The iconic giant forest snake mini-boss from the PS2 game Dark Cloud.

It's been almost a year now since I made this guy. I built him for some promotional stuff I was making for my Dark Cloud-themed TF2 set, and I ended up using him only once. He's a complete hand paint job, which is saying something, since at the time I was painting him my tools would crash every 5 minutes while in texture paint mode. It made him rather agonizing to complete.

He's based on the mini-boss of the same name from Dark Cloud. You would encounter him in an action sequence half way through the forest areas of the game. If you faced off against him with anything other than the Serpent Slicer(The red marble sword I released with the other pack), you would fail the battle, and instantly die. I found that there was very little reference imagery online, so I had to fudge a few of the details around the back of his head and behind his ears.

This was simply a clean up job. There was very little to rework, as he was fairly feature complete when I got to him. I did experiment in some additional rig scripting to see if I could get emulate IK splines/ragdoll in SFM, but it appears that this behavior would likely need to be implemented developer side.


Notes


-The mouth piece is rather comprehensive, with bones anchoring his cheeks and portions of his jaw. This allows you to stretch and pull his mouth into more creepy snake-like shapes and poses. It also supports extra stretchiness around the tongue.

-The tongue piece is detachable.

-The body portion features 20 joint bones for extra bendiness.

-I've tweaked the body portion so it responds better to Forward Kinematics(FK) transformations.

-Utilizes a phongexponent map to cull out excess light when shining into his mouth. This only covers small amounts of light. Powerful lights will still blowout the texture.

Im gonna take a 'stab' at this but im guessing this model wouldnt work on gmod at all cause of its specs huh?
