How to Beat the Game (New Game)
By AaToSMeD
This is a guide to help players in beating the game from beginning to end so that more players can experience the "end game" content and have a better appreciation of the concept of permadeath.

Introduction
Let me first start by telling you all that I almost quit playing this game because I couldn't get past the jungle levels. I was frustrated for a long while and then by some chance, I made it all the way to the last boss. I still died, mind you; but then I realized how the game worked like a puzzle. My eyes lit up and a whole new aspect of the game opened wide for me. I was able to make the dungeon work with me as opposed to the dungeon killing me with fear at every turn. After some "puzzle solving", I figured out the correct formula on how to beat the game from beginning to end. And so here I am now, sharing this guide with you.

The beauty of this game is in unlocking the puzzles and uncovering its mysteries. The game truly opens up when you unravel them and it would be a shame if I were to spoil every single detail the game has to offer. This is why my guide only focuses on getting you to the end boss and beating it (ironically, it isn't the end when you beat it). This is done by informing you on what to do and when to do it; while leaving out all the other aspects of the game to be joyfully discovered on your own.
I will also assume that you have at least attempted to play the game for at least more than 1 hour.
Quick Notes
So that I don't read like a broken record, here are the expanded definitions of some choice words/phrases:

Always Running:
  • I will assume that you are always holding on to the SHIFT key unless your speed is way too fast to handle due to the quickness upgrade.

Collect All Possible Gold:
  • Sweep the entire dungeon
  • Kill all enemies; have them "respawn" by running back and forth all the areas
  • Look for chests
  • Hit pots

Nearly Unstoppable:
  • Having collected all (7) 100g upgrades
  • Having collected 600g worth of 15g upgrades (40)
  • Nothing should give you much difficulty except for traps, rock monsters or standing still against enemies
Start New Game
01 - Prison Dungeon - Pershdal Dungeons c.948
  • Look for the sword and shield
  • Collect All Possible Gold - you should be able to get somewhere around 30 - 50 gold.
  • DO NOT use the 15g shrine upgrade - wait for the 100g shrines.
02 - Prison Dungeon - All Locked Up With Someplace To Go
  • Do not engage the boss - don't touch the locked gate yet. Until you...
  • Take note of the traps - do not activated them or dispose of them.
  • Collect All Possible Gold - You should now have enough for one 100g shrine upgrade.
  • Get a 100g Shrine Upgrade - if you are lucky, you will get either regeneration, fireproof or blood exchange. If you get fireproof then it will make your fights with enemies much easier since you can use the fire traps to your advantage. If you get regeneration then you can take breaks between fights. If you get blood exchange, every enemy you kill heals you. But if you get any of the other 4, don't worry about it, it's fine; that's 1 out of 7 upgrades we need to get anyway. After this, you can now...
  • Engage the boss - The strategy differs depending on who comes out but what remains the same is the utilization of the traps and a little luck factor on getting fireproof upgrade.

Swordsman: Lure the swordsman to the traps. If you have fireproof, lure them into the fire. One dose should be enough and with a few extra hits the swordsman should be down. Hit him better by circling him with strafe-jump-hit combo while using the shield to block when he decides to strike you. If he is with a group, do the same tactics above, the difference is that you need to make sure that you kill the other enemies first so that you are not crowded.

Fire Archer: Always go close-range and hit him. He will not have a chance to shoot you with a fire arrow if you just keep hitting him. This fight is even easier if you have fireproof. If you do get hit with fire and are burning to death, run TOWARDS him and hit him. Running away will just give him another chance to shoot you with another fire arrow. If he is with a group, ignore them and just focus on killing the fire archer first.

