Tom's Tips
By Tacticool_Bloop
This guide will be a simple list of tips for new players to Arma 3. Don't expect any tips like "what angle should I throw a grenade at in Stratis to kill the largest number of snakes in September?" The answer is six but we don't need any more things like that. Now, enjoy the guide and have fun.

Open Fields
When moving in the Armaverse there are many things to keep in mind, lets talk about them.

If you ever come to an open field in Arma you should not start crossing it until you have taken a look around. Look for clumps of trees, bushes, small objects, or strange movement. If you see a civ. blow up in the middle of the field you were about to cross it may be a sign you should find a new path. The things that I have listed are all things that may give you reason to be more careful. Snipers could be in the bushes, those small objects could be mines or IED's, those rocks may hide an MG team. As a rule, when you cross a field, scan the area before you advance and stay alert as you go.
Mine Fields
Alot can be said for minefields. There are generally three types of minefields and a variety of different mines that could be used. I will start by listing the mine field types and offering a brief description.

-Anti-Personnel Mines -Anti-personnel or AP mines are generally used to slow or damage/kill advancing units. an MRAP will take very little damage and most armored vehicles won't be affected at all.

-Anti-Tank Mines - Anti-tank mines or AT mines generally only target personnel in armored vehicles such as LAV's, Tanks, or other heavy vehicles

-Mixed Minefields -Mixed Minefields are nothing more than a mix between AP and AT mines. These are used to defend against most land based threats.

Water Based Mines. -By far the rarest mines in the Armaverse these things can ruin your boating trip in no time at all. Usually just below the surface or in 3D fields these things can really mess up your coastal invasion.
Urban Environments
Urban environments make up a large portion of combat in Arma. I could go and write a length description of what to do and what not to do but CQC or CQB is a very difficult threat to deal with. To help you along I've decided to include a number of videos that I feel cover the subject as best as possible. Enjoy.

Video one here show what you should look like. Keep in mind these guys are VERY good at what they are doing. Most people won't use these skills every time they enter a room. I will not lie though, after I received my CQ training I died far fewer times in entering rooms.

Video Two is a good training video. If you know nothing of the matter I advise you to watch it.

Dealing With People
If you have ever played Patrol Operations you will know that people can be a thorn in the side. The best way to deal with them is to be as indirect a possible. They will hate you and, if you are in command, leave you alone. (not true in all cases, this is just a tip, not a rule.)
Aircraft and their Crews
In Arma there are a decent number of air assets available to you. Lets see what we've got to work with.

Transport- These guys get you from point A to point B where you then got shot and flown back to point C.
Multi-role- These guys get you from point A to point B and then shoot the bad guys so they don't have to fly you to point C.

CAS- These guys are the ones who send the enemy to point C.

Buzz-off. Buzz-off or buzz off is the fancy term you are allowed to yell at an airman who has decideed to me a @#!% and hover over you during a time where they are not needed/wanted. From my own time playing P03 I can tell you for sure that if you yell it loud enough they will listen. (joke) If they don't listen I recomend the M-136 (AT-4, not base game AT rocket) or the (very base game rocket) PCML rocket system be fired in the direction of the crew compartment of their airframe.

Always remember, don't pressure the airmen. Their job is to keep their airframe safe. Rare are the times in which your mission goes before their aircraft. Always respect that fact.
General Tips 01: Having Fun
Tip One: Having Fun

The gameplay that makes Arma great is only achievable if people are respectful. When you work together you can achieve so much more than what you can do on your own. Respect the people with whom you work and things will be fine. As many people are slowly getting off of their COD and BF4 the community has the potential to get salty. Try to be the one to make a game positive. Playing Wasteland? Take some guys prisoner and release them once they are unarmed. See a team member who is having a rough day? Say hello and make a new friend. Arma is best with friends so don't be shy to make some.

Tip Two: Don't be stupid.

There are times to laugh and times to be serious. Do your best to know how you should be acting.
If there is a sniper don't be the one to leave because you decided to stand up in the middle of a field.

Tip Three: Don't be stupid.

This point is key, so just don't forget that every single person is important in Arma. Even the ammo guy is still a key part of the operation.
General Tips 02: Playing Well
T1-If there is a valley filled with bad guys, keep the high ground.

T2-whenever possible maximise your concealment and cover.

T3- Follow your squad leader's orders to the most reasonable sense. If he says "run past that MG team and flank it" he might have an idea. If three people have already followed that order tell him to reconsider it and enjoy the remaining few seconds of your life.

T4-Communicate as best as possible. (language) That little bit of Spanish or German might just save your life in Arma. Don't be the one to call out their problems, be the one to find a fix for them.

T5- Communicate clearly with your team. Know who you are working with and call out any information that they may need to know. Example you: "Hey, we've got 3x guys moving south bearing 097."

Example of what not to do. You: "Hey, hey, is that a white and gold dress or a blue and black one?, oh, and there is a truck driving towards the OP."

T6- OP means Observation Post
T6.2- HQ means Headquarters
T6.3- FOB means Forward Operating Base
T6.4- MSR means Military/main supply route
T6.5- AR means Automatic rifleman (aka the light machine gun)
T6.6- SL means Squad Leader
T6.7- TL means Team Lead
T6.8- We don't have time for T6.1 or T6.9

@Alex150201 I was in a unit for about two weeks before I was kicked out. The leaders didn't agree with me on a large number of issues (politics, ACE medical, and RHS) so I'm no longer in one. Sorry.
