Chapter 1: Out of Course
Follow the tutorial, and walk through the light to the fuse box on the wall. Interact with it to turn on the lights and reveal a gate. Head towards the gate, and you’ll find an examination prompt right where the light meets the road. Examine this to receive Boston Daily News 1/60: "Who was that girl...". This will unlock achievement: News of the Day

Cross the road to the gates, and examine the post box for Boston Daily News 2/60: "I could read the name...".

Interact with the gate to head inside. Approach and interact with the well for Boston Daily News 3/60: "The bucket fell down...". This is essential for another achievement later in the game.

Head up to the house, and try to open the door for Boston Daily News 4/60: "No one answered my calls..." (you must do this before finding the key or you will miss the entry). Turn around and investigate the wine glass for Boston Daily News 5/60: "The glass was still moist...".

Leave the front porch, and investigate the items at the bottom of the stairs for Boston Daily News 6/60: "I couldn't help but think...".

Head into the graveyard at the side of the house, and interact with the first grave on your right for Boston Daily News 7/60: "On the grave, the name Margaret...".

Now walk around to the side of the statue, and interact with it to reveal the keys to the house. Grab the keys and enter the house. This will unlock achievement: Shelter for the night
Chapter 2: A Door Slammed - part 1
Follow the footprints on the floor for a short cutscene. Light a match when prompted, and check the cabinet to your left to find more matches. Investigate the shovel next to the door for Boston Daily News 8/60: "It seemed someone had been busy...".

If your match goes out, light another. Check the phone receiver on the floor for Boston Daily News 9/60: "Once inside the house...".

Enter the door to the right of the shovel, and you’ll enter a small drawing room. There is a light switch right next to the door.
Follow the room around to the left, and you’ll find some more matches on a cabinet. Continue following the room around, and you’ll come to the Library door. On the cabinet to the left will be a book. Pick it up for Margaret 1/24: "Margaret's diary, excerpt 12".
This will unlock achievement: Bedside book.

Keep going around the room until you’re back at the desk. Pick up the camera from the desk, and investigate the small statue for Boston Daily News 10/60: "The small statue of a Lunar goddess...". Pick up the newspaper for Newspaper 1/10: "Comes Darkness".

In the corner, next to the door you entered through, you’ll find Margaret 2/24: "Margaret's diary, excerpt 11".

Sit in the chair under the Selena poster to save the game. You will now be able to run around. Go to leave the room, and you’ll receive Boston Daily News 11/60: "I saw a surreal woman..." from an apparition.
Return to the previous room, and the large doors in the corner will now be open, so head through. To the left of the door will be a camera and a Note to Self. Continue a little further around the room to find Margaret 3/24: "Margaret's diary, excerpt 19".

Investigate the paintings on the wall to the left of the bench for Boston Daily News 12/60: "Another apparition!...". Check the cabinet to the left of the paintings for Newspaper 2/10: "Boston Brahmins".

Do not travel any further into the room, because it will not end well for you. Instead, turn around, and head across the room to find a shoe on the floor. This will give you Boston Daily News 13/60: "A woman's shoe...".

Continue across the room, and examine the paintings on this side to receive Boston Daily News 14/60: "One of the paintings...". There’s also a camera to the right, but be careful not to get too close to the apparition. If you do, run away.

Now turn around, and enter the door to the right of the bench. Head left around the room to find Newspaper 3/10 and 4/10: "An appointment with Destiny I and II".

Continue on, past the open door, to find a light switch in the corner of the room. This will light up a section of the room, and on one of the seats in the centre, you will easily be able to see a Note to Self. On the table next to it, you’ll find William 1/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #10”. Examine the ashtray next to it for Boston Daily News 15/60: “A glamorous crimson lipstick...”.
Examine the box in the corner, and interact with the symbol on top of it for Boston Daily News 16/60: “A small music box...”.

Sit in the chair next to the globe to save. Continue around the room, and investigate the gramophone for a short scene and Boston Daily News 17/60: “It seemed that using...”.

On the cabinet to the left of the gramophone is Selena 1/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #1”.

Turn around, grab some more matches, and grab a camera from the table. On the same table as the matches will be Margaret 4/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 18”.

Check the cabinet in the far left corner to find William 2/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #12”.

Head through the curtains at the back of the room, and you’ll find a Note to Self in one corner. On the floor to the right of this, you’ll find a log to pick up.

