Quick tips for the intermediate player
By Remco and 1 collaborators
This is a continuation of the "Quick tips for the beginner player" by Celerann.

Warning this might contain spoilers

This guide is going to focus on the some more in-depth mechanics and will sometimes be me repeating something Celerann said and putting it in a different perspective, so you can play this game as efficiently as possible.

I'm always open for feedback in the comments and this will mostly be growing a lot, if i find something that could come in handy or found a new way to do something ill post it on here.
it's been over 4 years since i played the original game so most of this is me refreshing my mind and finding a lot of cool mechanics again.

Headstart
Well this chapter of the guide is all about getting strong early, this has nothing to do with the rest of the gameplay, this is just for easy story clearing and getting the character ready for end game.
So if you want some tips for exploits and stuff check the other chapters.

First thing i wanna go over in getting a head start is abusing the resources you get from the start.
It all begins with the first tutorial stage, right after you get your first battle or even during you will notice that you have 3 prinnies in your team.

DO NOT USE THE PRINNIES

What you wanna do right now is making sure you have only 1 character that gets the kills on the monsters from the tutorial.
(so either Etna or Laharl have to kill the monsters you don't want them to split the kills)

After you are done with tutorial stage 1 you want to head back to the castle, when you are there you want to loot the prinnies and right after either kill them or let them say in your team for ever.
(they're useless though)

You kinda have to steal their equipment and use their armor equipment for yourself, and you can sell their weapons to make a bit of extra cash.

Now go on with the tutorial stages after you are done, either Laharl or Etna will have 10 mana.
Use this mana to make yourself a mage color doesnt really matter, but chapter 2 will be full of ice monsters. Considering that a fire mage wouldnt be too bad of an idea.
(I just killed chapter 2 w/o needing any heals from the hospital only using my fire mage)

Try to get 10 mana with your newly made mage and make her a female warrior.
This will help you unlock the knight class, which saves a lot of time later on.
since you can reincarnate and use the mentor/pupil system imidiatly.
(if you are wondering why you have to do this its all because magic is OP as hell in disgaea)

Also as an extra considering you dont mind taking some extra time you could also suicide in 1-4.
Resulting in to a mid boss end, the game then thinks you beat the game and you can unlock Pleneir the cute bunny like girl from the dark assembly.
She is one hell of a gun slinger really strong.

^^^^^^ I TRIED IT BUT I DIDN'T WORK ^^^^^^^^

Equipment
This chapter will feature a story based part and a general tips n tricks part

Story

The equipment is really straight forward, you can basically reset your shop by closing it completely and opening it again.
This is where grinding starts.
What you are now going to try and do is find a good weapon, deciding what a good starter weapon is, isnt that hard. Any item with a specialist that goes over 10 bonus points in the main stat of the weapon is worth to get.

But with this knowledge you can actually try to farm up and buy some really nice specialists we are mainly going to look for Manager, Statician, and Armsmaster.
Try to buy equipment or consumables with only 1 specialist, it will make it way easier to kill only 1 so you dont have to get out of your way.

When you are about to hit chapter 3 you should have the knight class unlocked by now, and you can also make a star mage. Try to learn the knight some star spells aside from all the elemental ones using the pupil system.
What we want to create right here is a long range mage that can kill specialists easily.
And since star is OK against any resistance it is the best to use, unless a monster is weak against fire for example then you would use fire.

Paldin told us this in the comments;
(Thanks I did not even know this :)
"Speaking of Star, it has the fastest animation of all the skills in the game. It saves a ton of time to use just Star (not mega nor giga) and the damage multiplies just fine after been grinding for forty days and nights. I started with a witch for each Laharl and Etna, and later Flonne, so that I could get star. A benefit of learning only a couple skills rather than a bunch of skills is that you do a lot less scrollingin the menus, too. Again, Star is a time saver."

The Item World
When you think you are ready you're probably not but you need to go in any way otherwise you wont advance in the story line.
The main thing you might wanna focus on will be a lil bit grindy it can take up to 1-2 hours.
Is trying to make a 100+ statician, this is completely debatable but it think it's worth it in the long run. Since you need to enter the item world anyway to progress the story, why wouldnt you just grab some of the staticians you bought earlier and double them :)

The Item World is gated in increments of 10 levels that you will need to cross, either by clearing them of all monsters, or by moving one character onto the yellow exit panel. To enter the Item World, make sure the item you wish to work on is in your Item bag, not the warehouse. When you are first sent to the Item World by the story, you will also get an item called "Mr. Gency's Exit". Make sure that this one is in your item bag as well, and hang on to it.

The level of the monsters you encounter in the item world increases the deeper you get, but the base level is dependent on the item's rank - in short, the more expensive an item in the shop, the higher level the monsters in it:

You can see on the bottom line what the minimum level is for each item you plan on visiting.

Back to item specialists, or as they are called in the game, Residents. On each new level, there's a chance that one of these specialists is spawned. When that happens, the game will show him to you for two seconds at the beginning of the level, like this:

Your objective is to kill ("subdue") this guy. There's a catch though. Notice his HP line? It's yellow. These specalists are going to get attacked by the other monsters in the level near them, and if they land the killing blow, too bad, you won't encounter this Resident again until you exit the item world and re-enter it.

