Getting Started
Identifying Missing Recipes

You may have started reading this guide for a visual cue of what recipes you could be missing still and wish to start by identifying which ones you are actually missing. We all have to start somewhere in taking up farming as a long-term career!

Below is the entire cookbook in all its glory, in the correct order as viewed in your kitchen.

In the same order by name:

Learning Every Recipe
Now we'll move on with the guide to clarify the exact prerequisites for learning and unlocking every recipe in the game. There are a total of 71 recipes currently implemented.

There are three general ways that a recipe can be learned:
  • The television's Cooking Channel - The Queen of Sauce. (31)
  • Villagers teaching you when you have gained enough Affection for them. (33)
  • By default or meeting certain specific criteria to learn them. (8)

Alternatively to the normal ways of learning recipes, The Saloon can also sell 7 specific recipes:

  • It gives a whopping +4 to your Fishing skill, for 3 minutes and 30 seconds.
  • It takes 1 Flounder, 1 Midnight Carp and 1 Squid Ink to make the item from the recipe.
The Queen of Sauce Recipes
Also known as the Cooking Channel
These recipes are taught to you by turning on your television and selecting The Queen of Sauce. You will only see this option on Wednesdays and Sundays. Every Sunday for the first two years of gameplay she will reveal a specific new recipe. After two years, she starts over from the very first recipe and repeats this cycle every two years. On Wednesdays you get a random re-run of a recipe that has already been shown at least once during that cycle.

In short, if you're missing one of the recipes from the Cooking Channel, you need only watch the show on the correct Sunday.

  • Recipes listed as Year 1 will show every odd year after that, e.g. Year 3, 5, 7 and so on.
  • Recipes listed as Year 2 will show every even year after that, e.g. Year 4, 6, 8 and so on.

Villager Friendship Recipes

This group contains recipes that are unlocked by going to sleep while having a certain minimum amount of Affection for specific villagers, then checking your mailbox when you wake up to learn them in a letter from said villagers.

Around the time of certain special events, festivals or conditions the letter may take a day or two extra to show up in the mailbox. The list this time is in the order of villager's names alphabetically.

Tips:
  • Marriageable candidates do not give any recipes! Use this to your advantage.

  • Completing the Bulletin Board bundles for the Community Center may be quite a task, but massively boosts Affection with all non-marriageable villagers.

  • Regarding a character you may not be able to find: Kent returns to Pelican Town at the beginning of Year 2.
Note:
  • Willy's 9-heart recipe, Lobster Bisque does not always reliably show up in the mailbox and may have something to do with an internal conflict for this being the only villager affection recipe that is also learned by watching The Queen of Sauce on Winter 14th of an even year. This seems to be the only recipe that can be learned by both methods however.

Efficient Boosting of Villager's Affection
The most important thing to note is to never miss gifting them on their birthday, with a gift that they love. Here I will list the most recommended 'Love' item, 'Like' item and as well their birthdays.

Make sure you talk to the villager first, then gift them as sometimes gifting them first will prevent the boost to the affection value when talking from increasing as it should. You can gift each villager 2 times per week, and talk to them 7 times per week. You can also get a quest from a villager at random on Pierre's bulletin outside his shop and that will give quite a nice boost per quest turned in for the person that posted the quest.

Special Condition Recipes

There are only a handful (7) of these unique conditional recipes, though they are still fairly straightforward to learn.

The first recipe here is learned from the very beginning of the game by default. There are no conditions to learn it.
Fried Egg

The second recipe is quite unique in that you not only have to reach a 4-heart affection value with Evelyn but you then also have to visit her at her house to trigger the event that she is baking cookies and asks you to try them to see how you like them. You must compliment her cookies and she will then teach you the recipe for making them yourself.

The remaining recipes are learned by going to sleep and reaching a certain level for each of the five main skills in the game. Farming; Foraging; Fishing; Mining and Combat. They are instantly learned the moment the game displays such during the level up screen.

Cooking Achievements

By going for the Gourmet Chef achievement you will have unlocked at least these six achievements. The first three you unlock from simply acquiring every recipe and cooking them at least once each.

For the social achievements you will likely have indirectly unlocked most of the 5 and 8 Heart achievements. Definitely these three however.
The Cooking Channel Dialogue
These dialogues are from the in-game cooking channel, The Queen of Sauce. They were acquired from the game's files personally. I will add the dates that they can be viewed here too, for convenience.