To the left of the kitchen door will be a chest on the floor. Interacting with it will teach you how to put out your matches and give you Boston Daily News 18/60: “I found a chest...”. To the left of this is a fireplace, but we don’t have enough wood to use it yet. To the left of the fireplace, you’ll find some more matches and the other log you need to start the fire.
Light the fire and open the chest. Inside, you’ll find a jazz record to pick up and Selena 2/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #2”.

In the final corner of the room, you’ll find more matches and William 3/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #9”.

Return through the curtain, and interact with the gramophone for a cutscene and Boston Daily News 19/60: “The disc said the girl...”. Go back through the curtain, and pick up the key from the table. Return through the curtain once more, and save the game.
Now backtrack to the room with the door to the Library, and use your new key to open it. Head inside, and immediately, you’ll see a Note to Self next to the door.

Follow the room around to the left to find Newspaper 5/10: “Reasons for the Crisis” on a cabinet.

Further along here, you’ll see a path leading behind the bookcase next to the table. Don’t go up this path yet. You’ll see a lamp on the table, but it doesn’t currently work. On the corner of this table, you’ll find William 4/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #7”.

To the left of the lamp, you’ll see the end of a bookcase with a poster of a woman on it. Walk behind this bookcase to find a cable running along the floor.
Follow the cable, and it’ll lead you to a door – and someone knocks. Open it for some fun then run away. Return to the door, and look near the floor to the left to find the plug. Examine it and plug it in. To the right of the door, you can examine a skull. Do so, and take the blade from it. Continue to the right to find a Note to Self in between the books on a bookcase and William 5/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #3” slightly further along.

On the floor in the centre of this area, you’ll find a light switch.
Turn it on to receive Boston Daily News 20/60: “I made a discovery...” and unlock achievement: Ashes to Ashes

Now that the lamp is on, look on the table in the corner to find a book. Open it to receive the key to the kitchens and Boston Daily News 21/60: “I finally had the kitchen key...”.
Chapter 2: A Door Slammed - part 2
Now follow the lamp cable back to the door, and follow the next cable until you reach a painting. Examine it to receive Boston Daily News 22/60: “Although my ideas...”. Check the book case opposite to find Margaret 5/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 1”. Right next to it will be Margaret 6/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 2”. This will unlock achievement: The Quest of the Erudite.

To the left of this diary will be a small placard near the top of the bookcase. Examine it to receive Boston Daily News 23/60: “Irina, Virginia and Maria...”. On the cabinet to the left, you will also find a Note to Self.

Continue past the cabinet to reach the end of this row, and turn to the left. On the bookcase ahead, you’ll see another camera to collect. Continue to the end of this row, past the table, to find Newspaper 6/10: “Victim of the Crisis” on the floor by the door.

Now head to the table with the lamp, and turn it on. Turn the lamp to the left until it shines down the middle path between the bookcases and highlights another picture of a woman. Put your match out, and interact with the picture to insert your blade.
Check the box near the picture to find William 6/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #1”.

Now it's time to return to the kitchen door. Head back to the room with the gramophone in it, and turn the lights on again. Make sure to save here before progressing – you’re about to find out how annoying it is trying to get around apparitions...
Head through the curtains to find this room has been rearranged a little. There is also an apparition in this room, so run around it, and quickly enter the kitchen (sounds so much easier than it is...). On the worktop in front of you, you’ll find William 7/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #21”.
You’ll also see two boxes of matches to collect. There are 80 matches here for you to collect, so it's the perfect time to go for some achievements.
Firstly, use up all of your matches, including your last match, by putting them out yourself. This will unlock achievement: Last Bullet & Gambler. Make sure to put out 10 matches yourself in total to unlock achievement: Hothead

If you're particularly worried about the achievement for collecting 200 matches, though you shouldn't need to as it should come naturally as you progress, you can collect about 60 matches from here to be sure. Leave 20 or so matches, just in case you need them later.
Continue around to the sink, and look on the floor for a Note to Self.

