A General Remark
As it has been a while since I have heavily done Starbound stuff, expect this to take a few days to fully get everything that really gives the dosh inside of this guide.
Exploration - Looting and Selling
Let's face it- after a while of exploration, you're going to start filling your pack with all sorts of odd stuff and assorted shinies, such as duplicate vanity items. Luckily, the Outpost will allow you to sell off extras and other such items at the vendors (Except for the Terramart Shipping, which will only grant pixels for sending up produce and harvesting items.) This also doesn't count the pixel drops and ther things you'll find while exploring, of course.

Do note: when in villages and towns, you will temporarily upset townfolk if they catch you stealing from containers in the village.

A couple of noteworthy loot I've noticed in my adventures:

Legendary Vanity -Legendary vanity items sells for a whopping 1000 pixels when sold, making them extremely useful sales. As some missions have special respawning vanity items (like the Ruby Mask from Floran missions), or certain areas having surprisingly common Legendary vanity items (Avian temples and Phoenix Circlets come to mind), you're able to quickly gain some added wealth with a simple dungeon dive.
Mining - Ore to Pixels
This section's going to be rather quick and dirty, as it's one of the most basic ways to amass wealth in Starbound once you no longer require massed ore for gear. The Refinery will grant you slightly better rates for ore than selling them to the shop, so crafting a refinery and then mining out ore is some of the easiest ways of getting ahead in lategame.

Things that help this way of revinue:
Refinery - A no-brainer at this point. Grants better Pixel conversion than selling to a shop.
Ore and Cave Scanner - Allows you an easier time to track down massed piles of ore.
Pickaxes and Drills - Common loot items, so when you get a decent horde of them, use them to speed up the process of gathering ore.
Farming - Crops to Pixels
Farming for crops is a very passive way of gathering materials, though with the recent changes with Survival it's not a good idea to horde them for long. However, there are several crops that can offer sizable Pixel prices that lead to great sale value. The problem of course comes with both crop decay - meaning selling them immediately for profit or storing them in cold storage to try and salvage the crop for Survival players.

I am only listing the crops that are really worth growing, the ones with around 100 pixels for sale value per crop. Otherwise, the rest of the crops are just too cheap to invest the time. With that said, I am NOT checking the aquatic crops (Reefpod and Coralcreep) as they require an entire growing area full of water to even work.

Do note, sell prices are not the same as the pixel price on the info for the item, aka it's buy price. You won't get the same price, but the more the plant's buy price, the better your pixel sell price is.

90 Pixel Buy Price (Sell for 27 per produce)
Cocoa Pod - Perenial. Crops stack and do not decay.
Sugar - Non-Perenial. Crops stack and do not decay.
Beakseed - Perenial.
Coffee Beans - Perenial.

120 Pixel Buy Price (Sell for 36 per produce)
Kiwi - Non-Perenial.
Boltbulb - Non-Perenial.
Grapes - Perenial.
Banana - Perenial.
Eggshoot - Non-Perenial.

150 Pixel Buy Price (Sell for 45 per produce)
Avesimango - Perenial.

160 Pixel Buy Price (Sell for 48 per produce)
Boneboo - Perenial.
Pineapple - Non-Perenial.

180 Pixel Buy Price (Sell for 54 per produce)
Diodia - Non-Perenial.

200 Pixel Buy Price (Sell for 60 per produce)
Oculemon - Non-Perenial.

Things that help this way of revinue:
Sprinkers - Automatic watering in a seven tile range to each side of it. It requires some vertical space to work, so won't work with super-cramped farming plans.
Terramart Shipments - Once Terramart opens, you can purchase this device to greatly speed up the time between selling items to the Outpost. Extremely useful for farmers and ranchers in general.
Colonizing - Profiting Over Time
Colonizing is by far the slowest way of getting profitable, but is also the one that requires the least amount of upkeep after the initial investment is complete. After the investment however, you have a constant flow of goods (that can be sold or used) and pixels coming, as well as a quest hub under your control that makes things easier to work with.

Things that help gather more profits from your colonists:

- Building on more dangerous world types. The Barren worlds may be the safest ones to build colonies on, but they also draw from the lowest loot pool. Investing in some guard outposts and Durasteel furnishing will keep your other colonists alive on more hostile worlds that draw from better loot pools.
- Quality and quanitity help in outposts. Using strange furnishing you discover in the world- or it's pixel printed counterpart- helps massively in granting you new and unique lootpools to draw from. Frogg Furnishing's daily specials is a similar boat, offering some special townies with furniture sets from him.

It's worth mentioning for anyone who plans to amass plenty of pixels, a pixel compressor is a must-have. Pixels that you compress into voxels and store at your base don't suffer the 30% tax when you die. The pixel compressor has saved me 10's of thousands of pixels and allowed me to take a lot more risks (which is more fun!) when exploring.

Cooking farmed crops before selling them can increase your profit considerably. With a large farm you can easily fill a Terramart crate with prepared food every 10 minutes or so, and with uncommon and rare food recipes you'll clear 2-3k on every such crate you sell.
