SM.79 "Sparviero" (w/ Bomb Sight)

Weapon Mapping:

Top slot is dedicated to the primary weapon and fires from two points under the wings. The right slot is intended for the machine gun, and is mounted on the top of the airplane where the cannon is on the model. The bottom slot is meant for bombs, and has two drop points in the center of the plane. The left slot can be used for any weapon.

Rather than having a standard cockpit view, I chose to put the cockpit in the bombers position. The sights are set so that the red marker indicates where the bomb will fall at max throttle on level pitch and the blue marker for neutral throttle and level pitch.

History:

Originally designed as a fast passenger aircraft, the SM.79 Sparviero gained 26 world records between 1937 and 1939 which qualified it for some time as the fastest medium bomber in the world. It first saw action during the Spanish Civil War, but later gained fame and achieved many successes as a torpedo bomber in the Mediterranean theater of WW II. The SM.79 was an outstanding aircraft and was certainly the best-known Italian airplane of World War II
