The basic strategies I use for speedrunning vermintide level by level with videos.

Speedrunning Vermintide
1.6 changed any% routes dramatically but if you have interest in running 1.5 any% speedruns ask in the speedrun discord. [discord.gg] As it is definately the fastest patch that we have access to.

1.6 Didnt change much game wise besides some weapon balances (rip fireball hello autoaim)
just check the latest weapon values google doc [docs.google.com] for dodge distances, blocking move speed, damage, etc.

1.5 added a couple of mention worthy speed tricks.

The increased dodge distance with 1hand weapons makes dodging fractionally faster than walking. Especially around corners. Really destroying the seal of the swiftstrider.

The 100 dodge count weapons (most WW weapons n rapier) let you dodge faster than walking without jumping to reset your dodge.

Tome/Medkit block running has been removed. Making most characters have no escape besides some extremely well timed fresh dodges. Try never touching block unless forced to.

Rush intervention seems buffed. Dont activate triggers alone unless you are ready for 1-3 packmasters/gutter runners.

No levels have changed since 1.3.1, besides the addition of some big invisible walls, but any of the levels with destructables can be done much much faster. (Waterfront, Ramparts, Garden, White Rat)

This guide is more for me as a resource to show new runners, because it always seems that we are pubbing the 4th slot.

2 categories exist as of right now. Any% which we play on 1.5 and Glitchless which doesnt use skips and is played on the latest patch. If you have any interest in learning the skips and tricks in 1.5 Id really suggest joining the discord server. Link located at the top of this section.

Glitchless speedruns are on the current patch, and require completion of all events not using skips. While any% speedruns are on 1.5 at the moment because of the wall climbing tricks.

Let me start off by saying that you need abit of items and experience to speedrun effectively and the loot system atm doesnt help new runners at all. Although if you are getting tired of farming cata or even nightmare, speedrunning is a fun alternative.

Also speedrunning Vermintide is a huge investment into RNG from the maybe ogre stages, to multiple speed potion non consumes, to the dynamic spawn system.

New runners or runners without the proper trinkets dont be discouraged aslong as 1 player has the req trinket set up, even in blue it is a great way to get quick loot rolls.

---the tips

The safest way for most levels is a basic buddy system, but the problem is that no character can keep up with the waywatcher, because blocking//attacking slows most characters down.
Think of each quest as a race and 3rd and 4th place are on patrol/ogre duty and to ultimately die holding the door. (the 3rd and 4th players are referred to as "the assmen")

Speed pots are the lifeblood of the run. "the speed lottery" hand them to your potion rack//wine players!!

Once you slam your speed potion keep tapping 4 hoping for the 25% non consume proc to slam it again and again. Speed potions stack so 4+ speed pot chain is a level destroyer.

potion rack//non consume trinkets are the standard speed run req trinkets for 2 of the runners
The other runners movement speed//faster revive//faster respawn//aoe heal//non consume bomb//luck//dupe on pickup//poison.

Dodging is the most important thing you can learn. Whenever you get used to blocking a rat attack try to dodge it instead. Dodging in 1.5 can give you that bit of distance making it able to dodge every type of rat attack.

Dont be afraid to use your bomb on the herd of rats stacking behind you.

Weapons tend to be up to players choice, but the higher damage weapons will always destroy destructable quest objectives faster
1 handed weapons increase your dodge distance.
Weapon traits I use for speedrunning. Devastating Blow, Improved Pommel, Heroic Killing Blow
Anything with Dev Blow can be worthwhile and made an argument for.

If you are the 4th player close the door behind you, rats just cant seem to grasp the door knob itll buy you a good 3-5 seconds.
If you are more than 5 or 10 seconds behind the WW approaching the cart.
Kill yourself or let the rats getcha. Alot of time can be lost waiting in the cart.

Whenever someone gets jumped or grabbed by a gutter runner/pack master. Take the shot at trying to save them if they are behind. You dont need the spend the time reviving just make sure the assassin is dead. Remember that assassins teleport and as soon as that player is dead they are coming for you.

