You really need to think about your tactics. You like to face tank close range combat ships with your slow firing long range weapons, which is one reason you keep dieing alot. If you're going to face tank, which the Zephyr is decent at, you need to eqiup high powered short ranged lasers, rapid fire guns, and nukes in your red slots, not missles. Equiping some shield boosters in your blue slots help too. Also, don't be afraid to jump out of a system you can't win, as opposed to going head long into their guns. The enemy may chase you, but if they don't, you've just saved yourself a bunch of progress.