Continue around the edge of the room to find a light switch. Examine it, and flip the switch upwards to light up the kitchen. Head to the table in the corner, and put out your match. You can now grab another blade from the table here. With that done, interact with the light switch again, and flip it downwards to light up the corridor. The door to the left is blocked, so exit the kitchen the way you came, running past the apparition and saving again.
Try to leave the room through the door opposite the chair to find yourself blocked, so instead, exit via the other door. Here you’ll be surrounded by apparitions, so quickly run out the next door into the light.
Return to the Library, and interact with the table lamp again. This time, use it to highlight a different picture. Interact with this one, and insert your blade. A light will turn on down the other side of the library, so head between the bookcases to find footprints underneath the light.
The footprints lead straight up to one of the bookcases. Interact with the bookcase, and move the solitary book on the left. This will open a secret passage, so head inside.
Follow the room around to the right to find a map. Interact with it to receive Boston Daily News 24/60: Lost and overtaken...”.

Continue around the room, and you’ll find a camera underneath a portrait to the right of the window.

Don’t go any further as there’s an apparition here, so head back to stand by the door. Look on the desk in front of the door for some murder files, and then examine the statue for Boston Daily News 25/60: “The office door was guarded...”.

Head back to the door, and start following the room around to the left. On the bookcase to the left of a desk, you’ll find William 8/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #13”. Examine the large painting of Selena for Boston Daily News 26/60: “I found the portrait...”, then check on the nearby table for Selena 3/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #3”.

In the corner, near some matches, you’ll find a candle on a table. Light it to reveal a chair so you can save. Continue to the left, past a door, to find a camera on the floor.

Open the door, and look to the side of the door to find a camera.

There are two apparitions in this room, so be careful. Head back around, past the door, and follow the wall to find a light switch. Turn it on to kill one of the apparitions. Head into the far corner to find William 9/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #14” on a desk in the corner. Edge slowly into the middle of the room to find Newspaper 7/10: “The Wolf of Black Lake” on the floor.

Check the side of the room to find a chest on the floor, as well as a camera near it.

Open the chest to find a lightbulb. Further down the wall here is a door leading back to the kitchens (the one that is boarded up). To the right of this door is a wardrobe. Push the wardrobe out of the way, and plug in the cable that was underneath it.
You’ll find yourself in a spotlight. Approach the poster of Selena, and interact with it. Another spotlight will appear. Walk into the new spotlight, and interact with the gramophone. This will create even more spotlights.
Start walking around, and the spotlights will start moving too. Stay inside them until another light appears, illuminating the front of a car. Approach the car, and grab the letter “N” from the floor. Activate the switch next to the car, and another spotlight will appear.
Use the moving spotlights to reach this new area. Once there, pick up the letter “S”. Interact with the car to turn the headlights on. Look on the floor to find an E and some Xs scratched into the surface. Place the “S” and “N” in their correct spots.
Head back to the moving spotlights, and you’ll see new lights in the distance. Use the moving spotlights to reach these, and grab the letters “E”, “L”, and “A”. Return to the previous letters, and add these new ones to the floor, then head towards Selena.
Now that you’ve recovered from your shock, walk down the passage towards to where you killed the last apparition. When you’re in the light, check the floor to find Victims 1/10: “Victim’s note #3”.
Chapter 2: A Door Slammed - part 3
Head back to the secret room in the Library. You can now put the bulb in the lamp and turn it on. Check the centre of the room for Newspaper 8/10: “Disappearances”.

With the apparition gone, check the desk to find Victims 2/10: “Victim’s note #1”. Look at the pictures on the nearby bookcase for Boston Daily News 27/60: “In the office...”.

Make sure you save in the nearby chair, then open the door the apparition was blocking and enter.
Examine the coffin next to the door for Boston Daily News 28/60: “In the corridor...”. Check the next coffin along for William 10/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #8”. The next coffin along has a camera in it.

There is another apparition wandering around this room and another on the stairs. Wait for the apparition to enter the centre of the room with the coffins, then slowly follow it past the stairs. Alternatively, wait for it to enter the centre of the room, then try and run through the gap. Both ways have their risks.
Once you’re past the stairs, immediately check the left corner here for a light switch. Turn it on to kill the apparition chasing you. Near the stairs, you’ll find another light switch to kill the other apparition, and a Note to Self on the desk in between them. You will also find Victims 3/10: “Victim’s note #2” on the floor nearby.

Near the victim note is a wardrobe you can push out of the way. Walk past into the light to find a Note to Self on the desk. Try to open the door here for Boston Daily News 29/60: “The locked cellar door...”.
Now return to the stairs, and climb them for a short cutscene and Boston Daily News 30/60: “Selena climbed the stairs...”. There are also matches on a small table on the way. Climb to the top to unlock achievement: Meeting a Star
Chapter 3: One Star Can Be Enough - part 1
Continue along the landing, and examine the crucifix on the door for Boston Daily News 31/60: “There was a crucifix...”.

