The Letter that came along with the Manuscript
My dear prince,

I have taken measures to ensure that this manuscript finds you. With the imminent fall of our great city, it is your duty as the rightful heir to safeguard the family banner and ensure the survival of your legacy. I bestow upon you the wisdom I found during my long reign and the little information I've gathered on the last days leading to the end of the life as you know. With this knowledge you shall have the means to survive this vile invasion that scourges our land.

Take your horse and ride west into the sunset until you find a new land to settle. Only then read the rest of the manuscript in which I've inscribed the knowledge you need to survive from this day forth.

Each section explains one of many subjects you shall master to survive and thrive one this new land.

My heart rejoices knowing that you, my son, will survive all of this and triumph. This is your time, your chance. It is your glorious fate.

Your Loving Mother.
The Horse
The Alusian breed is noble and strong and its members are known for their intelligence and sensitivity. It is said that they are descendants from Sorraia, the Hunter God’s Mare. Your steed is one of the fine alusian specimens whose family is in our House for generations, since the end of the Night Vale Siege.

Your steed is your best friend. It will keep you away from danger and shorten the distance of what I know will become a vast Kingdom. Take good care of your horse and it will take care of you as well.

As any horse, it likes to eat fresh grass from the fields. Whenever you have time to spare, stop and let it feed. A well fed steed will serve you at its best performance and go further before exhaustion.

You've always been a great rider and an accomplished horseman. Your Father has taught you well. I remember, even now, when he used to give you some advice. "Pace yourself ", he would say, "and know when to walk and to gallop...".

Do not demand more from the poor animal then it can give you. At any circumstance allow yourself to be in danger when your horse is fatigued. Thus, if you must venture deep into the woods alone, do it at a reasonable pace and prepare yourself to run away.
The Royal Calling
As rulers appointed by the gods, our House was encumbered with the glorious task of bring order to the Land. Ours is a long and proud line of kings and queens that trace back to the creation of the world. This is your Legacy, the most sacred of callings: to be a bastion of order and peace to your subjects.

Distinct from the common folk, a King is raised to rule and learns from early age the ways through which to protect the Kingdom. Unfortunately, your education was halted by the appearance of the Scourge, but you were taught the fundamentals which from the time being shall suffice.

Remember this: the Crown is the ultimate symbol of the monarchy. It is your legacy, my Prince, and as such it must be kept safe at all costs. “Without a Crown, There is no King”; engrave those words into your mind.
The People
From humble beginnings, you shall elevate the common folk into greatness. It is part of your mission to make the life of your subjects better and safer than it would ever be in the wild. To bring forth dignity and loyalty from them you must first give them a better life. To start, clothe and feed them so they can make the journey into the Kingdom center. There, you shall assign them a trade and give them a purpose to live for.

A king shall never act with his own hands. And the reason is simple: time. Your time is more precious than anyone else’s. As the leader and head of state, your decisions shall shape the Land. You just will not have the time to waste on trivial tasks when there is a Kingdom to reign.

Therefore, you will need exert your will through your subjects. Make clear your intentions and your subjects shall shape the Land in accordance to your will. And that’s the way to proper rule over them.

Your subjects are the purpose of your rule. Protect them and they shall be loyal to the end.
The Economy
The Ruler of a Kingdom must have both the vision and the mean to accomplish that vision. You must direct the division of work so your subjects, and therefore the kingdom, may prosper.

In the early stages of development, Hunters shall provide the sustenance necessary for the people. Bearing arrow and bow, they will look for game in the proper places. They will not, naturally, venture alone deep into the woods, their rightful home, since they are most afraid of the Scourge. You may help by herding bigger game closer to the Hunters.

The Builders take up the hammer and axe, and with wood and stone they expand your Kingdom. The roads, wall, homes, farms, to make all of this is the trade of the Builders. Remember to pace your expansion in accordance with the Moon, for the night brings dark things to your borders.

Hearing the song of seasons, the Farmers grow life out of water and light. Their work is most vulnerable when outside the walls of the kingdoms, so every dusk, they come in search of protection. When ready to house farmers around the fields, do it only when these are under the protection of the walls.

And that is the basic elements of the Wealth of Kingdoms.

Do not spend the wealth in frivolous pleasures, my Prince. Use it to lay the foundations over which your Kingdom may rise.
