Introduction
What is an item cap?
An item cap is a pretty basic term. If you're stacking one specific item, which means obtaining more of said item, the cap is simply the point, when the effect stops increasing after picking up more of the specific item. The items are categorised after rarity and alphabetical order. Most of these are confirmed, and any item not listed in this guide does not have a cap, according to my knowledge. Most of the information below can be found on the Risk of Rain wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com], but some of the information on that site is wrong and that is why you should check out this guide!

To do
If you have any great ideas to make the guide better, just shoot me a comment below!

This guide will no longer be updated, unless the game receives another update or if someone points out a mistake in the guide.
    Instructions
    1. Press Ctrl+F to open the top-right search bar.
    2. Search for any item. ---> If nothing is found, the item you searched for doesn't have a cap. <---
    3. You can open the guide in your overlay while playing, which is the purpose of this guide.

All items will be listed in this format:
    • (Name of item)
    • Effect: (Item effect)
    • Secondary effect: (Only present if the item has a secondary effect)
    • Stacking: (Describes how the main effect stacks)
    • Secondary stacking: (Describes how the secondary effect stacks)
    • Max effect: (Highest possible effect)
    • Cap: (Amount of items needed to output the max effect)
    • Status: (If the cap is confirmed or not)
    • Reason: (Only present if the cap is disconfirmed)
    • After testing: (Some notes I've written down after testing the said cap)
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com] (The specific item's wiki page)

    • Stacking: Additively - +5% per item.
    • Cap: 6
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Lens-Maker's Glasses
    • Effect: Your attacks have a 7% chance to critically strike, dealing double damage
(If no other crit chance increasing item has been picked already, picking up a

    • Cap: 14
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]

    • Stacking: Additively - +10 healing per item.
    • Cap: 1000
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Monster Tooth
    • Effect: Heal 10 health on kill.
    • Max effect: 10000+ healing per kill.
    • Stacking: Additively - +5 healing per item.
    • Cap: 1999
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Paul's Goat Hoof
    • Effect: +20% movement speed.
    • Max effect: Depends on character.
    • Stacking: Additively - +20% per item.
    • Cap: 24-25 - Depends on character (Each character has its own base
movement speed, and because of that, some characters require less hooves to attain maximum movement speed. I recommend getting no more than 20 since that will allow you to keep control of your movement.)
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Rusty Knife / Rusty Blade
    • Effect: 15% chance to bleed an enemy for 4x35% damage.
    • Max effect: 100% chance to bleed.
    • Stacking: Additively - +15% chance to bleed per item.
    • Cap: 7
    • Status: Confirmed
    • After testing: Chese characters seem to have a permanent low chance to proc the Rusty Knife on their basic attack:
      Acrid - Chef - Engineer
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Snake Eyes
    • Effect: Gain (5-6)?% crit chance upon failing a shrine. Stacks up to 6 failures.
    • Max effect: 100% crit chance on two eyes.
    • Stacking: ?
    • Cap: ?
    • Status: Disconfirmed
    • Reason: Frankly, I have absolutely no idea how this item stacks and caps out. This is a job for a dataminer.
    • After testing: It seems like the crit chance on a single eye has a cap below 100%.
      5 stacks 2 eyes = ~90-95% crit chance
      17 stacks 2 eyes = ~90-95% crit chance
      18 stacks 3 eyes = 100% crit chance
      22 stacks 1 eye = ~40-50% crit chance
      30 stacks 1 eye = ~40-50% crit chance
      30 stacks 2 eyes = 100% crit chance
      30 stacks 3 eyes = 100% crit chance
      30 stacks 5 eyes = 100% crit chance
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Soldier's Syringe
    • Effect: Increases attack speed by 15%.
    • Max effect: 195% attack speed.
    • Stacking: Additively - +15% per item.
    • Cap: 13 (depends on character and level - Huntress, Miner and Mercenary gain attack speed per level)
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    Uncommon Items (A-F)
    • 56 Leaf Clover
    • Effect: Elite mobs have a 4% chance to drop items.
    • Max effect: 100% chance to drop.
    • Stacking: Additively - +1.5% chance to drop per item.
      Example: 5 clovers nets you 4(from your first clover) + 1.5*4 = 10%
chance to drop. Thanks to Antylamon for providing this information.
    • Cap: 65 - Proof has been uploaded on my YT. To gain 100% drop rate with Sacrifice on, you would only need 58 clovers.
I'm pretty sure that the 65 cap is either:
      1. The numbers changed around, 56 - 65, a dev joke.
      2. A mistake made by the dev - the cap was meant to be 56, but set it at 65 by accident.
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Arms Race
    • Effect: 9% chance for drones to fire missiles and mortars.

