Eldar fleet guide - Stealth Starcannons
By Nark
I'm writing up this guide for the Eldar players out there that are sick of using nothing but Pulsar builds or Carrier builds.

I've picked up the Eldar and found that Pulsars are a little too strong at the moment and constantly kiting with Carriers wasn't really my play style either.

I decided to look at the other type of Weaponary the Eldar have which is the Starcannons - Most people were saying their useless against anything apart from Mirror matches but I've found a very effective build that uses the most underused Cruiser in the game (The Shadow) and Stealth + Saim-Hann to setup attacks and keep the enemy from detecting you while you dish out the pain.

Individual Ship builds
So the main ship we are going to be basing this around is the Shadow but you can also add in a couple of different ships for additional support if you wish.

I'll list out the ships I use and their builds below and then further down we'll get into different Fleet comps and the general way to use them.

Light Cruiser
Solaris

Favour
Saim-Hann

Skills
Auger Probe or Stationary Probe (I usually use one of each)

Upgrades
1st Accelerated Batteries - +3K Range to your Starcannons
2nd Void Blending - Increase Stealth Duration
3rd Either Vigilant Spirit Stones (+2500 to your detection) or Effecient Pilots (for more damage from bombers)
4th is which ever you didn't choose for 3rd
5th Is personal preference, for a little more damage Targeting past 6K can help (only 7.5 percent accuracy increase though), Dragon Sail for more speed or Phoenix Sail so you dont slow to a crawl when engines get damage.
Alot could work though so choose what you like.

Crew
Master Gunner -> Squad Sergeant -> Spirit stones

Cruiser
Shadow

Favour
Saim-Hann

Skills
On every Shadow I take Augur Distruptor as this will keep you alive and with the Distruptor from Saim-Hann you can keep ships in the dark for a very long time
Second Skill I pick up is Stasis bomb on 2 of them to give you breathing room to escape or keep the enemy at 9K.
Other 1 Will be Stationary Probe

Upgrades
1st Accelerated Batteries - +3K Range to your Starcannons
2nd Void Blending - Increase Stealth Duration
3rd Vigilant Spirit Stones is a good choice or if you want more protection Extra Turrets can be helpful as well
4th Dragon Sail can be good for extra speed when getting away or Phoenix Sail to keep you mobile if your engines get taken out.
5th is personal preference again.

Crew
Master Gunner -> Spirit Stones -> Either repair or Troop Value

Battle Cruiser - I don't use this but if you wanted a little more punch with some Pulsars it could help but I dont not use it in my fleets so I'm going to leave it out.

Battleship - Same as BC
The Fleet Compositions
So there is a couple of different ways to run this fleet setup and all work quite well.

I'll explain the different Fleet comps for 600 + 700pt battles and then get into the details of how to setup the ships in the next Section.

3x Shadow, 1x Solaris + Escorts

This has the Solaris for the Extra scouting and damage, can also stick to using fighters with it to provide support but they will show up even if you're stealth which will let the enemy know where you are, but this can also be used to divert the enemies attention. I usually just stick them on Auto cast for bombers and send it off on its own to scout and add a little extra burst DPS with bombers.

2x Shadow, 3x Solaris

This is a effective setup I've had a lot of success with. Split up the shadows and Solaris into seperate groups, use the solaris to scout and do bombing runs as an inital attack while the Shadows use stealth and attack from the back hitting any small escorts or Light cruisers that are left seperated from the group.

700pts - Usage is the same as above
3x Shadow, 2x Solaris + Escorts

2x Shadow, 4x Solaris
How it works...
During the Deployment phase turn off the "Keep target" (I forget what its called) option which makes it so you move while still having a target selected, this might just be personal preference but I find it more a hassle than a benefit.
Change your Engagment range for all ships to 9k.
I usually have Silent Running, Lightning Strike, bombers and repair set to auto cast but thats personal preference once again.

So the way this fleet works is using Silent running when ever off Cooldown to get yourself into a good position to strike at specific targets.

With Void blending you can make it from 1 side of the map to the other boosting all the way before your silent running runs out.

For best usage make you way down about 1/4 -> 1/2 of the map shooting torpedoes the whole way. When you get to 1/4 -> 1/2 way down the map (preferably inside a gas cloud) turn on silent running and change the direction you are heading and boost every chance you have in that direction so the enemy doesn't know where you are, once you are closer to the enemy (around 12k) use your probes to find out what is on the outter part of their formation and also to see what priority targets there are.

Right click on them so your ships move into range and start firing.
If the enemy starts getting close to being able to detect you either use the Saim-Hann distrupt if its just one target or if there is multiple use Augur Disruptor to take out all of their sensors.

With Saim-Hann you will be doing 50% more damage while not detected. I've seen a lot of different oppinions on how this works but from my experience as long as you're not detected you get a 50% bonus to your damage which is huge. Even without the damage bonus the ability to keep the enemy sensor screwed is amazing.

Once they start closing turn your fleet away and burn off, when you get detected just keep your distance until you are either undetected again if Silent running is still up or until silent running is off CD.

Keep on doing this and try to always focus the ship on the outter most part of their formation - you will shred escorts very quickly so if there is one in a vunrable position, just take it out and back away again then come back for the next target.

One thing you must learn is checking the enemies for priority targets e.g Nova Cannons, or ships with a high detection radius. and try to manipulate the enemy into leaving them in a bad position so you can come in from behind and start to shred them.

The End...
This is the first guide I've written so sorry if its a little ♥♥♥♥ but I wanted to share a different way to play Eldar which I'm really enjoying.

People will still cry when you win even though you're not using Pulsars because they don't know how to play against Eldar and haven't designed any ships to deal with them effectively but thats just people for you.

If you have any questions feel free to leave them below or follow me at www.twitch.tv/th3nark to watch me playing this build and others live.

I really appreciate your different approach. My kudos :steamhappy:
This build is especially effective vs. other Eldar players. I would, however, consider using Shadow Vault Patterns instead - for even more bombing harassment. :steamsalty:

very funny fit, in addition i can say i used 1 shadow with Ulthwe+stasis (void blending upg is enough to stay cloaked) and i can say that 2-3 stationary probes (prepare uranus shieldless eldars!) counters this build perfectly ;)

You could, but TBH it makes it too easy, and with the rework that's coming they are going to... you know... nerf pulsars.
Treefrog 28 May, 2016 @ 5:04pm
or you could just...you know...use pulsars.