  • Get 15g Shrine Upgrades - After beating the boss and sweeping the dungeon once more, you should be able to get at least one 15g upgrade. Get as much as your gold permits. What you get doesn't matter since it is random; either the upgrades help or they don't. Alternatively, you can choose to save your gold so you can get the next 100g upgrade faster.
03 - Prison Dungeon - A Bone of Contention
  • Take note of the traps - save them for later.
  • Collect All Possible Gold
  • Take note of the path from the Skull room to the exit room - make sure you are able to run swiftly to the exit room after you touch the skull in chains.
  • Touch the Skull - Run to the exit room and when you get there you should encounter a skull dragon(?). It is a lot slower than the swordsman so kill it with the same strafe-jump-hit combo tactic.
  • Farm the skeleton archers - Roam around the dungeon but be sure to go to each room slowly so that you only spawn a few enemies at a time. Make sure you kill the skeleton warriors first then the archers after. Try not to get overwhelmed by getting trapped in a room. Run in a circle of rooms if possible. Kite them if you can (hit and run). Collect All Possible Gold.
  • Get 100g Shrine Upgrades - After you think you've had enough, get as many 100g upgrades as you can. Whatever is left, use it to get 15g upgrades or save it for a quicker 100g upgrade in the next level.
04 - Jungle Dungeon - Orcward Silences
  • Avoid rock monsters - you cannot kill them
  • Collect All Possible Gold - this area should be a breeze compared to where you just came from.
  • Get 100g Shrine Upgrades - Get as many 100g upgrades as you can. Whatever is left, use it to get 15g upgrades or save it for a quicker 100g upgrade in the next level.
05 - Jungle Dungeon - Sticks, Stones and Broken Bones
  • Collect All Possible Gold
  • Collect all 100g Shrine Upgrades - BEFORE you touch the skull in chains, you should have already acquired all (7) upgrades from the 100g Shrines. If not, you will after battling the skeleton horde in this dungeon.
  • Take note of the path from the Skull room to the exit room - make sure you are able to run swiftly to the exit room after you touch the skull in chains.
  • Touch the Skull - Run to the exit room and when you get there you should encounter a skull dragon(?). Use the same tactic from before. There will be MORE THAN ONE this time around. If possible, make use of the rock monsters as your "ally" in defeating the skeleton hordes.
  • Farm the skeleton archers/magicians - Much of the same from before. Just be careful as to not get trapped between them and the rock monsters.
  • Collect all (7) 100g Shrine Upgrades - You should definitely max this out now.
  • Collect 15g Shrine Upgrades - spend all (600?) of your available gold. Since the buffs given are random, your only concern is in deciding how much you are willing to spend, regardless of what you end up getting. Take a screenshot, share with us what random upgrades you had collected!

"I got really lucky with Fortify in this game"
From 06 Up To 20
  • Nearly Unstoppable - With all the upgrades you have acquired, this next area and all the way to the end should be simple walks in the park. Typically, enemies will barely hurt you and every time you kill something your life regenerates. All your upgrades turn you into an unstoppable force. Death will only come if you purposely set-off traps, allow the enemies to crowd you or let the rock monster pummel you. In-fact, I doubt you even need to press SHIFT now. There are some more upgrades available for you to discover so that means some gold grinding may be required (3000g).
  • Collect All Possible Gold
  • In dungeon 10 - Dungeon Entrance - Freedom, make sure that you take the sword.
  • Enjoy the rest of the game!
20 - I Have A Bone To Pick With You
  • How to Beat the Final Boss - activate your time manipulating powers (F key) and keep it on. Damage the boss by hitting while moving forward a bit and then moving against its traveling direction. Doing this will ensure that you don't get hurt in the process of giving it damage.

Congratulations, you beat the game! Let the credits roll and see what lies next!
Final Thoughts
The basic idea is to get the seven 100g upgrades as soon as possible. You will not get any duplicates unlike the 15g upgrades, so that means the pool of probability is 1 out of 7, decreasing by 1 every time you pay again. This is extremely more efficient and the sooner you get all seven, the better your chances are with surviving the rest of the game.

I hope my guide has been helpful for you. If you have comments, suggestions or found mistakes in this guide, then kindly let me know. Thank you for your time. I hope to see you all in the sequel!