    • Stacking: Multiplicatively - +6% per item.
    • Cap: 99% is reached at 75 Boxing Gloves
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Chargefield Generator
    • Effect: Killing an enemy generates a lightning ring,
dealing 100% damage for 6 seconds.
    • Max effect: No max effect.
    • Stacking: Additively - +10% damage per second, per item.
    • Secondary stacking: Killing an enemy increases the radius of the lightning ring.
    • Cap: Performance cap - The lightning ring caps at a radius of 300 pixels.
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Concussion Grenade
    • Effect: 6% chance to stun enemies for 2 seconds.
    • Max effect: ~100% chance to stun

    • Cap: 99% is reached at 75 Concussion Grenades
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Frost Relic
    • Effect: Killing an enemy surrounds you with 3 icicles that deal 3x33% damage.
    • Max effect: No max effect.
    • Stacking: Additively - +1 icicles per kill, per item.
    • Cap: Performance cap - Icicles will only spawn from your first three kills. Subsequent kills will refresh the duration of existing icicles.
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    Uncommon Items (I-T)
    • Infusion
    • Effect: Killing an enemy increases your maximum health permanently by 1.
    • Max effect: 9999 max health (Can be increased past 9999
      using Guardian's Heart).
    • Stacking: Additively - Increase the health gained on kill by 0.5.
    • Cap: "1" Having more than 1 Infusion is not necessary, since the cap will be reached no matter how many you have. If you want to speed up the process, simply collect more Infusions.
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Leeching Seed
    • Effect: Damaging an enemy heals you for 2 health.
    • Max effect: +9998 health on hit.
    • Stacking: Additively - +1 health on hit per item.
    • Cap: 9997
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Predatory Instincts
    • Effect: Critical strikes increase attack speed by 11%.
Stacks up to 30% at three hits.
    • Secondary effect: Increase crit chance by 5%.
    • Max effect: ??% attack speed, 100% crit chance
    • Stacking: Additively - +1% attack speed per item.
    • Secondary stacking: Additively - +5% crit chance per item.
    • Cap: ? - This item has two caps:
      • Passive - Like you normally stack an item. Just pick up multiple Predatory Instincts. The attack speed does not have a cap, but of course the crit chance does. This cap is reached at 20 Predatory Instincts.
      • Activation - When you hit an enemy with a critical strike, your attack speed goes up. This caps at three critical hits. This cap is mentioned in the item log too.
    • Status: Awaiting confirmation
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Prison Shackles
    • Effect: Slow enemies by 20% on every attack for 1 second.
    • Max effect: 60% slowing.
    • Stacking: Additively - +20% and 0.5 second duration per item.
    • Cap: 3 (The duration doesn't cap though)
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Red Whip
    • Effect: Leaving combat for 1.5 seconds increases movement speed by 80%.
    • Max effect: 80% increase in movement speed
    • Stacking: Not stackable.
    • Cap: 1
    • Status: Confirmed.
    • After testing: In my opinion, this is one of the worst items in the game. My reasoning is the fact that you will lose partial control of your movement, because your agility will be affected by taking damage or using an ability. This also includes abilites like Commando's roll, or the Huntress' teleport, which are mainly used to dodge or increase movement speed. I would much rather take a little less, but permanent increase in movement speed with Paul's Goat Hoof.
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Rusty Jetpack
    • Effect: Decrease gravity by 5% and increase jump height by 6.6667%.
    • Max effect:
    • Stacking: Additively - -5% gravity and +6.6667% jump height.
    • Cap: 15 for max jump height(6), 18 for lowest gravity(-90%)
    • Status: Awaiting confirmation on gravity, jump height has been confirmed.
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Time Keeper's Secret
    • Effect: Falling to low health stops time for 3 seconds.
    • Max effect: 10 seconds.
    • Stacking: Additively - +1s duration per item.
    • Cap: 8
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Tough Times
    • Effect: Increase armor by 14.
    • Max effect: "100%" dmg reduction - you'll never truly obtain 100%.
    • Stacking: Additively - +14 armor per item.
    • Cap: Chart[i.imgur.com]- The formula for calculating your current dmg reduction is Armor/(Armor+100). It has very diminishing returns after stacking 20 Tough Times, so I won't recommend getting any more. You can keep on stacking if you want to. You won't get madly low returns per item before you have around 30 Tough Times.

