Found this via web-search; wasn't sure if this was still in game, but I just did it after about 10 tries and can confirm it works. Watched another video and was just nitro-boosting off of ramp, dawned on me that you have to hit nitro-boost first, then jump (spacebar) right as you're going off the ramp.
