Getting started
Hey guy!

Why don't you just sit back, relax and let me tell you about the wonders of the Dark Souls meta.
Let's get started!

For PvP you're obviously going to need a build. Now it's very important that you don't just start building on your own, that'd be fun and experimental, so obviously we don't want that. Read articles or guides to get some good prefabricated builds to start your PvP adventure.

Generally what you're looking for is a dexterity build. Add some magic on the side for a good weapon buff to get as much power out of your swings as possible.

For armor you're gonna need as much poise as possible whilst still being able to fastroll. Of course you'll also need a weapon. The best weapons are thrusting swords and straight swords, so get the most powerful one you can find and upgrade it as much as you can. Your shield will obviously be the grass crest shield because Fromsoft put it back in the game unchanged for some reason. A real pro could also take a buckler for those really difficult instant parries. New players shouldn't try this though as it requires the press of a whole extra button.

All right! Now that you're a fully fledged ♥♥♥♥♥♥ warrior, it's time to get onto playstyle.
Playstyle
The key to being a succesful fighter in the PvP scene is this:

First, locate the right shoulder button on your gamepad of choice (no gamepad? Don't bother).

Now try pressing it. If done correctly your character should swing his/her weapon.

Now comes the tricky part: you'll have to press it multiple times in a quick fashion. While doing this be careful not to accidentally push the right trigger, it'll still swing but much slower (useless, clearly). Be sure to practise this a few times before going into a match. Also make sure to use plenty of sippies if you ever get low on life (especially when you've both bowed, wouldn't want to lose in an honorable duel!), there's barely any consequence so chug away.

Looks like you're ready to go slay some unkindled, go get 'em champ!
Conclusion
After reading this guide you should be ready for the wonderful world of Dark Souls PvP. Have fun fighting other players for a whole week until you inevitably get bored. Also, if you ever feel bad for some reason, remember: it's not your fault that the From devs are incompetent.

Happy hunting, scrubs!

Don't be a dirty casul, so for the love god, just git gud.

@Thegreenman I'd recommend just not getting into pvp at all, DkSIII pvp is so fucked that it's just not worth spending time on plus the fact that the playerbase will probably be dead soon (if it's not already). If you still want to learn, just go do some pvp man. Nobody can really tell you how to 'git gud', just grab a quality build and try out some different weapons. You'll probably lose a lot because the meta is so gimmick-based right now, that doesn't matter though. Just practise dodging and knowing when to attack without trying to parry all the time, start recognising patterns etc.. Also watching videos or streams always helps you get a general idea of what you should be doing.

I like that you at least took the time to write a few paragraphs unlike most joke guides.

hey man good stuff:) quick question tho; im from an older generation so i might just be outta the loop.. so the word casul-I get it.. I know how ya'll pronounce it.. everybody spells it like this-"casul" .. but the actual word is "casual"... is this word different from casul? which to me, looks like (kasool) but its spelled the way u spell it in every forum.. is this just a collective misspelling on a grand scale? or supposed to be like this? thanks..
