1. Why do this?
This career does not require Horizons, unlike skimmer missions. It does not require logging or session skipping in order to be work. No factions will end up hostile to you – in fact you’re better off when more factions are allied with you!

Also, no combat skill whatsoever is required. With a minor bit of engineering the only thing that will threaten the paycheck is your own negligence. However: more attention is required than with trading, and more interesting locations will be seen, systems will be scanned, and you will probably get in some naval rep gain.

On the plus side, due to destroy-on-sight passenger missions there is actual risk to getting caught by the cops – if these missions are selected. I find this to be a plus, as ever since Robigo I’ve loved evading the cops! If you follow this guide getting away with your criminal passengers in your speedy limo will be amusingly easy – but the existence of that KOS risk is what makes it fun, eh?

Money +++, Fun +++, Risk ++, Exploration and naval rank +.
2. The Loadout
Base ship: The Orca.
Necessary modules: Adv discovery scanner, passenger cabins
Important non-functional requirements: speed, best possible shield, jump range, good sensors.

The Orca is the best ship for this method of play. A cobra may also work, but the high laying Luxury jobs will not be an option
  • YOU NEED a discovery scanner. This is what allows you to see and find the visitor beacons. If you are a cheapass SOB count on having to drop into EVERY nav beacon (do not recommend, as cops and NPC pirates hang around there, and you have to complete a scan of the beacon in order to get the system data)
  • Variety of Passenger cabins Missions are very diverse, so have stored cabins you can quicky equip when a lucrative mission pops up
  • 6A Shield, or 5 prismatic. Hull damage makes missions fail. So don't let anything get through.
  • Base A rated thrusters mean nothing can scan you, modded means an extra bit of maneuverability which helps in dodging into the station.
  • having good jump range will make your life better But it's playable without engineering, just remember to use your discovery scanner to make use of the extra systems you're jumping through
  • Shield boosters help you avoid hull damage, which freaks out some passengers - and with that much extra energy there is no reason to not have them

Here's the real trick; versatility!
For each slot in your ship have a set of class passenger cabins
The locking down of the mission boards can be used to your advantage. If you see a 10mil mission which requires 7 seats, economy class you can open outfitting, swap out the 6 seat business class cabin module, and then pick up that mission.

Luxury cabins in particular are highly situational. I ran a 23mil/ 3 stop mission which required a luxury cabin so having it as an option can be highly lucrative BUT the incredibly low seat numbers mean keeping them equipped all the time is inefficient.
if you'd think that having passengers in a higher class cabin than required would pad their happiness levels... you would be wrong. :(

3. Setting up Home
Due to the nature of sightseeing missions, you will be returning to the station you took the missions from. Thus, you will want to find a system with lots of factions near the edge of the bubble. Why?
  • So that your trip can take a boomerang loop: up, in, around, out.

  • So that you can get some bonus rep: each job for a super power aligned faction will get you some naval rank. This is usually a pain in the ass to get, and limo running isn't going to level you up fast, but it will help to keep your 'friendliness' with the major faction up other wise, this meter slowly drops over time
  • You want to be allied with these factions: the higher your local influence the better jobs and payouts you'll be offered. Border systems with a single partner they trade data with are far easier to run missions for. in a core system you'll have like, 4 neighbors meaning more jumps, more jobs, and a bigger pain in the ass to get allied with all the local factions. :(
  • Other game careers will likely be more lucrative in these border systems. Looking at the history of the game, the way multipliers work for distance means that 200ly out from the bubble systems get HUGE boosts to money made for a small amount of extra jumps. Sothis, ect all were huge money makers, and with this new system they will continue to be.
/conclusion- having existing rep makes it easier for YOU to jump in on a new gravy train once it appears, so all that grind you do now? It'll pay off later!

4. How to not get caught
Stop Right There Criminal Scum!
The best jobs are the Kill On Sigh criminal mastermind jobs. These are the reason you have an Orca! They are why you have the space equivalent of the General Lee!

If you get interdicted, submit, boost, and highwake out.

Your resting speed in an orca, with 5A rockets strapped to your butt is enough to evade any copper scan. Don't bother with silent running - the hull damage you inevitably take will scare your passengers.

When you finish your tourist loop, pull up to your home station in a loop, with the planet behind you. The mailslot of the station always faces the planet it orbits. Thus: you can avoid extra time you spend drifting about trying to get a straight shot.

Do not boost into the mail slot at the last second. You will die. The orca is really fast. Boost only when you're 3+ km out, and start throttling down just before you get to the wire-cage thing. Deploy landing gear, and throttle backwards to slow your speed even more.

Be careful to not loiter over other landing pads, as this is HORRIBLY illegal, will lead to a fine, and your passengers will be appalled at your blatant disregard for the law!

Thanks for the great guide ! I figured it out and I am now in love with the Orca. Made 25 million in 2 hours yesterday and the Boat is just a charme to fly around. Incredibly strong thrusters! :thumbalift:

@achoobert I see. Looks like this has not happend to me so far. I have seen a bunch of station kills, including an interdicting pirate chasing me into the station who exploded after firing 1 shot at me. I'll keep switching ships then, depending on available missions. Looks like there's alot more to it than it seems. Thanks for the info.

@Speed Limit
The thing about criminal masterminds is, if you're scanned with one onboard THE STATION will *KILL* you! You may have been running less dubious (and well paying) passengers so far, you'll learn to love the orca once you start getting them... nothing pays like a luxury criminal mission -*because* it is a kill-on-scan mission

@achoobert about the high boost speed, yeah that the t7 really lacks. Still love the cobra3 for that with its 480ms boost engineered. I'll keep the orca for now, but i'm just torn...

@achoobert i got only successfully scanned once by a pirate. He was an additional reward (comming to kill my passenger...) and interdicted me next to a sun. I didn't want to run silent so i figured i just let it run out and see what happens. Passenger went from happy to, idk dissapointed or some such, however the payout stayed at 1.3m for a 80ly/4 jump sightseeing trip. At its low price i find running two heatsinks (1 as a reserve because why not) works fine for me, but there's still some things i haven't worked out. But they also haven't been an issue so far either.

@psiwyrm yes, the aspx is a decent medium passenger runner, and the jump range is a big plus. I'll have to update this guide with lower tier options later. Thanks.

@speedlimit are you running criminal masterminds though? Are they sensitive about being scanned?

If you are running a space cow without successful scans, then kudos to you.

The point of the orca is super high (base!) boost speed, which enables you to outrun any scan with ease

I just bought an Orca and to be honest, it just isn't working for ME. I can get 3-4 times as many passengers or payout using a Type-7 and first class cabins. Having similar range at 20% the cost (and insurance) plus the chance to just switch to making a cargo run if no good missions are up, it's way better. Not optimal, but i instantly regret buying the orca.

You can totally do these in an AspE and not have to spend no where near the cost of an Orca. With the exception of Luxury missions (which are rare anyways). And until 2.3 comes out, the Orca has miserable jump range compared to the AspE
