Preamble
Hi everyone, this is meant to be a basic guide to the various achievements in Home. Spoilers ahoy, but beyond that, Home is one of those games where I really would recommend first playing it "organically" and worrying about achieves afterwards. For what it's worth, you can get all the achieves in three runs, so it won't take all that long. Most of the acheives are pretty straightforwards, but I'll try to add a little clarity.

Fair warning, but I don't find the art style particularly lucid, so apologies in advance if I misidentify anything. Likewise, the trigger conditions for some of the ahcieves are a little obtuse, so if i get anything wrong, let me know below and I can correct it.
Cause and effect - Be kind and see the results.
This one's fairly obvious. Shortly after you start, you'll find a mouse in a mousetrap. After you choose to free it, you'll see it thrashing about by the left leg of the table in the kitchen (I imagine it's fighting the cat or eating your car keys or something). If you get close enough, it should disappear and the 'chieve should trigger. If it doesn't, investigating the table a few times might help. This didn't trigger the first time it did it, so I suspect you need to ease the mouse near the hole.
Stolen identity - Recover the pieces of your wallet
This one is a little trickey since you need to find all four pieces of your wallet (and possibly your watch).

  • Forest - Your wallet itself (upper water tower)
  • Forest - Your credit card (between the entrance and the campsite)
  • ? Factory - Your watch (through the hole in the fence before the entrance) - apparently not, thanks Vic=HKC=
  • Norman's House - Your driver's license (in a dumpster in the alley before you enter)
  • Your House - Your wallet photo (TV Room)
Escape route - Investigate potential travel plans
This is another tricky one, because it requires several parts that aren't especially apparent. I'm still not entirely sure what the requirements are, but thanks to Vic=HKC= and Batgirl, i think we've narrowed it down

Specifically:

  • Mansion - examine the bookshelf on the middle floor
  • Basement - check the maps on the wall
  • Sewer - the receipt (in the flop room off of the right hallway, locked by the key ring)
  • Forest - the train station - look at the wall map then head to the ticket booth (you'll need the small key to get through the locked gate at the entrance to the forest)

You might also have to read some of the other documents lying around and/or inspect some of the background items but i'm hoping this is it.
A terrible tragedy - Piece together what happened in the woods
This one is completely in the woods.

To complete it, you will need to:

  • Fully investigate the campsite
  • Get the planl from the restroom
  • Use the plank to cross the stream
  • Investigate the shallow grave
Secret documents - Open the safe
"All Hail King Server" made a rather excellent guide on this, so give them the thumb's up for it.

If you're up for a challenge, the hints are in the manual, apparently, but if you're like me and loathe such meta puzzles, follow their guide:

Safe Code by All Hail King Server
I like to remember things my own way - Maybe this wasn't what you thought at all
At the end of the game, when you get to the pile of filthy rags in the secret room, choose that it it doesn't contain the body.
Grim discovery - Realize your worst fears
At the end of the game, when you get to the pile of filthy rags in the secret room, choose that it it does contain the body.
A warm place - End your story in the bathroom
This is the first of three possible endings. To get it, you will need to:

  • Sewer - pick up the knife (in the sewer hall with the exit sign)
  • Generally choose options that make the character the villian
  • Your House - choose to find the body in the rags
  • After the sleep, examine the items and you make your way back to the basement
  • Pick the knife back up (in the basement)
  • Re-examine the hole in the basement wall
  • Go to the bathroom
  • Choose to end it
Eraser - End your story in the kitchen
This is the third of three possible endings. To get it, you will need to:

  • Basement - pick up the gun (in the first room)
  • Generally choose options that make the character the villian
  • Your House - choose to find the body in the rags
  • After the sleep, examine the items and you make your way back to the basement
  • Pick the gun back up (in the basement)
  • Re-examine the hole in the basement wall
  • Go to the kitchen
  • Choose to end it
Slipping away - End your story by leaving
This is the easiest ending achieve to get. Since this one doesn't require any items or guilt, it's a good match with "Like it never even happened".

