Introduction

Neon Drive achievements are not difficult to get in terms of instructions. There are no secrets to getting the achievements. Their difficulty, instead, lies on how easy/hard you find each level on each game difficulty. Also on your memory for choreographies, since they are constant throughout the game. There are no randomly generated maps.

Therefore, it is only with practice and perseverance that you can get 100% achievements.

This guide serves as an approach on how to get every achievement with (hopefully) useful tips.

Hidden achievements are at the end to avoid spoilers.
Level completion
Winner Complete 3 levels (on Normal difficulty)

There are 7 levels in Neon Drive. You may complete them in any order. Only Normal difficulty is taken into account, making this achievement quite quick to obtain.

Hardship Complete 3 levels on Hard difficulty

After beating a level in Normal difficulty, Hard and Insane difficulties are unlocked. The difference between Hard and Normal is that the music (and therefore, the level) is played faster. The choreography, however, remains the same, meaning if you've learned the moves in Normal, you can use them in Hard. Just make sure to synchronize your moves to the faster music.

As with "Winner", you may play the 3 levels in any order.

Insanity Complete 3 levels on Insane difficulty

After beating a level in Normal difficulty, Hard and Insane difficulties are unlocked. The difference between Insane and Hard is that the music (and therefore, the level) is played even faster. The choreography, however, remains the same, meaning if you've learned the moves in Normal or Hard, you can use them in Insane. Just make sure to synchronize your moves to the faster music.

As with "Winner" and "Hardship", you may play the 3 levels in any order.

Unfortunately, the achievements are not inclusive of each other, meaning that it is not possible to achieve "Hardship" by achieving "Insanity", since difficulties log in independent scores.

Classic Explorer Finish Level 1 on classic layout

Classic layouts are old layouts that were discarded due to their difficulty. However, the remain playable if you activate the appropriate button.

After beating a level in Normal mode, the option at the bottom "Classic Layout" becomes available and applies the required changes.

All you need to do is complete the first Level with the Classic Layout on. You can do it in Normal.
Arcade machines
Destroyer Destroy one arcade machine

Beating a level in any difficulty gives you 100% completion. Since there are three difficulties, it is possible to achieve 300% completion per level. Upon achieving 300% completion, the arcade machine gets destroyed.

Annihilator Destroy 7 arcade machines

Complete all 7 levels on all 3 difficulties (Normal, Hard and Insane).
No checkpoints
Neon Knight Complete 3 levels on Normal difficulty without using checkpoints

Neon Hero Complete 3 levels on Hard difficulty without using checkpoints

Neon Champion Complete 3 levels on Insane difficulty without using checkpoints

Superhuman Complete 7 levels on all difficulties without using checkpoints

These are the most difficult achievements to get, since they require you to complete the levels without using checkpoints. Meaning that if you lose past the checkpoint, you have to Exit and Restart the whole level again.

Unfortunately I am not yet sure if the second chances provided in Normal difficulty (when the music comes to a halt and accelerates slowly back into normal speed) count against these achievements.

There is not much to advice on these achievements other than to practice the choreography thoroughly and attempt the levels on one try once you are confident enough.

Below is a video made by Krauvando where all 7 levels are beaten using no checkpoints.

Endurance
Sprint Survive 5 minutes in Endurance mode

Endurance Run Survive 10 minutes in Endurance mode

Marathon Survive 15 minutes in Endurance mode

Very hard achievements to get, they require survival in Endurance mode. Similarly to the No Checkpoints achievements, they require survival without making any mistakes. Any errors will lead to a complete restart.

Basically, you have to play through all 7 levels in Normal difficulty (fortunately) for as long as you can without making any mistakes. I am not certain of what happens if you manage to reach the end without any mistakes.

These achievements feature a time counter in seconds towards each achievement. However, I am yet unable to report if the time is cumulative or not. Some games reset these counters when the player fails.

Below is a video made by Krauvando where 18 minutes of Endurance are cleared.

Hidden achievements
Addiction Retry 30 times

In theory, this achievement is quite easy to get. All that is needed is to retry 30 times.

In reality, things are a little different. I failed to get it by retrying 50 or so times in a row, by grinding Escape + Retry over and over. However, after retrying a further 10 or 15 times during a normal gameplay, making normal mistakes, I was able to achieve it. So I guess it either depends on Steam API's refresh rate or the fact that the game does not consider an Escape + Retry grind as an actual Retry.

Perseverance Reach 100 attempts on any level

Attempts are cumulative and remain on each arcade machine (or level) forever. They are also cumulative throughout different difficulties. That said, if you fail 15 times in Normal, 30 times in Hard and 45 times in Insane, you should have 90 attempts overall in said level.

A simple way to get this achievement is to simply crash into the first obstacle over and over, on any level of your choice, until the counter hits 100. If you've been playing and still don't have it, choose the map with the highest count of attempts to make it quicker. It shouldn't take more than 2-5 minutes, however.

Braveheart Try any level on Insane difficulty

Very easy achievement to get. Simply beat the first (or any) level in Normal difficulty and then simply start said level in Insane difficulty. You don't even have to make it to the end. Just by starting you get this achievement.
Credits

Good luck with your achievement hunting! As I said before, there isn't any science to getting them. The only obstacle is to practice and grind again and again.

I have used Krauvando's Endurance video in this guide. All credits belong to Krauvando.

I have also used all the achievement images from Neon Drive's Steam webpage. All credits belong to Fraoula.

Desta has kindly clarified the "second chances" matter for the No Checkpoint achievements.

This is quite old, but I've finished all levels on all three difficulties yet I somehow didn't get the superhuman achievement.

I think you should update the part regarding checkpoints and "second chances".

Just thought i'd paste this here, I found it in a discussions thread posted by the developer.

"I've checked, the achievement works. But the French translation was wrong. Should be correct now: "Réessayez 30 fois" = "Retry 30 times". So, just retry the level 30 times. That is, when you die, just continue playing, don't exit the level, and let it happen 30 times. We thought everyone would get this achievement eventually :D You're either too good or you've made frequent pauses by exiting the level/game."

If you're like me and get easily distracted then you might miss the achievement by "just playing the game".

Good for you. Others need a little orientation on how to get them. Plus, I had time to spare so why not combine Krauvando's videos in one guide?

Not trying to minimize your work. It's a pretty well done guide. But tbh the achievements for this game are pretty straightforward. And it's not like you need a strategy or tips to face some kind of rng. It's all into practice and memorization.

You're very welcome! Glad I helped :)