Keep going around, past the door, to find Henry 1/3: “From Henry to Margaret” on a desk.

Continue following the banister around to find some matches and a camera on a bench.

Just past this bench is an apparition in a chair. It’s not safe to run past it yet. Backtrack a little to find a corridor leading away from the landing. On a desk nearby, you’ll find William 11/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #6”. Opposite this is a camera on a cabinet.

Continue down this corridor to find another desk holding William 12/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #17”.

As you carry on down the corridor, ignoring the doors for now, you’ll get to a door which opens of its own accord. To the left of this door, on a chair, is William 13/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #18”.

With those all picked up, head back to the top of the stairs where the bird statue was on the coffin, and enter the door to the right of it. Inside, turn on the light, and examine Selena for Boston Daily News 32/60: “Seated in a chair...”. On the desk next to her is William 14/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #15”.

Keep going around the edge of the room to find some matches. On the bed, you’ll find Selena 4/15: “California”.

Continue around the bed, and you’ll find Selena 5/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #4” on the floor in front of the door.

A little to the left is a candle which illuminates another save chair. Next to this, on the table, is Selena 6/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #5”. Examine the paintings on the wall to the left of here for Boston Daily News 33/60: “There were many women...”.

Keep going around the room to find another camera on the night stand by the bed.

If you want to save again, do so in Selena’s room. Head out into the corridor, and enter the door opposite the second door to Selena’s room (near William’s Diary). Stay away from the middle of this room as there’s an apparition that will appear here after approaching the bed. Walk around to the right, and you’ll find Margaret 7/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 15” on a small book case. On the table behind you is Margaret 8/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 16”.

On a chair in the corner is another camera.

Keep working your way around the room. By the open window, you’ll find Henry 2/3: “Henry Vesper, last note”. The apparition should now appear in the centre of the room as you look at the bed.

Now, sticking to the edge, work your way back to the door and past it to find Newspaper 9/10: “Fall of Vesper” on a cabinet.

Head back out into the corridor, and enter the next door on the left as the door to the right is locked. On the sink, you’ll find some matches, as well as a Letter from doctor Rosenthal on a stool next to the toilet.

By the side of the sink, you'll find a map, giving you Boston Daily News 34/60: "Finding the plan..."

The next door down is also locked, so it’s time to enter the door that opened itself...

Walk to the left edge of the spotlight to trigger another. After some speech, another two spotlights will appear. Head through the first to the second spotlight. Walk around the outside of this spotlight, and another will appear on a piano. Head over to the piano, and interact with it.

Follow Selena, and three more spotlights will appear. Examine the coffin, and then head to the left spotlight with the bed in it. Turn off the light here, and then turn it back on.

On the bookcase, you’ll find William 15/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #4”. Examine the child’s drawings on the floor for Boston Daily News 35/60: “I found the drawing...”.

Head over to the window. Look outside, and examine the moon. This will unlock: The Shadow of Doubt. Head to the far corner of the room to find a lamp. Switch it on to reveal that your matches are ruined. Interact with the bed to move it, then interact with the painting twice to reveal a spy hole. Look through the spy hole (why wouldn’t you?), then approach the cross of light on the wall behind you. Hanging on a nail in the middle of the cross of light will be some keys.

Use the key near the spy hole to open another secret door.

Inside, check the floor for Margaret 9/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 14”. There are also some matches on a stool in the corner.

Look on the bath to find Margaret 10/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 13” and some more matches.

Open the cupboard on the wall to grab a hair brush from inside. Before leaving, head back into the previous room, and check the shelf next to the window for William 16/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #19”. To the right of the window, on an almost concealed desk, you’ll find William 17/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #23”.

Now return to the other room, move the chair, and exit. There’ll be an apparition just outside the door, so run back up the corridor and into Selena’s room for safety. While you’re here, save. It’s now safe to explore the corner of the landing outside as the apparition that was sat in the chair is now patrolling the corridor instead.

Here’s you’ll find Newspaper 10/10: “Vesper Factory”.

Now return to Selena’s room. Turn on the lights to reveal Selena, and place the hair brush at her feet.

Once Selena leaves, open the wardrobe behind where Selena was sitting to find a secret door. Head inside, and check the desk to the right to find Margaret 11/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 8”.

