By BBQ and 1 collaborators
Simple skin creating guide for PC:E. Will go through basics, leave helpful links, help with problems, answer questions and help with publishing the skin to workshop. Only for Substance Painter 2 and/or Paint Tool SAI though.

The start.
Right before we jump straight into the skin making I'd advise You to download/buy Substance Painter 2 (if you haven't already). SP has free trial, where you can practice and try making skins. While it downloads, I shall explain the very basics of skin making.

Oh you'll also be needing the models for the dinos. They will be found in here[dl.dropboxusercontent.com] LINK IS NOT WORKING

If the link didn't work, I've made my own dropbox zip here[www.dropbox.com]. You will need dropbox account to download it. Link and download should work as far as I'm aware. If they don't work tell me and I'll see if I can do anything about it.
I also suggest that you download the .FBX files from the primalcarnageforum just in case even though they don't work in SP2 (or atleast I think so).
Substance Painter 2
A little side note here, the look of Substance Painter has changed a bit, certain things might be found from different areas but other than that the tutorial is still up to date.

Done downloading SP2? Good, now we'll get to the fun part.

So, once you've booted up your Substance Painter, you will see something like this:

The first thing you have to do is click File open from the upper left corner and then choose New:

Now you have to import the model and the bumpmap:
Make sure the skin is 512x512!
At this point I'd like to inform that I have absolutely no idea how to do skins that have more than 1 texture map. (Includes tupa, feathered nova, t-rex, spino, carno. Basically anything that isn't acro, normal nova, dilo, cryo or ptera. Though you can make all these skins in SAI but we'll get to that later)

Got your model loaded and ready to be painted on? Well wait just a second!

We will be using nova as our model. It should look all gray and naked like this;

To get it look more proper you go down right where you will choose the map file. You go here and do this;
It now should look like this;

There we go, our nova is ready to be painted! On the upper right corner you will find your Layers. You can add Fill Layers which will color the whole thing to the color you choose. Then you can add "basic" layers where you can choose what kind of brush you'll be using and what color. As we all are human beings, I'm sure all of you can figure this out.

When choosing color there will be 5 different thingies. Metallic, Roughness and Base color. You need none, except Base color. Only friend you'll need is Base color. Love the Base color. You can choose color you want from the color box by clicking the white box below the text Base color.

There is also a variety of different brushes, found from pretty much down middle. Choose your favorite and lets get painting.

Tips:
By right clicking the model it will open stuff in front of you. Click "Display Next Channel" to make your dino a silhouette. (Will be useful when doing details) To get your dinosaurs lovely bumps back right click again and press "Display Material".

Problem so unique, you can't find any answers? Ask in the comments, and we will be answering as much as we can.

Update: Substance Painter 2 now supports 2 uv maps. Simply add both maps and change the uv you want to paint on whenever you want to.
SAI and finishing your skin
Now about SAI I don't have much to say. Open the texture, add new layer and make the new layer Overlay. Now just paint on it, and remember to save it as both .sai and .tga. (.tga to be imported to SDK and viewed how the skin looks like, SAI to keep your layers to continue later on it).

I also like to export my texture from SP2 to SAI and paint mouth, teeth and eye straight on the texture. This way the colors will stay on the wanted places, unlike in SP where colors of the teeth might be found from somewhere else you'd like it not to be.

How to get my nod of acceptance: do not make the teeth bright white, natural color for teeth is yellowish/brownish

*This page is still under construction*
Publishing to Workshop
Once you get your skin ready in SDK, you need to create own package for it. Simply copy both MI and textures to new package, save it somewhere you can find it and make sure you saved it as .upk file. (simply rightclick wanted package and save) Now you need to open workshop tool. This will be similar to opening a map. Open your files, find your Steam files then steamapps>common>Primal Carnage Extinction Level Editor>Binaries>Workshop>WorkshopTool. Once you've filled all info, added upk, hit Publish and wait for few seconds. Now your skin is succesfully in workshop! Make sure you've added your bank and tax info, or your skin cannot be viewed on the workshop page. BTW, the best resolution for pictures (or atleast my personal favorite) is 1300x731.

Edited existing skin? No need to upload the whole thing!
Simply open workshop tool, choose from upper left corner Edit existing and choose what skin you want to update. Then upload the newer upk, hit publish and tada! The files are now updated.

hi! just letting you know that the last link with the making a skin with 2UV's seems you need a password to get view it? was wondering what that might be as apparently it was set by an administrator lol

some of them don't work. only tupa and ovi work. rest have to be made either full 2d or make body in 3d and head in 2d
