Intro

Hey guys. Either you've come across this by accident or you have been looking for a way to get all that neat stuff you've probably seen on the community screenshots and wondered why it isn't in your game as well. Well, wonder no more.

As you probably know this game is in Early Access. In other words, it isn't done yet. As the devs work out the kinks in the new stuff they'll farm it out to the experimental build for us buyers who might not be so worried about bugs to test and report back.
There are both upsides and downsides to this. On the one hand, you'll be getting stuff that the devs have literally just finished into your game, and will allow you to play with a more flushed out tool set. The disadvantage is, of course, you have to deal with the bugs. Whether you experience them will largely depend on luck, as well as what you doing, but I'd hazard a guess that at least most of you will hit a game breaking bug at least once if you're playing in experimental mode.

You can follow me, and see the rest of my guides here:

Now with that out of the way, let's get you up and running!
How to:
  • So the first thing you'll want to do is boot up Steam (if you havn't already), and turn off Subnautica if you're playing it.
  • Next, find Subnautica in your library.
  • Right-click on it.

  • Select "Properties".

  • Switch to the "Betas" tab, and select "experimental -" in the drop-down menu.

The game will now download new files which will allow you to play the game as normal. The new stuff will automatically be in the game.

I would advise starting a new game. When I first did this the game was completely broken and I had to start a new game anyway. Save yourself the trouble.
You can try your luck anyway however.

Note: If the 'experimental' option does not appear for you, simply
verify the Integrity of Game Cache in the properties menu.
This should make it appear again

If you would like to give me something if this guide helped you out, I would be happy to accept. But this is not necessary.

I am not sure why the OP labelled this as outdated.
There is surely an experimental version available which runs hundred times better than the current official "stable" version.
I've linked this guide on Nexus as I uploaded an experimental save there and apparently there are still people who have no idea of what this is. oO

@debby

That's because this game has now been released. There are no experimental builds.

@Subnootica: 1. Yes, it does. 2. It can, but only if you let the game upgrade it to the most recent update. What happens is this: if your normal world has ships, bases, or equipment in an updated biome, that stuff WILL disappear the moment you update that world. This is because each affected biome gets reset. However, if you know that you don't have anything within the affected biomes, just go ahead and upgrade the world and you'll be fine.

Subnootica- It does change your whole game, but I am not sure what effect it has on worlds that were previously normal. It may either cause you to restart, or just implement the new content.