Continue past the chest on the floor to find some more matches on a small desk next to a window. On the floor in the middle of this room, you’ll find Margaret 12/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 17”.

Check the table in the centre of the room to find Margaret 13/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 9” and Margaret 14/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 10”.
Chapter 3: One Star Can Be Enough - part 2
Head through the curtains at the back of the room. Stick to the edge again as there’s another apparition in the centre. On a desk on the right, you’ll find Margaret 15/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 20” and Margaret 16/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 7”.

Keep edging your way around to find the light switch (don’t travel more than you need to as there’s an apparition on the bed, "waiting for you...”), then edge your way back to the table lamp. Interact with it, and turn it to face the right side of the bed to find a Note to Self.

Go back to the lamp, and turn it slightly to the right so you can use the pull chord. This will open the curtains. You can now position the lamp so it shines out onto the chest. Open the chest to find a key. This will shut the lamp off, and the apparition will return.

Edge around the bed again to hit the light switch, then back to the lamp, and turn it on again. Now turn the lamp so it lights up the cupboard blocking the doors to the left of the bed. Move the cupboard, and enter the doors.

Walk to the left to find Victims 4/10: “Victim’s note #4” on the floor.

Continue around the room to find a candle and a save chair. There are also some more matches on a nearby chair. Continue around the room, and you’ll find William 18/25: “From William to Selena, 1st letter” next to the piano. Slightly further along, you’ll find William 19/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #11” sticking out of the bookshelf. Check the table in the background for Selena 7/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #6”.

Check the cupboard in the far corner to the left of the balcony doors to find William 20/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #22”.

Play the piano for a cutscene and Boston Daily News 36/60: “Selena tried...”. Follow Selena out onto the balcony, and check the table on the left for some wood. Check the table on the other side of the balcony for Selena 8/15: “Norway”. There is also another log on the floor next to it.

Head back into the music room, and light the fire. Head to the globe in the centre of the room, and rotate it to open a secret panel. Examine the panel. The upper button moves the inside planets, which includes Saturn, and the lower button moves the outside planets, which includes the Moon (they both have visible rings on).

Press the buttons until they line up the Earth, the Moon, and the Fire Place, but not Saturn yet. Examine the moon to receive Boston Daily News 37/60: “It seemed the globe...”. Now line up Saturn as well.

Approach the moon, and interact with it to find Selena 9/15: “From Selena to William, last letter”. Pick up the key within the moon to receive Boston Daily News 38/60: “Selena gave William...”.

Now it’s time to head back downstairs. Save before continuing. To the left of the fireplace is a door that leads back to the main upstairs corridor. Remember, there’s now an apparition out here, so carefully step out then run to the right. Run through Selena’s room if the apparition is blocking your way. Go back down the stairs.

The door leading out of the coffin room is now blocked, so instead head to the cupboards blocking the way at the other side of the room, and push one of them. Continue down the corridor, watching out for the apparition, and head back into the front room.

Enter the door next to the cupboard back into the gramophone room with the small box in the corner. Approach the box, and open it. Inside, you’ll find some sheet music to take. Make sure not to leave the light, and save in the chair. As you go to leave the light, the room will black out, giving you Boston Daily News 39/60: “When the fuses tripped...”.

The room is now absolutely filled with apparitions. Be careful, and run down the side back to the kitchen as you’ll probably need to restock on matches around now. The boarded up door in the kitchen will now be broken, so head through into the corridor. Now run back upstairs to the piano room. Save in Selena’s room along the way.

Light the candle, interact with the piano, and play the music.

After the cutscene, leave the piano room, and follow Selena to receive Boston Daily News 40/60: “As if possessed...”.. Around the first corner, you’ll find Henry 3/3: “From Henry to William” on a cabinet.

This will unlock: On the Threshold to Madness

Walk carefully along with Selena, and she’ll take care of some apparitions along the way. When you get to the stairs leading upwards, check the floor to find some matches and Victim’s Note 5/10: “Victim’s note #7”. You’ll also receive Boston Daily News 41/60: “Selena’s light...”

Now go up the stairs to unlock: In her steps
Chapter 4: On a Trail of Blood
Follow the room around the edge to find some more matches. On the same cabinet, you’ll find William 21/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #16”. There is a light switch right next to it, which will give you Boston Daily News 42/60: “In the attic...”.

In the corner will be a candle and a save chair. Examine the love note on the wall next to the chair for a cutscene. You can find more matches next to the chair and on the floor. Enter the door to the left of the love note.

