The Last Stand added support for the original L4D1 commons and some specials as well. I think it has something to do with the physics, but I don't really know for sure. Perhaps one day they'll update this mod, but if not there's workarounds.

You can do a sorta manual update-ish to it, though in coop it'll break a tad. I'd say it's best to wait until the author professionally updates the mod; but until then the manual way exists!
