It worked for me. Did as exactly as the video did.

I checked that right now, and managed to get 52 without practice.
It's still possible, just much more difficult than the title says. You basically have to juggle the mooks around a lot until they get algined just perfectly.

Sorry to unearth this after it's literally been years, but this doesn't appear to grant a 60x combo. The combo meter in the video itself also only goes up to 36. I've tried gathering two more shamblers from around those parts and it got me nowhere close to 60.
Any idea where to find enough enemies to do this?
