Introduction
This guide is showing what we currently know about luck.
If you feel like any information is wrong, please show why that is.
Follow the 'reference' links for more info.

The luck attribute is mentioned on 3 trinkets in the game.

Luckstone
While equipped, your luck is increased by 25%
Gleaming Luckstone
While equipped, your luck is increased by 50%
Stone of Pure Luck
While equipped, your luck is increased by 100%

The only known effect of luck:
  • Increases the chance of getting a 'cursed bonus die' when opening a chest.

Other important information:
  • Only the wearer of the tinkets get the increased drop-chance.

  • The trinkets does in no way increase the spawn-rate/drop-chance of 'cursed bonus die' for any other team members.

Cursed bonus dice

These dice are the ones that sometimes are inside chests. Max 2 per level.

If you pick them up from chests in a level, they replace the standard 'bone die' in the loot roll for everyone in the party.

Read more about loot dice in this steam guide: Ranald's Bones (Loot Rolls)

As you can read there, cursed bonus dice are pretty nice. If you are doing a full tome/grimoire run, having 2 cursed bonus dice more than doubles your chances of rolling 7 hits (!).

Numbers
Without any of the luck trinkets equipped, a player has a 5% chance to spawn a cursed bonus die when opening a chest.

Name
Description
% drop-chance of die in a chest while equipped
Luckstone
While equipped, your luck is increased by 25%
6.25%
Gleaming Luckstone
While equipped, your luck is increased by 50%
7.5%
Stone of Pure Luck
While equipped, your luck is increased by 100%
10%

Using 'Stone of Pure Luck', lets see how this looks when you open all the chests on a whole map. I'm using the three maps with the most chests as an example here.

These are the chances of getting both cursed bonus dice.

Map
Without extra luck
With 'Stone of Pure Luck'
Horn of Magnus
37.5%
74.8%
Supply and Demand
32.0%
68.4%
Wizard's Tower

63.5%

Tips
  • If you are looking to get more veteran (red) weapons/hats, the importance of cursed bonus dice and luck trinkets should not be underestimated.

  • The common (green) 'Luckstone' is not seen as worth bringing along due to its small boost.

  • If you are the designated chest-opener, try and be the first one to the chests.
It's no fun standing around waiting for chests to be opened.

  • People often forget themselves, and open chests before the trinket-bearer can get to it.
    Just politely remind them.

  • Many don't care about luck and the cursed bonus dice. Host a game yourself if you want to be strict on the chest opening.

What luck doesn't do
Here are some beliefs some people previously had about luck.
There is no evidence for any of these events having anything to do with luck.

  • Increased chance of sack rat appearing.

  • Increased chance of sack rat dropping cursed bonus dice.

  • More and/or better items inside chests across the maps.

  • Making weapon traits trigger more frequently.

If you aren't wearing luck, ask if anybody is and then establish first before opening a chest. Not terribly complicated.

"People often forget themselves, and open chests before the trinket-bearer can get to it.
Just politely remind them." .... would be nice if they would do it politely ...