You can add grims and tomes to these runs pretty easy but im finding that it adds about 1-2 minutes. You just need to kill more rats so its best to pick about 4 places each level to meet up
and thin the herd thats tailing you. Make sure your ogre killer/assman player isnt carrying any books, or burn it down together quick with strength headshots.

Advanced Trick (if you are ever far behind you can always dc to save the run.)

Bot Porting this trick has to do with the game being private. The host of the game is the WW and will always be in the lead, the other players can disconnect to teleport the bots to another player. So if both the assmen dc the bots will teleport to the first group.
The WW says over voice once the bots have ported and everyone join backs into the game.
Bots also will teleport to every player check so If you are far behind to one dc/reconnect.


act 1

Horn of magnus has alot of standing rats, a 50/50 ogre, 3 player checks, and 1 or 2 patrols.
We use the basic 2n2 strat for ogre/patrols leaving the ww and whoever is in 2nd to just further the stage.
The barrel event can be super smooth with 2 bombs.
The big time loss can happen at the elevator up if all players are not on the elevator up or dead/disconnected you can stand for awhile. (Not Down DEAD DEAD)
The end event is also another player check (so drop in quick) and can last anywhere from 3-5 minutes
The elevator down is the last super easy player check.

Very short and straightforward level a couple jumps paths can cut some time (from the little ledge to the 2nd tome, and ontop all the tents)
Run the usual 2n2 for the ogre//patrols.
No player check so the 2 leading players can start the end event, and finish it before the 2 assmen even catch up.
The end event has a couple differnt bag spawns, 1 of the bag spawns is extremely faster than the rest. (1 bag is right by the entrance 1 on the top right side.
only leaving 3 bags to collect.)
Jumping and dodging when you land is the fastest way to move while carrying a bag aslong as you dont mess up.

Patrols and ogres tend to show up early just make sure you dont fight on that dam spiral staircase.
The usual 2n2 strat works wonders.
The WW needs to get to the door event to cut the rope as quick as possible.
If you are 4th CLOSE THE DOOR!!
The end event is NOT a player check so start it up as soon as you can if you are first. Alot of time surviving to catch up before you even have to protect the wards.
Not sure if you can speed the end event up or not by keeping multiple wards alive.

This level is all about positioning and RNG.
Ogre is on a 2:30 or 3 minute timer so it can cause alot of time loss. If the run goes that long have one of the players whos barrels are already in start kiting him like a boss til the run is done.
The positions left side boat, right side, top, and back.
Top is in charge of throwing barrels down to the right side or boat player to cash in standing near the spawns, once x2 barrels are in move to the back to run the doubles.
Left side boat is in charge of the 1 barrel that spawns inside the room with the breakable door on top left, after that 1 barrel is in he moves up to the mid to catch barrels.
Right side is in charge of 2 barrels, the one just up the ladder on the right and the barrel that spawns right in the center of the stage.
Back is in charge of three barrels but will get help with the double. just needs to camp the furthest barrel and be ready call for help on doubles.
Once the barrels you are in charge of are in move to a path between your mate and the boat, because throwing barrels is always faster than walking.


smugglers run [www.speedrun.com]
We abandon the 2n2 and go 1 n 3 for this run, as long as the WW can juke and get to the rope to cut it for each door without getting grabbed.
The elf show commences just try to help her along as quick as possible to each rope/door event.
The rest of the players collect items and kill SV patrols/Ogre,
speed pots, bombs, health anything to give to the WW to help her reach the next rope or wagon.
You can also use the small elevations on the ground to early jump the doors.

We couldnt even get close to this record time even with 3 or 4 speed pots. idk
Im pretty sure it comes down to RNG at the end event paths. A bad zig zag pattern in the caves can upset the run.

