Foreword
Hi guys,
This is just an intro to a Kingdom of Asturias walkthrough that i am playing. The plan is to start in 768 at the Charlemagne marker in CK II, playing till the end of CK II and converting to EU IV to finish the game in 1821. We will be following King Aurelio's Bloodline and hope for the best. I will be releasing 1 guide per ruler, if the ruler reigns for a long time it may be 2 or 3. If this doesnt get interest ill just can the project. Hopefully you have as much fun reading it as i will playing.

Thanks,
Solly
Background
The Early Middle Ages started with the fall of the Western Roman Empire in the 5th Century.

The earlier part of this era saw the great Germanic and Slavic migrations across Europe, with peoples such as the Goths and Lombards settling in Southern Europe, the Franks settling in Gaul and Saxons crossing the sea and settling in Britain.

The Eastern Roman Empire was violently shaken by the pressure from the Goths and Avars, and fought bitterly with an ancient Persian enemy.

The rise of Islam saw the Arabs conquering immense amount of territory in the Middle East and North Africa, and in India several great dynasties vied for dominance, with the Rashtrakutas rising towards the end of the 8th century.

In the steppes, the Khazars grew in power, and in Scandinavia things were about to change in a way that was to affect the entire continent…

The Kingdom
Consisting of 8 counties, The Kingdom of Asturias is a small kingdom on the Iberian Peninsula. It is surrounded on all sides by the Umayyad Sultanate. The kingdom is under threat of being overrun by its Muslim neighbours as each ruler vies for control of the peninsula. King Aurelio de Cantabria, the current ruler of Asturias, is a devout catholic and wishes to rid his rightful land of the Infidels.

Despite being outnumbered, however, he has help just on the other side of the Pyrenean Mountains. The Kingdoms of West and Middle Francia, owned by Karl and Karloman Karling respectively, are willing to help make sure Catholicism doesn’t vanish from the Iberian Peninsula.

Together these three rulers will remove the Muslim threat and help a kingdom into an empire.
The King
Aurelio de Cantabria was the first born son of Froila de Cantabria, nephew of King Adelfonso I and cousin of King Froila the Cruel. Born in Leon in 715 to Froila de Cantabria and an unknown woman, Aurelio was 4th in line for the Asturian throne.

However after a few assassinations in the family he was crowned king by the Asturian nobility in 768. When his uncle, King Adelfonso, died naturally in 757, his son Froila was crowned king.

Eager to secure his bloodline as rulers he assassinated his brother, Wimarano, in 767.

However his scheming made him some enemies and he was promptly murdered just a year later.

This left the kingdom without a king, and by traditional Agnatic-Cognatic Elective Succession, the nobles crowned Aurelio, the closest male heir, King. The year is 769 and at age 54 we join his story