Head to the right corner of this room, past the clock, to find Margaret 17/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 24”.

Go back to the door and look to the other side of it to find Margaret 18/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 23”.

There is also a shoe to examine on the crate in the centre. There is a Note to Self on the easel just past this. Don’t go too far to the left as there is an apparition there waiting for you. Instead, enter the door on the right.

Welcome to the most pointlessly frustrating room in the game. Apparitions are all over the place, and half of them seem to teleport around, right on top of you at times.
Walk into the room, and you’ll see a cable on the floor. Follow it around the room, and when you get to the window, you’ll be able to examine it for Boston Daily News 43/60: “The thick electrical cable...”. One the desk underneath the window is Selena 10/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #7”, though be careful going for it as there is an apparition in the seat next to it.

Keep following it, and it’ll lead you to some crates. Abandon the wire here, and head behind the crates. Here, you’ll find a bed (which, obviously, has an apparition under it). Just behind and to the right of the bed is a desk with a deer head above it. On the desk, you’ll find a record, so grab it.

Now you need to make it back to the door and interact with the gramophone there. Follow Selena through the room. Halfway through, she’ll disappear and reappear next to the deer head, so quickly run there. Keep following her as she teleports around the room, killing the apparitions.

Eventually, she’ll sit down on a chair. Right next to this is the electricity box. Interact with it to turn the lights on. On a cabinet to your left will be Margaret 19/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 5”.

Head back out into the main room, and check under the circular window to find a save chair. Save the game here – there are still apparitions in this room, just a lot less of them. Now travel past the small circular window to find Margaret 20/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 6” on some crates.

Continue on, and you’ll approach an apparition – just past it is a light switch. Turn this on to kill the apparition and reveal a rope hanging from the ceiling.
Examine this to unlock: The Rope

Just in front of the rope, you’ll find Victims 6/10: “Victim’s note #5”.

Keep going, and in the corner, you’ll find Margaret 21/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 4” in a cabinet to the left of the bed.

Now start following the cable back. You’ll soon find a cabinet with a bird on it towards the right side of the room. Next to the bird is Margaret 22/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 3”.

Over by the box of matches on the left of the room is a light switch. Turn this on to kill another apparition in a wheelchair, revealing a door. First, head back to the gramophone. Follow the wall to your left, past the matches and blocked door, to find a camera on a chair.

You’ll also find a light switch, allowing you to un-block the door. Continue along the wall, and you’ll find Selena 11/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #8” on a shelf.

Head out the recently unblocked door, and save in the seat if you wish. Now go back to the wheelchair, and head through the door to its right. On a crate in the centre of this room will be a projector. Turn it on, and view the screen. Now keep interacting with the projector and viewing the screen to receive Boston Daily News 44/60: “I knew I would never forget...” and Boston Daily News 45/40: “The pictures of that victim’s...”.

Behind the projector, you’ll find William 22/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #2” on the floor. To the left of the window, you’ll find a camera.

Head to the corner of the room, under the elephant head, and you’ll find some matches and William 23/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #5”. Examine the markings underneath the circular window for Boston Daily News 46/60: “The esoteric symbols...”. Check the bookcase to the left to find a map for Boston Daily News 47/60: “The plan of the attic...”.

Head back into the centre of the room, and examine the painting of the circular window for Boston Daily News 48/60: [no text].

Backtrack through the large room into the small side room (not the one with the chair in it), and hit the light switch next to the door. This will light up the back area of this room. Go to the back, and check the crate to the right of the weird painting for Margaret 23/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 21”, then to the left for Margaret 24/24: “Margaret’s diary, excerpt 22”.
This will unlock: A Tale of Shadow and Light
Hidden behind the easel directly in front of the painting will be Victims 7/10: “Victim’s note #6”

If you carry on going, you’ll find some matches and a camera behind the crates.

Now interact with the weird painting for Boston Daily News 49/60: “A large painting...”. That’ll shine a light into the projector room. Head back there, and examine the floor where the light shines. This will allow you to interact with the floorboards and receive the cellar key, as well as Boston Daily News 50/60: ““Cellar” was written on the key...”.

Exit the room, and head back across the large room to trigger a cutscene and receive Boston Daily News 51/60: “Selena was facing me...”.
Save in the next room, and head towards the stairs for another cutscene. Now head down the stairs to the floor below.