    • Effect: A 7% chance on hitting an enemy to fire three missiles that deal 3x300% damage.
    • Max effect: 100% chance.
    • Stacking: Additively - +7% per item.
    • Cap: 15

    • Beating Embryo
    • Effect: Use items have a 30% chance to deal double the effect.
    • Max effect: 100% chance.
    • Stacking: Additively - +30% per item.
    • Cap: 4
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Heaven Cracker
    • Effect: Every 4th basic attacks pierce through enemies for 100% damage.
    • Max effect: Every basic attack pierce.
    • Stacking: Additively - 1 attack less needed to activate per item.
    • Cap: 4
    • Status: Confirmed
    • After testing: Note that this item overrides your basic attack, so you will have to decide whether you want your basic, the piercing attack or a combination. Obtaining 4 will remove the cleavers from Chef's basic attack and the bombs from Engineer's basic.
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Interstellar Desk Plant
    • Effect: Upon killing an enemy, a plant will spawn that heals you by 8 on pickup. These plants have a cooldown of 6 seconds before regrowing its healing flower.
    • Max effect: +9998 health upon picking up a plant.
    • Stacking: Additively - +3 health on pickup per item.
    • Cap: 3331
    • Status: Confirmed
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Laser Turbine
    • Effect: Every ability charges the generator, which fires at full power.
      The laser does 2000% damage.
    • Max effect: ?
    • Stacking: Multiplicatively?
    • Cap: Depends on the ability
    • Status: Disconfirmed
    • Reason: Another job for a dataminer, just like Snake Eyes.
    • After testing: It seems to stack multiplicatively. Attack speed seems to have an impact on how many uses are needed before a specific ability powers the generator. It also seems to have a slight cooldown between each fire. With maximum attack speed on Commando, you would need 25 Laser Turbines to fire the laser every time you perform the tactical dive.
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Permafrost
    • Effect: 16~18% chance to stun enemies for 1.5 seconds and slow enemies
      by 60% for 3 seconds.
    • Max effect: 16%~18% chance.
    • Stacking: Not stackable.
    • Cap: 1
    • Status: Awaiting confirmation
    • After testing: The current cap seems correct. If the chance is actually 16-18% needs to be tested.
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Rapid Mitosis
    • Effect: Reduce the cooldown of use items by 25%.
    • Max effect: ~100% CDR.

    • Repulsion Armor

    • Status: Awaiting confirmation?
    • Wikia[riskofrain.wikia.com]
    • Thallium
    • Effect: Damage/slow by 500 enemy damage% and 100% speed over 3 seconds.

    • The Hit List
    • Effect: Killing a randomly marked enemy permanently increases damage by 0.5.
    • Max effect: 20 extra dmg (Enemies will still be marked after reaching the cap).
    • Stacking: Additively - Picking up another Hit List will increase the maximum
amount of markable enemies at once by 1.
1 Hit List = 1 mark at a time, 2 Hit Lists = 2 marks at a time and so on.
    • Cap: "1" Having more than 1 Hit List is pointless, since the cap should be reached rather fast.

    • Max effect: 9999 maximum health, "100"% dmg reduction
      - you'll never truly obtain 100%.
    • Stacking: Additively - +40 maximum health, +1.2 health per second and +6 armor.

    • Stacking: Additively - +3 armor per item.
    • Cap: Chart[i.imgur.com] - The formula for calculating your dmg reduction is Armor/(Armor+100). Trying to stack these is a complete waste of your time,

    • Enigma / Small Enigma
The Artifact of Enigma makes your use item have a random effect each time
you activate it. The cooldown is based on which effect it has. If it spawns a chest, corresponding to the effect of Captain's Brooch, it will have a base cooldown of
135 seconds. If it generates a shield around you, it has a base cooldown of 45 seconds, which is the cooldown of the Shield Generator. To decrease your cooldown, you can pick up Small Enigmas:
    • Effect: Decrease cooldown by ~5%.
    • Max effect: Less than 1 sec cooldown.
    • Stacking: "Oddly" - CD'new' = 0.05 + (1-0.05) * CD'old' - Check wikia comments for explanation.

@Chillwax - "Missing" items are not capped and stack until integer overflow. The only missing item, which is indeed capped according to my knowledge, would be Burning Witness.

Do you plan on adding more to this list? theres quiet a few items missing

@Snake_Man1221 - I guess Burning Witness has a movement speed cap at 4x that of Paul's Goat Hoof, if we just look at the data on the wiki. The other stats stack "forever".
