Introduction
Have you ever looked at your cities and see this?

If you've tried deleting the extra roads, the game tends to place them back as the city grows. But I assure you, there is hope.
Bulldoze Festival
If you want to have better city efficiency, you need to get rid of the unnecessary roads as seen above. First, you need get rid of the road and the buildings on it. Poof! Gone. (Be sure you pause the simulation so you can do your magic)
Add the Assets
There are small, compact assets that the game now has that you can use to your advantage, the one I'm using is the lamp post found under the landscaping tab. The lamp post is the smallest asset that the game has to offer at the moment and therefore is a fantastic tool to use for this puprose. Just place the post where you see fit. Be sure that you don't place it where a building can be constructed so you can maximize city density. And be sure you place it where the game has the best opportunity to auto-place the roads back down, so you have to see where the posts will be most useful.
A tip for locating where the game tends to place down roads is where two sections of road meet and at intersections. It can also create it's own intersection where there is enough room such as on a long section of road, so just be aware of that.
Fin
You can see here that the game is constucting it's buildings and is taking advantage of the system.

Now that you've showed the game who's boss, your city and buses/trams will thank you for your efforts to help create the best possible city infrastructure. By doing this, it will help you with your lines to be more efficient and not having to zig-zag everywhere. The more your city looks like a grid, the better off your lines will be.

Here is a pic from a city where the roads are in a nice grid system.

Don, As your cities grow, you need to pay attention where all the traffic goes. If there is a lot of foot traffic going into a particular location, you should probably add a stop if you haven't already. As the cities grow around your stations, other parts will be abadoned so as time goes on, just pay attention to the traffic. If you need to add stops, be sure to place them at least a couple blocks away. Don't place them too close nor too far. Just keep the stops in the high land value areas shown by the 'land use' button. It also might be advisable to add another line going the opposite direction when your cities become large (~500-700 people).
You can also extend your old route to encompass more of your city, but don't make the route too long, otherwise people won't ride it. Keep the total number of stops around 7-10. But definitely no more than 11.

Any chance you could post a couple pics of what your bus stop setup looks like? Also, as the cities grow, how often does one advise adding more stops for more coverage?
