Tips & More - Ball 3D (2017)
By LazP 🐸
Extensive guide that doesn't just include Tips but also information about a bit of the history of the game and between other things, apologies if it's confusing, this is due to me (the writer) not being native English. Read at your own pace or read whatever you feel like that you can read or want to. This is an initial guide since when the game launches on steam there won't be any right off the bad I presume.

History+Info on Ball 3D
Ball 3D had its first logged update in June 5, 2012 (1.001). For the following 5 years we had up and downs on the playerbase and the community in general, we had various maps/gamemodes/stadiums like "Pong", "Portals"(each side of the stadium had a portal), "Beach", "Water"(literally a stadium that is all water and you float around and smack the ball), "Volley" and much more, and slowy we started to create a standard on what everyone wants to play and what teams wanted to compete on, which nowadays is between 3v3(Classic Stadium) and 5v5(Real Football Stadium) and will probably stay like that for a while.

Competitive? Teams?
- Yes, we held and still host some community driven Tournaments/Leagues, where newly and old teams participate and compete for bragging rights and at times even some had coin awards, but ever since we started having badly managed ones, the owner (Maniek) had to be picky and careful on what to reward and what not, this lead to some conflicts but which died down with time. Oh and we even had an ESL 1v1 section on the eSport known website going by the name Electronic Sports League, but cause of the lack of users on it, they closed it down, but maybe we'll make a return, one day..

Ball 3D runs/ran its playerbase divided into 3:
- Global (Pretty self-explanatory, even though we focus on our own countries we do have some connections here and there or even third-party 'organizations' that brings everyone together and communicate as a whole)
- Countries (Each country normally have their website and players and do leagues between themselves and even have a Nacional Team that may compete on Nation Cups/Leagues)
- Groups (This means a group of friends of group of players that play always between themselves and isolate from others)

About the Latency/Lag
- For years we always had room issues when it came to hosts, some players couldn't join some hosts, and some rooms would always have so much ping that it would make the game not enjoyable and it would really make everyone just play between their country members and back away from other countries, therefore that made it so if you join a foreign country's room, they normally straight kick/ban you. This stopped to be so common but still happens today, recently we had Dedicated Servers as Rooms and Lag Compensation was added some time ago which improved overall gameplay for everyone. Don't be scared off cause people are kicking/banning you, please understand.

About the quality of the Game
- Runs on the Unity Engine as you can already notice if you opened the game, and obviously doesn't look that polished, fancy and still has lots of work to be done to it, and looks lacking with non-original shop items and so on, BUT taking that all aside, it has a huge history of fun and competitive moments where it shows why the old players/veterans continued playing it, you will find it addicting in the beginning and who knows you'll meet people that will welcome you with warmth and teach you the ropes, the game is easy to learn & hard to master. The dev of the game is done by only ONE person and we just hope that dev team one day grow so we get more juicy updates!

Questions and their answer
Q: How do you win coins?
A: You can win them, but only if they're provided and confirmed to community driven leagues, there may also be events where you can win coins. But the normal way of getting coins is by purcashing them yourself.

Q: How do I get Chests and Keys?
A: You can get Chests/boxes for free OR you can buy them yourself, you have to login to the game and should get one every 48 hours by playing, if you have a "PRO" membership(which you can buy) you get 2 boxes/chests. To get keys the only way currently is by buying them with coins.
Basic Controls (+Info)
  • *Default keybindings

The basic of basics, that with time you will periodically know how to direct yourself through-out the field to position yourself better to receive and defend balls, a very simple way to move but very important indeed.

One thing you'll notice from everyone, mostly veterans, is that they are always jumping around or doing small jumps all the time, some do this so they keep themselves not bored or it's like an addictive thing to do, some by doing this they train small/minor jumping which can be used to do low passes, it's a pretty self-explanatory keybind/mechanic, but it's very important to catch balls from the air and so on and what is used to do low passes and other various tricks, get used to it.

This is the main mechanic/key to shoot/pass/control the ball, you will need to use this combined with Q+R keys to pass in different directions. It doesn't matter where you are looking at ingame with your disk when you press to shoot/pass since it will not change where the ball goes, what matters is that the ball is touching or very near your disk, using Q or R to change its direction is very fundemental.

