For this achievement you'll need to have a capitol county with Norse culture and Islamic religion. The best way I found to achieve this was to start a game in 867 and play as count Haestein of Nantes. Be sure to check ironman mode for the achievement. The Norse/Germanic faithfuls have the ability to declare a county claim on any coastal county, which is what we're going to use to get a foothold in Muslim lands.

Haestein starts with an army of bloodthirsty vikings, ships, and the drive to kick some berber ass.



So, before unpausing the game, declare war on Infa. It's a one county state in Mauretania, run by the heir of the Idrisid Sultanate. Call the levy's, board the ships and off you go. He'll call his dad but he's sure to be late to the fight. Once you land the Infa army will be waiting, but they are destroyed without much trouble. Siege the holdings and they're sure to surrender.




Congratulations! You are now count of Infa,and your first step in Mauretania has been set.
However, you'll probably have quite a chunk of your event army left, which you should use to further expand your viking fury into Mauretania. You should declare war on the Idrisid Sultanate, using your levy troops, your event troops and if needed hire the Irish band using your starting cash. This should be plenty to complete another county conquest. If the Umayyad sultanate had declared holy war for Tangier, take either Fes or Marrakesh. If not, I advise to take the county Tangiers. This because we want to eventually swear fealty to the Umayyads, so we need to be Neighbours. Once you have a shared border with the Umayyads, declare a subjugation war on the Canaries. Again, your vikings should make quick work of this.

At this point, swear fealty to the Umayyad Sultan. You could swear fealty to the Idrisid if you want to convert to shia islam, but the Umayyads are far more stable at this point and thus you are more protected. Now it is time to embrace Islam. Convert to Sunni islam via any concubines you picked up along the way, of via the 'convert to liege's religion' option in the decisions tab.


Also, move your capitol to the Canaries. I heard the weather is better there anyway. This means that we'll be going tribal, rendering your other levies mostly irrelevant. You'll need your liege's favor, so send your diplomat to improve relations. Now, spam some holy men and stewards, and replace your councillors with muslims. Set your steward to settle a tribe in the canaries, and use your imam to spread Sunni Islam. The final part is waiting, but your councillors will pull through in the end.

• Use your marshall to supress revolt in Nantes. You can afford to lose it at some point, but liberation revolts will have no problem marching through France and Spain to wreck your ♥♥♥♥ in Mauretania, destroying the armies you need.
  
• Have your heir Ragnarr educated by someone in the Umayyads court. Should Haestein die before you get the achievement and Ragnarr is still Pagan, your liege will revoke your titles.
  
• I kept all holdings until I converted to Islam. This ensures you have vassals of the same religion.
  
• Why stop after getting the achievement? I had loads of fun getting the Haesteinings to become caliphs!