At the bottom of the stairs, head forwards towards the corner to find William 24/25: “William Vesper’s Diary, excerpt #20” on a crate in the corner.
As soon as you leave this room, you’ll hear a phone ringing. The phone is right next to you in the corridor. Turn on the lamp, put out your match, and answer the phone to receive Boston Daily news 52/60: “Was I really that stranger...”. This will unlock: Psycho

Run down the corridor, avoiding the apparitions as you go, and head down the stairs to the ground floor via Selena’s room (note: Selena’s room is no longer safe
Chapter 5: Between Preys and Hunter
Directly ahead of you, in the corner, will be a camera on some boxes.

There are apparitions in this room, so follow the wall around the edge, and you’ll soon find a light switch next to a door. Nearby are some matches. Head to the middle of the room, and use the table lamp to kill off the apparitions. If you want to save at any point, direct the lamp at the chair in the corner.

On the wall ahead of you should be a valve crank. To the right of this will be Victims 8/10: “Victim’s note #8”.

Ignore the crank for now, and head into the next room. On the wall opposite the door will be some markings you can examine. This will award you Boston Daily News 53/60: “The plan of the cellar...”.

Further down the wall, you’ll find some chains for Boston Daily News 54/60: “The handcuffs still bore...”.

Hug the wall, continue on, and it’ll soon turn left, and then turn back on itself. As long as you hug the wall, the apparition should leave you alone. Keep following the wall down, past all the barrels of alcohol, and you’ll find Selena 12/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #9” on one of them.

On the wall should be a valve. Turn this until you hear water running. There are also some matches nearby. Keep following the path around, and you’ll come to a light switch. Turn the lights on, and move the barrels out of the way. Examine the boarded up door for Boston Daily News 55/60: “I was haunted by the sight...”.

We can’t do anything with this yet, so follow the path back, but again stick to the left. You’ll soon reach another door. Check the floor nearby for Victims 9/10: “Victim’s note #9”.

Before heading through the door, walk back towards the apparition. You should easily be able to hit the light switch here without attracting its attention. On the wall to the right will be an electric box.

Interact with it, and open the panel on the right. Press the two buttons inside, then pull the levers until all three lights are on.

With that done, keep heading to the right to find another valve near the door here. Turn it until you see a pressure valve rise. Now go back into the first room, and use the lamp to highlight the valve on the wall. Turn the valve until you see the pressure change. Now is a good time to save.

Now go all the way back through the rooms until you reach the door by the victim’s note. Head through the door. On the floor will be some matches and Victims 10/10: “Victim’s note #10”. This will unlock: Before Silence
Investigate the boiler for Boston Daily News 56/60: “Although the boiler was not working...”.

Now interact with the lever to the right of the boiler to light up the room. With the apparition in the corner dead, you can now pick up the axe. Return to where the barrel was blocking the boarded up door, and use the axe to remove the blockage.

Head inside, and continue down the path to the end. In the corner, by the save chair, you’ll find matches and a camera.

Nearby is a table lamp. Turn it on, then turn it to face the chest so you can open it. Grab the mask from inside, and place it on the base next to the lamp. Turn the lamp so it shines through the mask at the symbol chart on the wall, then turn the mask until it reveals three symbols. Input these symbols into the switch to the left of the chart to open the way forward.

This next bit is basically a maze, so I’ll try my best to guide you through it correctly. Follow the path, and take the first left you come to. On the floor here will be Selena 13/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #10”.

Turn left here, and follow the path, without turning down any new passageways, and you’ll find Selena 14/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #11” on the floor.

Take a left here if you need some matches, otherwise take a right. You’ll soon find Selena 15/15: “From Selena to William, excerpt #12” on the floor.
This will unlock: Beauty, Art and Blood

Go directly left from here to find a hidden passage, and you’ll hear a scream.

Continue down to the end of the passage, and examine the pentagram. This will unlock: The five Wounds of Christ

Now turn around, head back, and take the first left. You’ll come to a fork in the road, so follow the blood up the left path to reach a large room.

From the doorway, walk to the right until you find a small ramp that descends into water (there’ll be a patch of light highlighting a blocked door in the background). Follow the edge of the water around to the right, and you’ll reach a lever on some rocks. Pull it for some light.

Leave the water, and head back to the door you entered through. Now go all the way to the left. You’ll find some matches on the floor and a switch/lever combination on the wall. You need to use the switches on the wall so that the shadow matches the symbol above the door to your left. Once you’ve done that, pull the lever to open the door.

