The Fastest Way to Farm Moonstones

...and skins.
The absolute fastest way to get moonstones for those ridiculously expensive capacity upgrades. The only downside to this is you need to have the campaign cleared first and also need to be at a quite high level to make it quick but don't worry if you aren't because this will also be a great way for you to level up (check Q&A).

A Step by Step Guide
UPDATE: Seems you need to complete the quest "Z8N-TP" given by Z8N-TP claptrap in Tycho's Ribs or otherwise Sterwin's spawn may get bugged.
  • Alright first thing you need to do for this obviously is clear the main story as I listed in the summary.
  • Once you do that head over to Vorago Solitude where you need to find a guy named Sterwin(left side of the map) who will give you the quest "Guardian Hunter."
  • (Optional) At the end of the mission you will be presented with a choice. I recommended killing the Master Poacher as this will nulock the secret achievement "Guardian Guardian" but the choice does not affect this method.
  • After you are done with the mission head over to Eleseer where Sterwin will now be present (can't miss him as he is right next to the Fast Travel) and offer you the quest "Sterwin Forever" which requires you to capture 4 enemies using the grenade once more just this time they are Ophas.
  • What you wish to do is proceed as normal and capture the first 3 Ophas(or less if you are low level, check Q&A) with the grenade after having weakened them and before proceeding to the 4th one (Opha Superior), swap the mission grenade to your normal one so you accidentally don't throw it in the heat of the battle and capture the last Opha.
  • Now instead of capturing the last one, keep killing it over and over again as it instantly respawns and enjoy tons of moonstones as well skins and some loot to sell for buying that ammo you might use up.

Below is a video showcasing how fast this method is.

Q&A
Q: How can I capture a Guardian/Opha?
A: First make sureyou equip the mission grenade mod, then drop the enemy's health to 25% or level and use the granade.

Q: But I don't think I am high enough level to handle the Opha Superior, what should I do?
A: Do the same thing with one of the lower level Ophas then, instead of capturing it keep killing it. It won't drop as much loot as the Opha Superior but you still will get some good XP. Once you level up enough move to the next Opha and repeat till you feel like you are high enough level to handle the Opha Superior. You'll get some good loot in the process to help you as well.

Q: I've been stuck at 500 moonstones forever, what is going on?
A: There is a limit to how many moonstones you can carry and that limit is 500, so go spend some and come back afterwards, as long as you don't capture the Opha, you can keep coming back any time and it will keep spawning.

Q: My game gets really laggy after a while of doing this?
A: It might be the pile of dead bodies, so leave the area, go spend your moonstones as you probably are stocked anyway and come back afterwards.

Long before you can get to the Opha missions, you could have gotten the "Trouble with space hurps" optional mission from the Chairman ...

The reward is "Freezing Frigidia", a SMG that IMHO feels like the most disruptive gun in the game ... 2 x 30% freeze chance * 7.1 bps = 426% chance of freezing, that overcomes just about any sub-boss's resistances, even with the level-22 vs level 30 or 40 chars before regetting it at 47.

Opha Superior freezes every time (= not spawning) in *way* under 1 second (only enough time for her to pull out 1 or 2 at most), and for good measure, freeze any extras nearby, then switch to an explosive shotgun to shatter her, preferably a 3-ammo x14 type and she disintegrates right away (freeze+explosive has a huge multiplier effect), (or a penetrating laser to cut it in half, or the Bright Paldroon that is otherwise useless even up close, but has OMG magazine size and damage) ... and at worst you might have to switch back to FF for one more cycle

@Solaire of Astora That is super boring and there is no sense of reward

Why not use http://blog.gib.me/ savegame editor and add 500 moonstones and whatever else you need in mere seconds?

As a tip to anyone who finds this guide later on. If you can get yourself something like an assault rifle or SMG with the yellow mode glitch you can just put your controller down and move on with your life while you farm in the background.

The Yellow Glitch mod sets the weapon to continuous burst fire until you reload again, I've sat here with an SMG that switched to the yellow mod and i just stood right in front of the spawn points and aimed right at where the head spawns in on enemies, they all die to the critical hits before they finish touching the ground. Standing that close lets you continually collect ammo packs and Oxygen tanks endlessly. I havent touched my controller in 45 minutes and im still going fine on my PS4

Thanks for the info guys, I added a note for others who might have the same issue.

Thanks for the tip Adobo... It seems that Z8N-TP bugs Sterwin forever and prevents him from spawning (but you can hear his prompt for the quest). Was stuck on this untill I saw your post.

You also have to complete the quest from Z8N-TP claptrap (the one about enlightenment and putti). Otherwise Sterwin won't spawn at Eleseer (but is oddly saying something in to your Echo device)

@Schfick Pretty much like searching your fallen quarter in a jungle, yep :P At least you can still pick up the moonstones with a full inventory so I just went around mashing the pickup button while looking at the ground as you can see in the video.
As for the spawns of the others, that's good to know. Doesn't really make much sense the others wouldn't respawn infinitively as well.

So.many.bodies. Hard to find the moonstones and skins in the pile mountain of bodies.

Also, it should be noted (atleast for me), only the last one had endless instant spawn, the others seemed to stop around 5 spawns.
