] 6. maj 2017 kl. 22:55
It took me about 10 mins to create, it could take longer if your storage (hdd/pendrive) and the bus(usb/sata) is slow

Thanks for the guide.
I'm waiting for the .dat and dat.dir files to get created, but the program has processed 30 files in about 30 minutes. There are 1941 wav files in total.
It is normal that the creating process of both .dat and .dat.dir files takes so much time?
