Realize you are working with two planes
Part of the difficulty of this game is managing and handling objects, and getting them oriented correctly in order to successfully piece together furniture.

The most important concept is realizing that you are working with two planes. Once you get this in your head, you will get fairly quick at adjusting pieces. The planes are (1) vertical (z-axis) and (2) horizontal (x-axis).

When you are trying to orient a piece, first work with only one axis first. Only once you have it oriented in that direction should you move to working with the second axis. It doesn't matter which one you start with.

Protip: Let gravity work for you. I often drop pieces against a wall (you can use all four walls even though you can only see two usually). Once the piece drops, it orients nicely so you can pick up the piece and then you only need to work with one axis. This eliminates alot of frustrating work, usually.

One thing the game doesn't mention that took me a long time to figure out is the keybindings. There's no options to change them or help whatsoever, so there's no way of knowing that the arrows rotate pieces whereas WASD just moves them around. I FOR REAL DIDN'T KNOW THAT for the first few pieces of furniture and thought this game was ridiculously impossible and that everyone was just more patient than me, sliding things around and using the environment to move them.

Another good tip is to force parts into the corners of the room to help orient them, or slide things across the floor to keep the parts flush with each other.

They should have really let you customize your controlls for this game. For some reason I think it would be so much easier to hold the right mouse button then move the mouse to rotate both axes.
Then to drop an item, just click the left mouse button again. It's that simple.