Odd Years (1, 3, 5 and so on)
Sunday, Spring 7th - Stir Fry
Stir Fry! It's a perfect way to get some healthy greens on your plate. Sautee the greens in a little sesame oil and make sure to add plenty of fresh ginger and garlic. Now breathe deeply... Oh, that's good.

Sunday, Spring 14th - Coleslaw
Coleslaw! Envisioning bland mounds of limp cabbage? You're not alone. But a great coleslaw can be so much more. Make sure you have juicy fresh cabbage for this one. Toss with a little vinegar and mayonnaise and you're all set. Ah, that's crisp.

Sunday, Spring 21st - Radish Salad
Radish Salad! There's nothing like a fresh, peppery radish. It reminds me of the late spring... my mother would slice up our fresh radishes and serve them on grainy bread with a little salt and pepper. Ah, those were the days... but I digress. Now, watch closely...

Sunday, Spring 28th - Omelet
Omelet! This is such a simple dish, but so often done incorrectly! A perfect omelet is a thing of beauty. It's a pure golden angel of gleaming egg, and I'm going to show you my secret method...

Sunday, Summer 7th - Baked Fish
Baked Fish! Whenever I make this one at home, my two cats go bananas. I need a second chef around just to keep them from hopping on the counter for a bite! Just make sure the fish is fresh, preferably caught with your own rod! Now watch as I place the fish on a bed of spring greens...

Sunday, Summer 14th - Pancakes
Pancakes! Sometimes I get carried away with fancy, complicated dishes... but there's something comforting about a simple pancake. You'll want plenty of butter and maple syrup to slather over these warm stacks... mmmm....

Sunday, Summer 21st - Maki Roll
Maki Roll! The delicate flavor of the ocean, sealed within a pillowy cloud of rice. Maybe a bit of wasabi for the adventurous. My mouth is watering as we speak. Oh, how I love sushi...

Sunday, Summer 28th - Bread
Bread! Breadmaking can be a very complex form of art, but I'll make it simple for you. The most important ingredient is flour, of course. But before we create the dough we'll need to activate our yeast. They prefer warm water and little something to feed on. I use plain sugar, but honey or maple syrup will do!

Sunday, Fall 7th - Tortilla
Tortillas! How many of you are gnawing on a microwaved convenience-burrito while watching this program? Shame on you! You might as well wrap your beans in an old wash rag. Now, listen up. Once you've tried my fresh, rustic corn tortillas you'll never go back...

Sunday, Fall 14th - Trout Soup
Trout Soup! There's something about fresh-caught trout that just gets me buzzing. Maybe it's the subtle taste of the river. At any rate, I've got a wonderful trout soup recipe to share with you today...

Sunday, Fall 21st - Glazed Yams
Glazed Yams! It's yam season, and what better way to enjoy these delightful tubers than by slathering them in a sweet, sticky glaze? You'll need a nice, ripe yam and a whole bunch of sugar. Now, here's how you do it...

Sunday, Fall 28th - Artichoke Dip
Artichoke Dip! This is a delightful way to get more artichokes into your body. Personally, I don't even dip anything in there. I just guzzle the sauce down like it's a milkshake. Delicious.

Sunday, Winter 7th - Plum Pudding
Plum Pudding! Little Jack Horner is chomping at the bit for this ooey-gooey delight. And who can blame him? The plums are floral and sweet, with just the right amount of tartness to fully activate every last one of your eager taste buds. You'll just have to try it and see for yourself...

Sunday, Winter 14th - Chocolate Cake
Chocolate Cake! What better way to spend these cold winter nights than digging your way through a rich chocolate mountain? With my help, you'll be well on your way to creating the finest cake you've ever laid eyes on. Now, you're going to need a lot of sugar...

Sunday, Winter 21st - Pumpkin Pie
Pumpkin Pie! In my house, it's a tradition to eat pumpkin pie during the feast of the winter star. The season just isn't complete without that wonderful flavor you can only achieve with the finest farm-fresh pumpkins. A little nutmeg, cinnamon, and clove will sweep you off to a land of crimson and gold...

