Also available via Gamersgate, Direct2Drive and perhaps later we can hope to see it in other services and unwrapped from any DRM. No, it does not have DRM but Steam is considered one to the eyes of many. That's why.

As if I care, A SHOOTER, A SCHMUKMUP EXCLUSIVELY ANNOUNCED FOR PC. I mean, this was too much to let it pass seeing how everything is going the way of the console and I'm an ancient dinosaur on a Cadillac, working on my PC all day long so what little time I have to spend on games, it obviously goes to the PC.

Ok, back to Jamestown. What can I say... The graphics are glorious. A great mixture of what looks like Metal Slug combined with DoDonPachi, touches of Takumi games, music that looks like a "serious business" Psyvariar 2 (less hardcore techno punchi punchi, still with touches of electronica here and there but gearing towards the serious orchestral/rockish overtones, pretty nice) and so much screen space that you really need at least someone else to play it.

Mechanics wise, Jamestown is pretty straightforward when compared to some of the trickiest CAVE releases. You have a "Vaunt" mode that increases difficulty/firepower for bigger scores and it can be automatically disable to obtain a bullet canceling aura or it will stop by itself if you let the timer/chain run out. You also get a shield when triggering Vaunt, pretty much like the reflect barrier of Gigawing or Mars Matrix (note: go play Mars Matrix) so use that to your advantage because here there are no saving bombs.

And thus you rack up scores like mad by strategically using Vaunt and destroying some enemies in a certain fashion (picking up their parts first, going for the core, killing the small drill when they jump to the air, etc.) as well as keeping the chain on by catching the golden gears. It works like wonders with 2-4 people. The game is really designed for that rather than solo.

Difficulty wise, I was playing in Divine mode, which is fairly challenging. There is another one, harder, called Judgment which I guess is ridiculously hard.

What can I say? This is mana falling from the sky for the poor PC user. A must buy. However, as much as I want to recommend it with even more passion, the game is designed for 4 players coordinating their actions. Too much stuff going on for only one person to keep up, the screen size is huge so going from left to right takes a bit longer... But it's a small thing. Game is awesome!