  • Get to the end
  • After the sleep, return to the basement
  • Re-examine the hole in the basement wall
  • Leave through the front door
Like it never even happened - Pick up nothing along the way
The achievement text is a FILTHY LIE. To complete the game you need to pick up four items - you'll still get the achievement despite this. You will need to fix all five electric panels in the factory, but there is no way I could find to bypass the other items.

Norman's House:
  • The paperclip from the kitchen garbage (you need this to get into the front store)

Your House
  • The basement key by the laptop (to get into the basement)
  • The rampage room key in the basement paint-can/garbage heap (to get into the rampage room)
  • The crowbar in the rampage room (to get into the secret room in the basmenet)
A close call - Discard a deadly item
Another easy one:

  • Basement - pick up the gun (in the first room)
  • Norman's House - replace the gun in the cabinet in the gun room
Minimum Runs Guide - Overview
Due to the slow text, achievement runs are a bit of a pain, but fortunately you can get all of them in only three runs (or less, pending on which you got on your initial "honest" run).

I would suggest the following pattern:

  • Knife ending - get as many achieves as possible
  • Leave ending - get the leave, no items, and my own way achieves
  • Gun ending - get the last achieve for the gun ending, and clean up anything you may have missed
Minimum Runs Guide - First Run
First Run
Your job here is to get as many achieves as possible. In general, you should make a point to fully examine every object, pick up every item, and enter every room. This will take a while, so you might want something else in the background.

The Mansion:
  • Head all the way left and examine the computer and blood stains
  • Go right then down the stairs
  • Free the mouse then move left to the painting room
  • Activate the painting button then go all the way right to the dining room and take the photo
  • Check the bookshelf on this level then descend to the lower hall
  • Check the bathroom on the left if you want, then go through the taped door to the kitchen
  • Nudge the mouse from under the table to the mousehouse to gain Cause and Effect
  • Return to the lower hall, then contine right to the basement access
  • Move the box and use the ladder

The Basement:
  • Pick up the gun from the first room then use the ladder down
  • Head left for the first grave then back right and down to the cave
  • Check the box to realize you've lost your wallet, then keep left to the upper cave hall
  • Go past the broken ladder to the lower grave, take the rope
  • Return to the broken ladder and use the rope to climb down
  • Keep right to the Sewer

The Sewer:
  • Take the video tape from the garbage pile in the room above the entrance
  • Pick up the knife from the left sewer hall (with the exit sign)
  • Head right, then enter the door marked "1"
  • Activate the valve wheel until the spot matches the position on the diagram to the left. If you have sound on, you can also hear a difference (thanks Hedrox Neo)
  • Return to the hall and head right, using the same technique on valve 2, then on to 3 and 4
  • Backtrack left to the "exit door". Go through, then take the ladder down into the pool
  • Get the small key from the grate on the left of the pool after you drain it
  • Take the key ring off the dead guard
  • Backtrack to the right sewer hall (the one with the door to valve 1) and use the key ring to open the first door to access the flop room. Take the receipt from there

The Forest:
  • Pull down the access ladder to the water tower, climb to the top and retrieve your wallet
  • Use the small key from the sewer grate to open the locked gate to access the train station
  • Enter the train station, head left to the ticket booth to trigger Escape Plan (you might also need to find Rachel's suitcase later)
  • Return to the starting room and head into the forest
  • Take the first bush tunnel
  • Pick up your credit card, continue left to the campsite
  • Take the left bush tunnel to get the room with the large rock, take the notebook
  • Examine all the campsite objects (the firepit, the table, and the tent)
  • Go back, take the right bush tunnel to the rest room
  • Enter the restroom and take the plank
  • Return to the campsite, take the middle bush tunnel back to where you found your credit card, and continue right, this should bring you back to the forest entrance
  • Take the left bush tunnel to the picnic area, examine the table, then head left
  • Use the plank to cross the river
  • Head left to the grave site and examine it. This should unlock A terrible tragedy
  • Return to the outsite the restroom, take the second bush tunnel
  • Head left to the exit to the Factory

