Introduction
This guide is designed to provide players of all ability an overview of Ronso Rage (Blue Magic) in Final Fantasy X (FFX).

The guide begins with defining what Blue Magic is, followed by how it can be obtained using the playable character Kimahri Ronso. This guide concludes with a glossary of each Blue Magic spell, and where appropriate, the enemy needed to obtain each spell. This glossary also provides the locations and pictures of specific fiends.

Because there are several methods to obtaining each Blue Magic Spell, this guide attempts to focus on those relevant to new and end game users. As such, the tips within this guide indicate where to obtain all Blue Magic spells at either point in the game.

***This does not necessarily mean that it will be the easiest fiend to defeat***
Blue Magic
Blue Magic, commonly called Blu Mag, Enemy Skill, Blue (etc), is a skillet of abilities distributed throughout the Final Fantasy franchise. This guide focuses specifically upon the Blue Magic in FFX, Ronso Rage.

Ronso Rage:
Ronso Rage is a unique style of Blue Magic used by the character Kimahri Ronso. This form of Blue Magic may be used when Kimahri reaches Overdrive in Final Fantasy X.

Upon obtaining Kimahri, he will immediately have Jump (see glossary) as a starting form of Blue Magic. In order to obtain Blue Magic spells you must use Kimahri’s Lancet (see Kimahri Ronso; and image below) ability on the appropriate enemies. Successfully using Lancet on a specific fiend will allow Kimahri to learn new Blue Magic.

Tips:
  • During the boss battle (Biran and Yenke) on top of Mt. Gagezet, Kimahri can learn almost all of the Ronso Rage abilities.
  • Learning all of Kimahri's Blue Magic in the Final Fantasy X HD Remastered version earns the Steam achievement "Learning!".

Kimahri Ronso
Kimahri Ronso is introduced in FFX as a member of the Ronso tribe. While taller than humans, he is smaller than the average Ronso. Unlike other Ronso, Kimahri has a broken horn, which serves as a distinguishing characteristic. Similar to characters such as Quistis (FFVIII) and Quina (FFIX), Kimahri can be considered a Blue Mage.

Lancet Command:
Like all Ronso, Kimahri has a Lancet ability, which grants him the power to obtain various enemy skills throughout the game. These skills can then be used in overdrive throughout the game. Gaining a new enemy skill fills up Kimahri’s overdrive bar instantly. Kimahri automatically starts with the ability Jump (see Glossary).

Specifically, Lancet is an ability in Final Fantasy X that allows characters to absorb HP and MP from their opponents. If Kimahri uses this ability on certain fiends (see Glossary), he will have a chance to learn a new Ronso Rage (see video below). Similar to other spells such as Drain, Lancet does damage to its user if it is used on a fiend who is undead or zombie status. The damage that lancet causes is not considered physical or magical, but rather falls into its own “special” category. Lancet is not influenced by the spells Protect or Shell.

Ronso Rage Demonstration:
The video below provides a brief demonstration of all Blue Magic spells cast by Ronso Kimahri.

Frequently Asked Questions (F.A.Q.)
Q: Is it possible to miss a Blue Magic Spell and not be able to obtain it later?
A: No, you can have a slight delay in obtaining Supernova if you do not obtain it from Omega Weapon in the Omega Ruins, however you can obtain it from the Nemesis in the monster area later.

Q: Which Ronso Rage abilities can Kimari learn off of Biran and Yenkey when you fight them?
A: Aqua Breath, Fire Breath, Thrust Kick, Mighty Guard, White Wind, Doom, Stone Breath and Self-Destruct. But if you have already defeated them you can always go back and get them from the original fiends.

Q: Are some of Kimahri’s Ronso Rage abilities affected by magic stat?
A: Yes. Some of Kimarhi's overdrives use a magic based formula and are effected by the magic and magic defense stats such as Fire Breath.

Should add a note to both Mighty Guard and White Wind for the Mt Gagazet boss fight. They can only be learned after the boss uses the skill so try not to kill them too quickly or you will miss them.

This guide is appreciated; I couldn't for the life of me remember Bad Breath was an option, and thus the one that I was missing - but if I could make a recommendation, you might consider re-ordering the abilities to the order in which they appear on the Ronso Rage list/menu; the current setup is kind-of-sort-of in order, but not really - it just out of order in several places. Just food for thought - it'd make it easier to peruse and find what one is looking for :)

Thanks again for making this.

In Final Fantasy X there are no missable Blue Magic spells. However if you want to save yourself a big headache make sure to get Nova from omega weapon before you kill him. Otherwise you will have to wait to fight nemeses in the monster arena.
Tallcat 13 May, 2016 @ 11:35am
Any way you can make a short list of all the missable spells?

Thank you for your comments. I have made the edits. :happymeat:

You've used Rosno instead of Ronso a few times, twice in the Index and once in the Kimahri Ronso section. Additionally Khimari is actually a PC in X, it's X-2 where he's an NPC. Other than that excellent guide. Though personally I'll be keeping my old piggyback guide on hand so I don't have to keep leaving the game to check things.
