Introduction
This guide gives an overview of the different types of troops available in Avalon Lords: Dawn Rises.

Following the description of each unit type, a statistics box appears. Below is a basic explanation of what the stats mean:
  • Health: Unit's maximum Health. Note this applies to the squad as a whole, not the individual members within it.
  • Defense: Amount of damage the unit takes from a specific damage type. For example, if the unit has 90% (melee) listed, then was hit for 10 melee damage, they would take 9 points of damage. Thus, lower percentage numbers are better.
  • Damage: Amount of damage and the type
  • Speed: Unit's ground movement speed
  • Resources: Resource cost to spawn the unit
  • Time: Amount of time it takes the unit to spawn once added to the queue
  • Population Cost: Amount of Population it costs to spawn the unit
  • Army Builder Cost: Point value of the unit in Army Builder

Note these are the base numbers which can be modified through player and/or game interaction.
Melee Units
The armies of Avalon have many close-quarter general units at their disposal. Swordsmen, Veteran Swordsmen and Pikemen form the backbone of any army in Avalon, engaging an opposing Lord's forces in close combat, and even preventing them from attacking at range. These brave men vary in purpose and strength, but their effective use will win many battles and new lands for the Lords they serve. All melee units are recruited in the Barracks, except the Peasant, which is recruited in the TownHall/Castle.

Swordsmen
Swordsmen are the classic footsoldier and most basic of the combat units. Trained at the barracks, these Swordsmen are cheap to train and equip, sturdy enough to handle front line combat, and numerous enough to make up the bulk of most forces. While skilled in basic combat and easy to recruit in large numbers, they are vulnerable to Cavalry Units.

Ranged Units
The armies of Avalon have many ranged general units at their disposal. Lords and Ladies of Avalon may choose to train a force entirely made up of units who specialize in long range assault with weapons such as the Bow, Longbow and Crossbow. These vary in their maximum range and the amount of damage they cause to an enemy, so a wise leader will learn their troop's capabilities and practice tactics in smaller-scale skirmishes. All ranged units are recruited at the Archery Range.

Shortbow Archer
These short range, fast firing archers providing close range archery support for frontline forces. They are particularly vulnerable to Melee Units.

Their immense range allows them to create openings for an infantry push from the safety of great distances. They are vulnerable to Melee Units.

Siege Units
The armies of Avalon have many general siege units at their disposal. These are some of the most powerful weapons available to the Lords and Ladies of Avalon, with incredibly long range and the power to breach both wooden and stone walls alike. Ballistae, Catapults and Trebuchets will make up the bulk of a siege force, and defending these weapons is essential as they destroy enemy walls to allow your forces room to advance. All siege units are recruited at the Siege Workshop.

Ballista
The most basic of siege weaponry, the ballista launches several large bolts into oncoming enemy soldiers, making it an effective way to weaken enemy front lines. These accurate, fast firing siege machines are moderately useful at damaging Buildings, and are especially good at countering other Siege Units. They are vulnerable to both Infantry and Cavalry Units.

These weapons can be used to destroy Buildings and Units alike. They are vulnerable to both Infantry and Cavalry Units.

Trebuchet
This is the strongest siege weapon technology available, and a most fearful weapon on the battlefield. What a catapult lacks in range the Trebuchet can easily surpass, launching a hail of rocks into the air over great distances and raining destruction upon the enemy's structures. They are vulnerable to both Infantry and Cavalry Units, but their range gives them an advantage over other Siege Units.