The Factory
  • Enter the hole in the fence and get your watch, return, then enter the factory
  • Head up to the break room, then left to the first electric room
  • Interact with both electric panels until they turn green (there are sound cues as well)
  • Return to the break room and move up to the upper landing
  • Go left to the second electric room, activate the panel, take the claw hammer from the shelf
  • Move left to the third electic room, activate both panels and take the magnetic card from the locker
  • Return all the way right to the upper landing and use the hammer to enter the boarded-up room
  • After looking around, go back to the upper landing, then down to the break room
  • You could exit through the bottom floor since the power is on now, but you went through all that effort to get the magentic card, so go left from the break room until the magnetic key door, use the key and enter the upper ventilation room
  • Open the floor grate and drop to the lower ventilation room, read the letter, then exit to the left

Norman's House
  • Contine through the alley, get your license from the dumpster before you enter the house
  • Head upstairs to the upper hall, then right to the gun room
  • Return the handgun to the gun rack to earn A close call. Examine the coat while you're there
  • Continue all the way left to the kitchen, search the garbage for the hairpin
  • Go back to the TV room, pull the cord, then go up the attic steps
  • Examine the large box then go back to the lower hall
  • Use the hairpin on the front door, enter the storefront, then exit through the left

Your House
  • Go through the third alley gate to get to the second gate
  • Examine the mail box to get the envelope, then take the third gate to get into the backyard
  • Enter the house, go through the kitchen to the lower hall then up to the middle hall
  • Move left to the TV room, pickup your wallet photo to finish Stolen Identity
  • Go back to the middle hall and up to the upper hall\
  • Head left to the bedroom and examine the suitcase. If you don't already have Escape plan, this should unlock it
  • Continue all the way right to the study, check the laptop to get the basement key
  • Backtrack to the lower hall, use the basement key to unlock the basement door and descend
  • Check the right half of the garbage bag heap to find the old key. You'll know you're in the right spot when it mentions painting supplies. Also check the wall on the left while you're down there
  • Ascend to the lower hall and then the middle hall, then use the old key to access the rampage room
  • Take the crowbar off the floor, then return to the basement and use it to open the wall to the secret room on the left
  • Search the rag pile in the extreme left, when asked, say it does contain Rachel to get Grim discovery. This will launch the sleep sequence and you'll be teleported to the bedroom
  • Head back to the basement, examining the objects as you go. I don't know how "at fault" you need to be for the knife ending, but you may want to play it safe. Speaking of safes, before you go to the basement, check out the rampage room, which has now become and office with a safe
  • Use All Hail King Server's guide to unlock the safe, or just use 4R3UHER3 to open it and explore the contents. This will give you Secret documents
Carry on to the basement, take the knife off the floor and re-examine the hole in the left wall
Now that you can finish the game, go to the bathroom, examine the bathtub, and choose "yes" to get the achieve for the A warm place ending. The game doesn't gracefully close for me, so you may need to Alt+F4 or Ctrl-Alt-Del to get out.

    You should end up with:
    • Cause and effect
    • Stolen Identity
    • Escape Route
    • A terrible tragedy
    • A close call
    • Secret documents
    • Grim discovery
    • A warm place
Minimum Runs Guide - Second Run
Second Run
This time, we're going for the misleadingly named "no items" achieve. In general, look at as little as possible and don't pick up anything unless it's specifically mentioned below.

The Mansion
  • Just go to the painting room, hit the button, then exit to the basemenet

The Basement
  • Head straight for the broken ladder, just jump down - you'll be fine

The Sewer
  • Go straight right to valve room 1
  • Close valve 1 as before, then go back to the hall
  • Head right and close values 2, 3, and 4
  • Return to the Exit door, go through
  • Climb down into the pool and continue right
  • Move up and right to the exit, then on to the forest

The Forest
  • Go left past the tower to the forest entrance
  • Take the first bush tunnel and go past the credit card to the next tunnel
  • At the camp site, take the right tunnel to outside the restroom
  • The right tunnel from there brings you to the forest exit, move left to the factory

The Factory
  • Move left to the lower stairwell
  • Go to the top, then move left to reactivate three electric panels
  • Return to the middle floor and turn on the two electric panels to the right
  • Back down to the ground floor and use the now-active door to the left to continue to Norman's house