The "Shift" added a new level of control into the game, its use goes from doing long passes to dribbles to go through your opponent, when Shift+LMB are pressed depending on the energy you put into it, the ball will go straight up and you can imagine what you can do with this. Also used to stop balls faster when it goes fast towards you, also if someone passes you a low fast ball, you can use Shift to make it go OVER you so you have a better positioned ball and so on.. this is one of the most important mechanics in the game, and decides at many occasions what happens on the field, if used correctly. The mechanic works well with Q+R keys when pressed together.

This combination of keys makes it like I said above, possible to direct your shot/passed balls in a arch/curve, to the right or left, in my opinion, the most important combination of keys in the game, the basic of basics that decides how the balls goes through the field, towards other teammates and used to score too.

Question: What kind of Curving Mode should I use?
Answer: This is very much preference. 14 of March, 2017 we had a graph posted by the owner of the game showing what type of curving mode players use, here it is:

Improving/Learning for Newbies
I'll keep it simple:

- Play with fun in mind
If you're playing and you're not having fun what so ever, you may improve but you are most likely to just leave the game for huge amount of times and get rusty or not come back ever again, so I suggest you play with a group of friends or invite some and play with them for the heck of it, have fun, enjoy, it will improve your skill periodically.

Tutorial
"eeeh it's the tutorial, who cares", I know that some may just skip the tutorial or not do it, but it's a pretty fast one, you'll be impressed on how many players can't do it or even hit the huge target on the net, just do it once, play around on it, and be able to finish it in a matter of seconds and you'll be good to go.

Play vs. Bots
The bots are pretty dumb, but even if dumb they may seem difficult for new players, that's why they're there, as some sort of a single-player option and for training purposes towards newbies, SO before you start playing Online, I suggest you go into bots, play the first difficulty a few times, making sure you win the matches, and up the difficult every time you feel like you can handle it, good luck!

Play alone or w/friends
Create your own room but with a password so only friends or you alone play on it, and play around with the ball, shoot it agaisn't the wall, attempt to dribble it, try to run with the ball from one point of the stadium to the other, circle the ball as close as possible without touching it. If you're aware of what's possible to do in Ball 3D you may even try those alone, and keep on doing that, you'll notice that you'll improve even if slightly how you control your disk and the ball itself, getting used to your host will reflect on other rooms, don't forget that practice makes perfection, and playing alone will also stimulate your muscle memory once you get stuff done.

Teamplay
Most of the time Teamplay is what decides which team wins and which loses, please don't ditch your teammates. If you're playing online with others, show some effort, pass the ball when you don't know what you're doing, if you press LMB(Left Mouse Button)+Q or E as you do a small jump you will do a low pass, or even without doing low passes, these are fairly useful and is used by everyone all the time, pass infront of your teammate or to where he is going, and never play alone, cause you'll lose the ball due to your own stupidity and that will cost your team. Don't be toxic even though others are being towards you, you're learning and they had to learn like you are now.
Graphical Options
Recommended Video Settings
- Anti Aliasing - Every option below x8 is fine, you won't notice a difference after x4. Performance wise "Off" or "x2".
- Fullscreen - Use it with your native resolution.
- Shot Effects - May be distracting, this option is personal.
- Audience - Recommended to be turned off.
- Grass 3D - This may hit performance on low-end PCs but it's personal.
- Camera FOV - This is your field of vision, too high will make the game look plain BAD, I recommend between 75-90
- VSync: On, if you think that you're okay without having your FPS locked to your monitor refresh rate, turn it off.

Here's my Personal Settings:

Q: I still have really bad performance even after turning everything off and to the lowest possible !
A: You may try the command /tribunes 2 - this will get rid of the audience+stand entirely, helps for plenty of users.
The End

If you read the whole guide or parts of it, I appreciate it, I hope you have fun on this Game and that my guide helped you even if just the slightest, if you have anyone that you think that should read this guide to get a headstart or help about the game, go ahead and link them it. Thank you. GL & HF!
