Summary

Alchemy is a crafting profession which allows the crafting of potions that can replenish health, magicka, stamina, make you immune to knockback and disabling effects, invisible, increase your speed and boost your damage and more. Potions with negative effects have no use at this time and are only detrimental to you.

Creating a potion requires two or three reagents with a common effect and one solvent. The solvent controls the level and potency of the potion, while the reagents decide what type of potion you create. You need at least two reagents with the same effect to discover that effect. For example, if you use Bugloss with Blue Entoloma to make a potion you’ll discover the ‘Restore Health’ effect on both reagents. Don’t worry, all reagents have four effects so the chances of having at least one common effect are pretty good.
Reagents
There are 18 types of reagents spread throughout Tamriel. You can find most reagents in every zone, they aren’t restricted to the level of any zone. Unlike solvents and materials for other crafting skills that do depend on the zone level.

You can use this graphic below to easily reveal all 4 effects for each alchemical ingredient or you can refer to the complete list of combinations at the bottom of the guide. For example: Combining an Imp Stool & Luminous Russula would discover both 'Ravage Stamina & Negative Weapon Power' for both ingredients.

Solvents
Each potion you craft requires a solvent, which is essentially a vial of water. The higher level solvent you use, the higher level the potion you produce. You’ll find higher level solvents the further you progress through your alliance. One type of solvent isn’t restricted to just one zone. Water can be collected from any of the following sources:

Water skins: little pouches that you can find almost everywhere.
Pure water: water springs that can be found in any body of water.
Bottles: can also be found almost everywhere
Containers: Boxes, Chests, Urns, Bags, ect. Almost any container.

There are 7 known solvents.
Leveling Tips
  • Focus on unlocking the four traits on all eighteen reagents, learning these effects will grant you extra experience.
  • Put skill points in ‘Solvent Proficiency’ first, allowing you to use the highest level of solvent for more experience.
  • Only use two reagents per solvent for leveling Alchemy. The difference in experience isn’t worth using a third reagent.
  • Use reagents that are easy to come by. I recommend making potions with the common Water Hyacinth.
  • Water Hyacinths are the easiest reagent to farm. Just following a river will get you plenty.
  • Whilst farming Water Hyacinths you’ll also find a lot of solvents because they share the same areas (rivers).
  • Save up Namira’s Rot, only use them for learning the effects and for VR5 potions as they are very rare.
  • Farming Pristine Water or Filtered Water might prove more difficult. If so, just skip them and use lower tier solvents.
  • Farming high tier solvents is really easy as they are spread over an entire alliance and not just 2 zones.
  • If you have some skill points left you can invest in Keen Eye if you wish. However it's not really necessary if you actually do have a 'Keen Eye'.
  • If you want to take your alchemy farming to the next level then consider trying HarvestMap[www.esoui.com] and HarvestMerge[www.esoui.com] for those who intend do a lot of farming. (not necessary for leveling)

Skills
The skills for Alchemy that you can place points in to enhance the craft include Solvent Proficiency which is the only *required* skill to make end-game potions. However there are many other skills that improve and enhance the profession.

Unlike the armor professions, there really is no ‘Best Order’ of skills to allocate in alchemy. Keen Eye is important IF you have trouble gathering, but most plants are rather obvious.

Complete list of Alchemy Combinations
Considering how extensive the list is and how much time and space it would take with Steam's limited functionality, please refer to THIS[docs.google.com] Google doc spreadsheet of all the possible combinations. This includes 2 and 3 ingredient combinations along with a list of all the best possible combinations. A provisioning spreadsheet is also present there but does not pertain to this guide and I have yet to create a provisioning guide for steam.

They say living off the land is a useless past, screw this ass-backwards society we thrive in! :trazz:

Yeah, the chart format of this guide is wonderful. It's helped me make discoveries on all eight of my character slots. (Three are bank toons, and two are faction reserves.)

Nirnroot has changed in the crit properties, and there are new items I'll have to look up elsewhere; but an update would be awesome since this is so handy when you're in game.