Sunday, Winter 28th - Cranberry Candy
Cranberry Candy! Here's a fun one to help you celebrate the new year. Cranberries are quite bitter on their own, but submerge them in an ocean of sugar they'll taste like angel's tears. Here's how you do it...
Even Years (2, 4, 6 and so on)
Sunday, Spring 7th - Pizza
Pizza! There's a reason pizza is a timeless culinary classic. You've got an artisan golden-brwn crust, you've got a tangy, garlic-infused marinara sauce, and you're topping it all with a mouth-watering three-cheese blend. And we're just getting started! Let's throw some fresh pepper and tomato on the top. Oh, my!

Sunday, Spring 14th - Hashbrowns
Hashbrowns! This one's simple, but that's a good thing! You'll just want to shred some potatoes, add a liberal amount of salt, and fry to perfection in your favorite high-heat oil. Sounds easy, right? Well, I've got some pointers that'll make your job a lot easier...

Sunday, Spring 21st - Complete Breakfast
Complete Breakfast! Last week I taught you how to make hashbrowns. This week I'll show you how to combine them with other ingredients to create a hearty complete breakfast. This meal will really fill you up and give you the energy you need to get in a hard day's work.

Sunday, Spring 28th - Lucky Lunch
Lucky Lunch! An old legend has it that this meal is irresistable to spirits of luck and fortune. After consuming it, you're likely to attract a good spirit into your belly, where it will bless you with good fortune until the meal is digested! Sounds weird, huh? I can't say I believe it, but the meal is delicious nonetheless!

Sunday, Summer 7th - Carp Surprise
Hey, ever have a bunch of carp laying around and no idea what to do with them? Yeah, me too. Well, I've devised a great solution to this all-too-common problem. I call it... Carp surprise. It's quite easy to make, but you'll need a lot of carp...

Sunday, Summer 14th - Maple Bar
Maple Bars! Ever notice how the maple bars are always first to disappear from the doughnut box? Perplexing, because your average maple bar tastes like a sweet hockey puck. Agree? Well, just wait until you try my recipe. You can really taste the forest in these bars. Okay, you're going to need real, quality maple syrup...

Sunday, Summer 21st - Pink Cake
A viewer from Pelican Town wrote to me recently... let's see... Her name's Haley. She wrote, 'I tried your pink cake last time I was in Zuzu City and I fell in love with it. Could you share the recipe on your next episode?'. Well, why not? It's a marvelous cake. And you'll never guess the secret ingredient... melon!

Sunday, Summer 28th - Roasted Hazelnuts
Roasted Hazelnuts! I've got a nice old hazelnut tree behind my house, and every year I invite the family over for a nut roasting party! Once we start roasting, it's inevitable that the neighbors will show up. That rich, nutty smell is irresistable. Now, here's the family recipe...

Sunday, Fall 7th - Fruit Salad
Fruit Salad! Here's a healthy and delicious treat to brighten up your day. The most important thing to remember is that you need ripe fruit. Forget the bland stuff they sell at the supermarket... I'm talking fresh-picked, juicy, bursting-with-flavor fruit. Okay, now watch closely...

Sunday, Fall 14th - Blackberry Cobbler
Blackberry Cobbler! This one always reminds me of Stardew Valley. There's a few days in fall where the valley is overflowing with the most delicious blackberries I've ever tasted. If you can get your hands on some, I'd highly recommend them for this simple cobbler.

Sunday, Fall 21st - Crab Cakes
Crab Cakes! Crab meat is very flimsy on its own, but mixing it with bread crumbs and egg is a great way to give them some body. That's why these cakes are my favorite way to eat crab! But before you go cracking any shells, stay stuned for my essential seasoning mixture...

Sunday, Fall 28th - Fiddlehead Risotto
Fiddlehead Risotto! Fiddlehead ferns are beautiful, but actually quite bland on their own. That's why you have to pay careful attention to the spices you add. I'll be honest, it's not very easy to make a good fiddlehead risotto. But with my help, you'll have the best chance at achieving it.

Sunday, Winter 7th - Poppyseed Muffin
Poppyseed Muffin! Poppies make beautiful ornamental flowers... but why not make full use of the plant with these delightful muffins? I'm a huge fan of poppy seeds. They're subtle, but they add a nice flavor and a great texture to bready desserts. And they're healthy!

Sunday, Winter 14th - Lobster Bisque
Lobster Bisque! You could serve this one to the governer himself. It's rich, creamy and delicious, with just the right amount of oceanic flavor. The hardest part is finding some lobster, but I'm sure you can do it. Heck, if you're feeling crafty you could catch one yourself with a crab pot!