Speaking of exiting the Item World - every 10 levels, you get a mini-boss called the Item General. They're usually at the center of that level, and a bit more powerful than other monsters. Once you kill him, crossing the exit panel allows you to return to the normal world, and if you clear the entire level instead of exiting, you will get an additional Mr. Gency's Exit item. What's that good for? Assuming the monsters in any other level gets too hard, you can use this item to immediately leave the item world. This is commonly called "Gency out" in most older FAQs you can find for the PS2 or PSP versions.

To make the item world boss system more clear, 堕天使 - Ultra made a list for us
"I would like to add that at every 10 floors of the item world you meet a boss, yes, but when you reach the floor 30, 60 or 90 of an item the item general is changed for an Item King. At floor 100, the boss is called an "Item God". At floor 100 of a legendary item rank 40 or 41, the boss is an "Item God 2". Those 2 items gods also are black majins".

To make it short:
Floors 10, 20, 40, 50, 70, 80: The boss is the Item General
Floors: 30, 60, 90: The boss is the Item King
Floor 100: The boss is the Item God (Item God 2 if the item is rank 40-41)

Next time you revisit the same item, you'll start from the same depth where you Gencied out.

Aside from subduing specialists, note that the item base stats also increase for each level you clear, making a level 10 rank 1 sword more powerful than the more expensive rank 2 sword. This isn't all that necessary to beat the story mode, but having decent mid-range weapons levelled out helps tremendously on the more difficult battles, and is critical to beating the optional content.

A Small demonstration of the Mage in action

At one point in the video I could snipe a specialist who was on another island, having such a huge range is a big boon in the item world. Not only does that save me a lot of time, it also makes the run a lot safer since I can save my throwing crew for rushing the portal, making it last only 1 turn.

After doing this for let's say 6-7 hours I think i got this;
I started with a decent feather token I got from the hospital.
And i actually got a surplus of staticians when i first started i forgot that the max effective staticians was 300 the only thing i remembered was that the max stack was 600.
So I just searched for a lot of armsmaster+statician combinations in the shop.
But still in need of a decent weapon i made this.
It's not even a good weapon I didn't level it higher than lvl 10 but it serves my needs.
Something like this would be enough for you to carry on to the leveling section.

Oh btw, this sometimes happens in the item world lol.
Thank god these stages exist <3.
Leveling
Leveling

As i mentioned earlier, working yourself up to a 300 statician is mandatory, and having a 600-ish armsmaster will come in handy aswell. 6x times as much item experience is soooo handy.

So well you got some items, or you skipped that part and ended up here.
We're now going to talk a little about the process called "grinding your ass off".
This is might be viewed as the most boring part of disgaea, but this is what disgaea makes disgaea and to me it's what makes this game extremely fun.

I'll make a small list of things that can come in handy along the way;

- 300 statician + any level armsmaster (the higher he is will impact how fast you will train your weapon mastery and how much more damage you will deal after each subsequent attack)

- Some extra SP from orbs helps aswell, it makes your cycles last longer ( you don't have to heal that often I can do like 100 stages w/o needing to heal)

- Galaxy mage and Samurai are the most proficient classes for this. (actualy majin aswell but this takes some time to get) Galaxy mage because yea... magic is overpowered, and samurai because S class on sword and a 110% attack modifier.

- Unlocking CoO3 (Caves of ordeal 3), this is the main stage you will be training on later in the later stages of the game. it's fairly easy to get i got it with only a 400 samurai and a 150 galaxy mage by killing the senators of course. and no I did not have the weapons i showed in the item world section.

So if you got some of those things from the list you are fine to go otherwise it would just be a waste of time.
So let's say you are level 50~~ , you should keep doing stage 5-3 and stack em up and use triple exp to level till 80-90~~.

Once you've hit that point of level 80-90;
You are fine to advance to stage 9-1.
9-1 is one of my favorite stages not only because it's a 3x3 grid and fairly easy to clear but it's also the first stage so i can just mash my x button and enter the stage once i return from the hospital. I did it like uh this much before moving on to CoO3.

Funny thing is I'm still at stage 9-2 when my highest character has a total level of 4700 or something. yes I did reïncarnate already which is not the best thing to do but i think it's fine for now.

I think you need like 2-3k atk to kill them all with 1 blow (that is probably way more than needed but im not sure :s)
If you feel like the process is slowing down then just use the stronger enemy bill a few times. you always want to only just clear them otherwise you are wasting precious exp.
Not killing stronger monsters while you can is just stupid.... yes i like grinding but i'm not going to waste 10 hours on killing level 40 monsters when i can kill 150 monsters already....

So, you are finally deciding to also go to CoO3, which is a great decision do note that 10k~~ atk is needed to one shot these monsters, they're quite tanky using braveheart or lowering their hp by using multiple attacks is also fine but it just takes more time than you wanna spend. so be prepared for the stage and don't come crashing in you can take them on so easily.

So far i did the stage almost as much as i did 9-1 and as you will notice you train WAAAYY faster with CoO3.

Only masochists keep the animations on in Disgaea.

I'm playing through the game with both friendly and enemy animations turned off. Enemies love to spam sloooooooow things like Camaradiere and Pixie Magic (not to mention Prinny Dance in one of the bonus levels... *shudders*), and that sometimes gives you enough time to make a sandwhich before your next turn starts. Since you're generally outnumbered, you get fed up with enemy animations pretty quickly. :P

Just some quick details to improve your guide.

Of course, you could just turn friendly skill animations off and save even more time.

@Paldin thanks ill add that as a quote :)