The usual 2n2 for ogre/patrols.
You can slide down the cliff without taking fall damage.
Try to carry the barrels as little as possible, just keep throwing them towards the machines. allows for no accidental ff barrel lighting, and alot less chance you eat a sneaky stick.
Also allows all 3 barrels to be moved at the same time.
You can jump ontop the log and over the fence to cut a corner of the stage.
The end event has no player check so the first player there rings and claims his victory.

Lots of small skips this level (dropping down out the window at the start, making the grave jumps)
The basic 2n2 works wonders, except that SV patrols often get stuck in the small hallways so the 1st group might need to kill a SV patrol.
DLC weapons work wonders send solo to each pillar. Hug the wall n drop off the ledge after each destruction to negate fall damage n give you time to regroup as the rats path back down.

Be quick to the first elevator player check.
Tons of speed pot spawns, tons of SV, tons of clan rats, and tons of bombs.
Hope you win the speed lottery 3x - 5x speed.
Split the end event send dlc weapons with str to 1 shot the pillars making for a quick escape.
You dont have any real time to kill rats so bomb bomb bomb or shoot n move. standing still will get you surrounded in seconds.
Dodging removes the slow from falling.
If you fall from the top and manage to catch the ladder you will not take any fall damage.


wheat and chaff [www.speedrun.com] The best speed level.
Jumping and dodging while carrying a bag is the fastest way to move with a bag unless you mess it up.
Another 4 position map: positions (back juggler, back, ladder, break house)
Back juggler and back race to the back of the map and grab those two bags and move up to the ladder position
Ladder tosses the two bags down and grabs 1 and races toward the carraige
Back never drops his bag and just races towards the carraige
Back juggler starts juggling the 2nd bag thrown down by the ladder and the bag from the back moving them towards the carraige and killing rats.
Break house does his thing collects both the bags from the house shutting the doors, juking, and grabbing the bag thru the floor.
Break house starts juggling towards the carraige after getting them outta the break house.
once ladder and back have the bags in 1 goes to help break house 1 goes to help back juggler grab the bags and all go in.
Ogre spawns around 3 minutes but if the run goes that long somethings went very very wrong.

2n2 for each event. We do the barrel toss event first. All barrels can thrown right into place without throwing them onto the ground.
The other 2 players collect str, speed, and bombs.
Get into position just as the 1st building collapses you can start the 2nd.
Send DLC weapons into the destruction house n the pillars will be down in moments.
You can jump from the starting position in the pillar room to a ledge on the left onto the top floor to get to the 2nd pillar without falling.
Proc the next quest advancement as quick as possible

Collect items and let the first well die.
Focus on where the rats are spawning from and keep raining pain down.
Kill the ogre quick cut down on all the ogretime.
Try to ranged protect the last protect event so you can be right beside the door when it opens.
act 3

3 differnt phases
Phase 1 WW charges at the rope the rest of the players focus on killing SV moving towards the door.
Phase 2 1 speed pot in the chest 1 speed pot behind you when you reach the top of the stairs and run the barrels right away.
Throw the barrels as often as you can if no speeds.
Phase 3 Split DLC weapon users to destroy the back pillars. Other 2 players focus on rats n getting the close pillars down together.
1 player goes straight to the furthest back chain so not to get get body blocked.
No ogre if the run last less than 4 min.

yah in my testing its really apparent in longer stages like wiz tower getting to the first rope, or engines of war getting 1 person to start the end event. Im not sure if it just substitues the normal special spawns for all assassins, or if it is a whole differnt spawn, but have seen runs that have 6 or so packmaster/gutter runners trying to catch up. It doesnt seem to effect the small stages about at all.

Double or triple assassin spawns if 1 character breaks the other 3 players radius/LOS. This seems to be something that is only apparent to people who speed run but it is definitely true.

Okay you explained everything i wanted to know, so thanks a lot for that. And normally i like finding glitches that allow me to explore more of the maps or complete them faster. My friends know some of them, but i hope nobody else will find it. Would like to have it in game for as long as i play lol.