With that done, head all the way over to the right. Head back down into the water, and walk around to the right to reach another door. Enter. The door will close behind you.

Directly ahead of you are some matches on a crate. It’s now time for a mad dash through a cave full of apparitions. Try to stay in the centre, and keep running towards the screen. You will almost certainly need to relight a match at least once as you go.

Soon, you’ll reach a large clock on the floor. Approach Selena, and interact with her for a cutscene and Boston Daily News 57/60: “Stabbed and losing...”. To your left, you’ll see a puddle of blood with a bucket in it (assuming that you've followed this guide and interacted with the well right at the beginning of the game). Interact with this to unlock: The Man Who Knew Too Much

Pick the dagger up from the floor, then examine the large rock next to the clock. Place the dagger into the rock. Turn the dagger until your controller vibrates and it locks in place. This will cover up half of the clock. Around the large clock on the floor, just in the darkness, are the symbols marked on this rock.

Now you need to press the large symbols on the floor around the clock in order to match the rock.

This will open the way forward, so leave this area.
This will unlock: At the End of the Black Path
Chapter 6: Dawn Will Not Come
This is a very short chapter, and our story is nearly at its end. Follow the path to leave the grounds. Head back to your car, and interact with the boot. After a short scene, interact with the boot once more for another cutscene and Boston Daily News 58/60: “The blade that injured...”.

Start walking away from the car. Now, spotlights will appear ahead of you. Walk from spotlight to spotlight until two appear on either side of you. First, head to the left, and follow that to the end to receive William 25/25: “From William to Selena, 2nd letter”.

This will unlock: The Path of the Philosopher

Now backtrack, and take the right path. Follow the spotlights to the end, and interact with the grave. If it is not a full moon night, you'll get Boston News 59/60: “Sitting in front of Luna...”. This will unlock: An Endless Night in White Night

If you did it within one night, you’ll unlock: White Night in White Night

Finally, if you finished it on a real life full moon, you'll get Boston News 60/60: "The only good thing..." and unlock the following:

This guide is very helpful, thank you! It's exciting that there are still game players playing this game in 2024!

Hi! Can you please publish all the collectible contents? It's crazy how they are impossible to find online.

Thank you for this guide. I simply would not have gotten through all of this game without it, and it's such an amazing story that needs to be told. I would have had to play multiple playthroughs with how fast I was going through matches before I looked for and found this guide. So thank you so, so much. Cool about the moon-specific news articles, though I'm not likely to play through it again. Actually, and lastly, thank you for the minimum of spoilers: no letters, journal entries, etc in this guide means there was still very much a point to going through everything (I'm not an achievement hunter), but just enough for some tricky parts.

Could you please add the missing section to your guide for Chapter 4? As gyarad0site points out below when going downstairs in order to get the North by Northeast achievement you have to close the door. When going towards the cellar door just before the two cupboards there is a switch on the left wall which kills the apparition guarding our access to Chapter 5.

"Open the chest to find a lightbulb. Further down the wall here is a door leading back to the kitchens (the one that is boarded up)." Here you could add switching the light up is important otherwise the wardrobe cannot be pushed.

2. North by Northeast achievement - https://youtu.be/6y1rSOijcHE

3. Around the clock Achievement: After this first playthrough you should have all collectibles except for a Daily Boston News one, which requieres completing the game on a full moon day.
What does this mean? You must complete the game while the moon is in full state in the real world. Here is a link to a lunar calendar (like this one: http://stardate.org/nightsky/moon) . There is another way to do this, but I won't link to it here.

White Night Achievement: To unlock this achievement you must start a new game any time after 8pm and complete it before 8am the next morning.

thank you for this really awesome and detailed guide. just beat the game with your help - i don't think i would have put up with the gameplay otherwise. i did have a couple questions/comments for you:

1. minor detail, but you forgot at the very end of chapter 4 to mention to hit the light switches to kill the apparition guarding the cellar door. it also unlocks whatever the achievement is for completing chapter 4

2. i followed the guide and missed the north by northeast achievement... any idea what this is or how to get it ?

3. does the game require two full playthroughs in order to get 100% achievements? as in, if you start and finish the game only on a full moon night, will you miss boston news 59/60? or do you get them both? also, what exactly does it mean to play the game in one night? like the date has to be the same the full way through or just less than 24 hours total?

thank you again ~