Sunday, Winter 21st - Bruschetta
Bruschetta! It's a wonderfully simple appetizer that really showcases the quality of the ingredients. You'll need bread, tomato, and oil. First, you'll need to grill the bread. Slice the tomato and place onto the grilled bread. Then drizzle with oil and serve. I told you it was simple!

Sunday, Winter 28th - Shrimp Cocktail
Shrimp Cocktail! Here's another good appetizer for you and your dinner guests. My cocktail sauce is extra zesty, and I'm sure you'll love it. Now, the first step...
The Governor's Reaction at The Luau

On the 11th of every Summer, The Luau festival takes place on the sandy beaches of Pelican Town. During this marvelous get-together, personally attended by the Governor himself, the mayor conducts a taste test for himself, the Governor and all of the villagers using the famous soup that has ingredients added in by everyone.

Of the possible reactions the Governor can display, here are his six reactions from worst to best:
  • Blech! This is vile! I think I'm going to be sick... I need to lie down... -Lewis: Good going, people... Whoever put that foul ingredient in the soup made the Governor pass out! I'm ashamed. Go home, the festival is over.

  • Um... It's actually kind of disgusting. I think I'll pass on the soup this year. -Lewis: Yuck. Someone must have ruined it with a poor-quality ingredient. Well... does anyone want any?

  • Hmmm... Well it's not bad, but it's missing something... Did everyone in town contribute an ingredient to the soup? I feel like it's missing someone's unique voice. -Lewis: You're right... It's a little bland. Well, thanks for joining us this year, Governor. Sorry the soup wasn't anything special. Now... who else wants some soup?

  • Hmm... I don't have much to say about this. It's an average soup. -Lewis: He's right... It's nothing special. Not bad, though. Well... who else wants some soup?

  • Ah... that's a very pleasant soup. The produce from this valley never disappoints! -Lewis: Mmm... tasty. You all did very well today. Now... who else wants some soup?

  • Oh my... that's the best soup I've ever tasted! -Lewis: You're right... It's delicious! Wonderful job, everyone! Now... who else wants a taste?

Based on some speculations in this discussion and the comments section of this guide, the best reaction can possibly be triggered by using:

  • Gold Star quality Purple Mushroom (Confirmed)
  • Gold Star quality Starfruit (Confirmed)
  • Gold Star quality Cauliflower (Confirmed)
  • Gold Star quality Truffle

The strange bun recipe is unlocked at level 7 with Shane, not 3.

oh and you can get the recipe for the Triple Shot Espresso from Gus but i can't remember the price. i know it was one of the more expensive ones because i had to save up for it... so prolly 500+.
do you think when they come out with the even Newer version, they'll add more recipes? i sure hope so. cooking, crafting and the like are my favorite aspects of the game. it's a nice relaxing way to have a farm with none of the irl headaches. lol
thanks again for making this. it's still one of my go-to guides. even with a fair amount clocked in on the game, it's still good to have a fall-back list of what's what to help keep things sorted.

@kstormgemini

For everyone's sake this deserve to be answered:

Yes, if you miss a recipe from then Queen of Sauce channel and have already saved over your game - you will have to wait 2 more years from the date you missed to see it display again. However most Wednesdays rerun the recipe from the previous Sunday so.. you might have a few days yet if you only just missed and forgot a recipe.

@kstormgemini I have updated the guide with the information you requested. Thank you for your lovely comments! I believe I already added Shrimp Cocktail a while back since it pertained to the Queen of Sauce channel. Seafoam Pudding however, being the fantastic item it is has been so included in the guide. You've also been credited for this in the credits section!

@HairyTheLostBoy You should see it now.

could you include the new recipes as well? with the latest version up, i know there are a couple new ones. something called seafoam something or other and i think shrimp cocktail to name a couple... there might be more than that even. i'm too hot right now to have a working brain. ^^;;
HairyTheLostBoy 3 Jul, 2020 @ 2:39pm
I don't see sea foam pudding on the list?

argh! i'm missing the recipe for crab cakes on this play-through. i thought i had been so good about watching the telly on the proper days but i guess i missed one. oi.
so does that mean i have to wait for year four's fall 21st to roll around before she'll show that recipe again?

Thank you! I didn't know why one of my missing cooking recipe was not showing off even though I was the correct day (odd/even year for the tv to give you the recipe!!!). We learn new things everyday :)

Tried the gold star hot pepper and only got the first response of average.