Norman's House
  • Go through the alleys and into Norman's house
  • Head upstairs and left to the kitchen
  • Take the hairpin from the kitchen garbage - don't worry, it's okay
  • Return downstairs, use the hairpin to open the shop door then keep left to your house

Your House
  • Go through the alleys, through the backyard and kitchen to the lower hall, then up to the middle hall and thence the upper hall
  • Move right to the study, take the basement key from the laptop - this one is safe too
  • Backtrack to the lower hall and use the basement key on the basement door. Use it.
  • Search the right half of the garbage pile to get the old key (yes, it's also okay) and check the wall to the left
  • Head back up to the middle hall and use the old key to open the rampage room door to the right
  • Enter the rampage room and take the crowbar (that's the last item for the no-item achieve)
  • Return to the basement, and open the left wall with the crowbar. Press on left to the rag pile
  • Say the pile does not contain wife for I like to remember things my own way. This will trigger the sleep sequence
  • Once you regain control, make a beeline for the basement, and check the hole. This will allow you to use the front door
  • Leave through the froont door to get Slipping away for your ending and Like it never even happened for beating the game without using any items (where none = four)

This should only leave the Eraser achieve.
Minimum Runs Guide - Third Run
If you've been following the guide so far, you should only need Eraser. If you've missed anything else, you can see how to get them in the earlier parts of the guide. Eraser can be combined with any other achieve other than A close call, A warm place, Slipping awat, and As if it never even happened.

Assuming you only need Eraser you can pretty much play however you like. However, you will need a few specific steps.

The Basement
  • Make sure you pick up the gun from the first room

Norman's House
  • Do not return the gun to Norman's gun rack

Your House
  • You probably need to find Rachel in the rag pile
  • After the dream sequence you probably need to build some guilt
  • Once you've returned to the hole in the basement wall, you can move to the kitchen
  • Inspect the table to get the option to end it with the gun, choose "yes". This will get you what is hopefully the last achieve, Eraser
Closing
Hi again. I hope this guide has helped a few of you burn off some remaining achievements. Personally, I didn't find much replay value in Home, but the achievement runs are quick enough that 100% it isn't all that painful.

Thanks again to All Hail King Server for their Safe code guide.

Thank God your dad didn't pull out I've been trying to do the kitchen end for like an hour

Since I was able to get the "Slipping Away" achievement in my first playthrough without the guide I aimed for the Eraser achievement in the 2nd run of the guide together with the Lite it never even happened achievement. It worked. I only had to pickup the gun from the table in the basement and after the 2nd time looking at the wall in the basement head over to the kitchen table.

Thanks for this great guide, was a perfect help!

I figured it out yesterday, THX anyway.

From the sounds of it, you need the key ring from the dead guard? Have a look for that and let me know?
有猫的尾巴 28 Oct, 2019 @ 8:01am
Hi, do you know how to unlock the door in the sewer? Just right next to the number one sewer room. I can't find keys elsewhere. THX

Ok a last comment, I've just done a minimalist run for my last missing achievement (Eraser), and some of the steps in the guide weren't necessary. The only things I needed was the gun from the basement, finding Rachel, picking up the gun again, interacting with the hole, going to the kitchen and choosing to kill myself. I didn't even interact with anything not absolutely necessary to pass the levels, including any of the dead bodies.
kazerniel 20 Oct, 2018 @ 5:19am
Ok I think the solution was that I haven't picked up the notebook before from the crack of rock in the forest. This time with that, plus interacting with everything in the campsite and the girls gave me the achievement.
kazerniel 14 Oct, 2018 @ 5:14pm
I only saw the campfire, chairs and tent (plus the bodies, then grave). But in that playthrough I haven't interacted with anything that wasn't strictly necessary in the basement and tunnel. I'll have to do another playthrough anyway, I'll try to interact with everything leading up to the forest, maybe there's an element missing there.
nemo_annonymous  [author] 14 Oct, 2018 @ 4:39pm
It's been a long time, but i think it was when you inspect the grave. In hindsite i should have listed how many points of interest there are in the campsite, but I'd guess you missed one?
