Introduction
Introduction
Okay, you've seen countless gameplay videos on a funky game called Counter Strike: Global Offensive, you have just convinced your parents or just saved up enough to buy the game. You download the game and start it up, you see things you've never seen before, you load up a game of death match to get started.
Starting Up Matchmaking
How To Find A Match
So now you have got a basic knowledge of shooting and general game sense, you have decided to move it up to starting to learn basic competitive skills.

To start up a competitive match, you must:
  1. Click on the play tab
  2. You have a choice of either playing alone, in this case you would click "Find A Game". If you have friends to play with then click on the "Play with friends" tab.
  3. Now you click on the "Game Mode" tab and choose the "Competitive" tab and choose a map pool.
  4. Once you have selected the map pool you would like to play, you now click the Green "Find Match" button
  5. Once you have done that you will be put into a Que to find a match.
  6. When you have found a match a Green "Accept" Button will show up on the left side of your screen. Click it.

This directly leads into this next part
Pistol Rounds
Once everyone has accepted and you are loaded into a map that you have chosen, you will notice that you have a set warm up time of 5 minutes, this allows people with potato computers load the game. Once all player have connected the time is automatically reduced to 60 seconds. Once this time runs out the game will start.

The first round is what we call the Pistol round, You are given $800, this can buy any of the following combinations Note: These are not every single combination, just the ones you should be buying

Terrorist Side
  • Glock-18 and Kevlar Vest
  • Tec9 and Flashbang
  • Tec9 and Smoke
  • Tec9 and Explosive Grenade

Counter-Terrorist Side
  • P2000/USP-S and Kevlar Vest
  • Five-SeveN and Flashbang
  • Five-SeveN and Smoke
  • Five-SeveN and Explosive Grenade

These are the only setups you should be purchasing on the Pistol round.

Here are some other tips for the pistol rounds:

1) AIM FOR THE HEAD.
Please, oh for the love of the lord, please aim for the head. If you do not know how to aim for the head, here are some tip videos for you.

2) Saving is NOT important
Now, you may be thinking "Is this kid retarded or something?" but, saving on the pistol round is not necessary as you will be able to buy the next round if you lose anyway, and if you manage to clutch that just equals more money.

Buy Rounds/Eco Rounds
So, lets say you have been victorious in the pistol round. What you do in the net round is dependent on how many kills you got in the previous round and which weapons these kills were from. If you got no kills you would receive $3250 if you eliminated the entire team or time ran out, as a terrorist you can receive $3500 for detonating the bomb and vice versa.

So, it's the 2nd round you just won by elimination, you now have several options. If you're comfortable with sniping, you can purchase an SSG (otherwise known as The Scout) and a helmet with a few grenades of your choice.

or

You can choose to purchase a Galil (Terrorists Only) or a Famas (Counter-Terrorists Only) and a helmet.

Now, if you manage to lose this pistol round then you will earn $1400, the only thing you should purchase is a helmet, or just do a full eco (see glossary)

These are other buy round combinations ( Note: NOT INCLUDING GRENADES):
Counter-Terrorists
  • M4A1-S/M4A4, Vest and Helmet and Defuse Kit Price-$4600
  • AWP, Vest and Helmet and Defuse Kit Price-$6150
  • FAMAS, Vest and Helmet and Defuse Kit Price-$3650

Terrorists
  • AK47, Kevlar Vest and Helmet Price-$3700
  • AWP, Kevlar Vest and Helmet Price-$5750
  • GALIL, Kevlar Vest and Helmet Price-$3250
Ranking
In CSGO Matchmaking, there is an ELO based system which divides players into different skill groups depending on how they play.

I'm don't know very much about the system, if you truly do want to find out what helps you rank up, read this guide: https://steamproxy.net/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=312582297

In other notes, there are 18 achievable ranks in CSGO matchmaking, they are;
  • Silver One
  • Silver Two
  • Silver Three
  • Silver Four
  • Silver Elite
  • Silver Elite Master
______________________________________________________________________________
  • Gold Nova One
  • Gold Nova Two
  • Gold Nova Three
  • Gold Nova Master
___________________________________________________________________________
  • Master Guardian One
  • Master Guardian Two
  • Master Guardian Elite
  • Distinguished Master Guardian
____________________________________________________________________________
  • Legendary Eagle
  • Legendary Eagle Master
  • Supreme Master First Class
  • The Global Elite
____________________________________________________________________________
As you should have noticed, you will not be set into a skill group right when you start the game, you will need to win 10 Matchmaking games to be placed into a skill group - with every two wins you will also receive a 21 hour ban so the game can calibrate which rank of opponents you will be facing next. The higher the better.
Conclusion
So ive pretty much covered most areas of what you need to do excluding holding sites etc etc.

If i have genuinely missed something, let me know.

Thanks for reading
