Between the other Wargaming titles, I haven't returned to World of Tanks in a while... and it shows. I'm very rusty. I decided to stick to low tier fights until I can get use to it again.

In 1938, Hino Motors created a design to replace the obsolete Type 95 Ha-Go. The result was the light tank, Type 98 Ke-Ni. The initial goal was to create a vehicle of the same weight as the Type 95, but with thicker armor to survive .50 caliber machine gun rounds.

Another advantage was the more spacious turret, allowing a two-person crew inside, versus the single man turret of the Ha-Go.

Despite many advantages over the older tank, it was decided that the Type 95 was still suitable for combat against the Chinese National Revolutionary Army. Because of this the vehicle did not go into production until several years later.

In 1942 it was decided to finally place the order, as the Japanese Army was encountering superior allied tanks that out classed the Type 95. However within a year after production started, it was cancelled as the Imperial Japanese Navy was given priority on all high quality steel for their ship building program.

The Type 98 Ke-Ni production was cancelled in 1943 with around 104 vehicles produced with some variants.
