Warning for Logitech G27 users! G27 centering problem cause
By Mr. Beerscuit
The dreaded optical encoder G27 problem, how to prevent and how to fix if you are out of warranty or just want to do it yourself. This is a reference guide from research I did myself to fix my wheel.

How I fixed my G27 wheel, why it broke and how to prevent it. Do it at your own risk.
Hey guys this is for the new G27 users/buyers, I bought mine about 6 months ago all new and I started having wheel misalignment while playing. I found out it was my optical encoder (wheel with spokes very similar to those on a mouse) that was cracked and was making the encoder slip when in fast movements. The reason it cracked it was because the screws around the optical sensor was ALL LOOSE! Looks like Logitech let them loose to eventually break something after the warranty is out dated or just to annoy you (like me) and make you waste time and energy trying to get warranty from crappy support team. I just didn't want to waste maybe months to get a warranty replacement or repair so I repaired it myself by putting just a little plastic glue on the top of the pole and the encoder to make it not slip and its working like new again.

Just be warned your wheel will probably have this problem if you use it very often specially if you use FFB 107% to remove some of the center deadzone, if you don't care about the warranty and have time to spare I recommend new G27 owners to find someone with basic electronics knowledge to open the wheel and check ALL the screws around the optical sensor and tighten all up and check if the center moving cog is perfectly in center of the plastic piece with dents before remounting the wheel, if your wheel is off-center by a bit is because of misplaced center cog. This will probably make your wheel never have the problem of cracked optical encoder. If you choose to do it yourself like me, do research about G27 Optical encoder or wheel centering problem.

Another alternative is getting a brass optical encoder replacement from this website:
http://www.cmlaserservice.com/page_g25_g27_optical_encoder_wheel.html

Again, a warning, you will probably lose rights for the warranty if you open the wheel. Do it at your own risk.

I had another issue with Logitech G400S mouse, issue related to "suspicious" factory manufacture procedure with loose screws too. Be warned of Logitech products. Looks like they are designed to break after sometime of use by default. I learned my lesson, never going to buy Logitech products again.

I replaced my broken plastic encoder with a brass one. My G27 now centralized on start up, and it drives 100% straight in Forza 5. But every other game it does not drive straight. I don't know why :(

I play with a wiimote.

Same problem for G25 owners, and the same solutions. Superglue works fine. I threw my G25s away before I found the solution to the problem, lol, just like the thieves at Logitech intended. Design obsolescence it's called, and they made a new obsolescence for the G29, because people found out about the solution to the optical encoder issue. Now the deliberate vandalism of their own product is the wires that connect the wheel buttons to the base of the wheel.

They crimp the wires onto the wheel, and onto the base, as they must, but the crimps are only five millimetres apart. What this means is that rotation of the wheel causes the wires to "work harden" over time, and break. That's why the new wheels do the start up rotate thingy twice now, instead of once like the G25 used to do, so that it breaks these wires sooner. I was a fan of Logitech until I found out about their fascination with design obsolescence. Now I will never buy another of their products, because I can't trust them. I bought three G25s, a G27, and a G29 over the years, believing that they were on my side, but now I just feel betrayed and angry.

Reminds me of the logitech extreme 3D pro joysticks which all get fucked after a while with rudder drift. I used to take mine apart weekly

I've had 3 or 4 G27's with cracked encoders. It's a common problem. Swapped a brass encoder into the last wheel and it's been fine for years.

Alright so i recently acquired a Logitech Driving Force pro and i plugged it into my PC just fine earlier today and it was working but 900 degree turning wasnt on and neither was forcefeedback. After downloading the Driver and doing a button combination (R3, Select, Left paddle shifter) it switched between 200 and 900 degree turning. but THEN i decided to be a ♥♥♥♥up and decide to do (R3,Select,Right paddleshifter) and after doing that my wheel turned on its own and now both LED lights are blinking green at the same time and no buttons are working. ANY help would be appreciated. Also im on windows 10. and i tried to delete the drivers and redownload them but it didnt work the first time. i might do it again. any suggestions? please get back to me.
Is it a broken encoder or is it something else? if it was a broken encoder you would think at least SOME of the buttons would work but its just two blinking lights and thats it.

did this about 7 times before getting my g29, became a standard 5 minute procedure for me

I think this is a case of luck. I have my G27 since 2011 and nothing is broken on it, and i used it aprox. 800-900 hours of playing.

I have a G29 and I cranked my settings up about 100% FFB, using it for about 9 months now and its a blast. My first wheel too.

But if the encoder goes to sh!t in less then 2 years, l'll safe to say that I will never buy a product from logitech ever again. 400$ wheel and been taking care of it, can't even last a couple of years, what kind of shit is that?!

And the same goes for my g300s mouse. But no loose screws, thank god. Only time can tell...
