Newbie Tutorial
By ledeir
The general consensus is that the in game tutorial is... lacking.
This is a newbie's guide for newbies to allow you to quickly jump into the game.
It will properly explain what the tutorial is actually telling you to do.

Introduction
THIS IS A WORK IN PROGRESS
You can expect me to tweak and fix the formatting as well as updating the text.
Please share your comments and suggestions!
Also, if someone could get screenshots of the tutorial text it would be appreciated. Since I already completed it, the text wasn't displaying.

Despite its simplicity QuestRun is an enjoyable game. Unfortunately it takes some time before you understand what is going on and the in game tutorial needs some work.

Here is a proper explanation of what you need to know in the tutorial.
Choose Your Quest
The title screen requires little explanation, there isn't even an options menu. At this point all you need to do is click "Play"

That will bring you to the world map.

Yours will look a little different than my own, I have already completed a few quests.

Click around and see what they are, though the one you care about is the Peasants Training Quest. Once you click GO the game begins.

IMPORTANT The game is timer driven. As soon as you start things will begin to happen. You pause by pressing the "Esc" key or clicking the pause button in the top right.

Know Your Party
Once the game begins you will see this screen.
There is a lot of information here, most of it is obvious, but when time is passing and your heroes are dying it can be hard to take in.

Your party is on the left. You start with three characters.

The enemy can be found on the right.

The next rounds opponents are shown on the far right. If you see an X that means the row is empty that wave.

There are three bits of information which are always displayed about your party members. There is a heart with their current life, a charge bar which shows how long until they act, and their weapons. This little guy is your Paladin. He is equipped with a sword and no shield and is full at 50 life.

There's more to him than that though! You can see some of that when you click on a hero. Here you can see the hero's name (Paladin), level (1), XP (you get one dot for every kill, three dots and you level up), special powers (this Paladin has only one, and you can scroll over it for details), and currently equipped gear.

If you want even MORE information, when you pause (with "Esc" or the pause button) you are brought to the hero detail screen.

This shows EVERYTHING about your Paladin.

  • Attack: How much damage you do. Your weapon determines if you use Physical or Magic.
  • Speed: How quickly your charge bar fills.
  • Health: Your life.
  • Luck: How likely you are to find good items.
  • Defense: How much damage you resist.
  • Dodge: How well you avoid getting hit.
  • Special: The current level of your Special Ability. The icon at the bottom shows what your ability is.
  • Charisma: The likelihood that "The Gnome" will give you something good.

For all these numbers bigger is better. If the number is Green then it is enhanced by an item (or ability) you have. In your game, take your time and look at each character's stats and abilities. There are other guides which currently discuss that!
Fight!
Your heroes, and the enemies, are quite bloodthirsty. If they are in the same row as an enemy, they will start charging their attack. No clicking required! They will attack anytime their bar is full.

Unless they are equipped with a ranged weapon, they will only charge when they are facing an enemy. If they are facing an empty section then they will stand there and drool. This is important since the enemies spawn in waves and new ones won't appear until the previous wave is complete.

Note: There are some exception levels where enemies spawn on screen rather than in waves, but that is a special case scenario.

A row's combatants will fight until one of them is dead. If you want to speed along this process, or keep your own heroes alive, you can change who is facing who. To do that simply click on one of your heroes and drag the mouse to the hero you want to swap with.

There is more to fighting than moving your characters around though. As you complete waves you will find various items. You will receive one each time you complete a wave, plus occasionally you will have special events that give (or take) them. The quality of the items you receive is determined by the combined luck value of your heroes.

There are two main types of items, gear and consumables. Consumables are single use and consist of potions and scrolls. Gear is equipped to your hero and stays their until it is replaced. It will modify their stats. To use these items, simply drag them onto a hero. If you have a hero currently selected, you will see a green up arrow if it improves your stats or a red down arrow if it decreases them. If it is equipment, the old item will replace it in the stock.

IMPORTANT! The stock only holds four items. When you get a fifth, the item in the bottom box will be lost forever. Use them or lose them!

There is one other way to spice up combat. Each hero has a "special power bar" which charges when they are attacked. Once it is full you will see a circle appear under your hero.

When that happens select the hero and click on their special power. In the Paladin's case, he heals each conscious member of the party. Other heroes have very different powers!
Death and Leveling
Sooner or later one of two things will happen, a hero will die, or a hero will level.

Death is not the end! Your hero will be replaced with a placeholder and the enemy facing them will stop acting. Your hero will stay dead until you take action.

That action is easy, drag a potion from your stock to the heroes placeholder and they'll come right back! Red potions are basic healing potions, but all potions will actually heal. Other types just grant special bonus as well.

Leveling happens every three kills a hero gets. You can tell that a hero is ready to level by the up arrow next to them.

You can also force a hero to level by using a scroll on them.

When you level you will be presented with three stats to choose from. Choose one of them and don't delay! Your hero will not gain any more experience until they level. Events which grant free levels though will still level your hero.

I believe the abilities you get to choose from is random. It is also important to note that choosing health will grant you some health immediately.
Advanced Combat
Placeholder Section
Special Events

Occasionally you will experience a special event when completing a wave. When this happens you will be given two choices and you can select whichever you prefer. Not all events are good though, so sometimes you are picking the best of two evils.

In the tutorial mission you are presented with the choice to get a gift from The Gnome or to get healing from the Shrine.

Conclusion

Now you know enough to survive the first tutorial quest!

In fact you probably know more than you would learn from the tutorial itself.

Feel free to ask any questions, this guide will be updated and improved as time goes on.

Thanks for reading.
Change Log
Since this guide is under construction, and since the changes won't always be obvious, I wanted to include a change log.

6/28/15
- Added missing "Death" image.
- Small correction to leveling section.
- Fixed "scroll" image.
- Realized steam screen capture won't properly capture swapping units. I'll have to get a better screenshot outside of steam later.

I haven't figured that part out yet :wasted:
Most games have a type file which can be deleted to reset your progress.

Oh, ok, no worries. Just out of interest, how would i re-set my game? Would un-installing the game & then re-installing the game do it? Or would u look for the savegame files, & delete those?

That's ok! Don't worry about it :)
Worst case scenario I'll reset my game and play them over.
